I lost 30% potential profit, but even I had to pitch it yesterday on a stop loss. I figured if it did the dead cat bounce it would be OK, but it hit .45 pretty fast and that's it for me.

I rode it from .485 all the way to .71 ish and back to .45

Despite best intentions, you still have to put in stop loses. I don't care when a stock is making money, just let'er run! But when it's dying, you have to have some discipline.

Gotta take the good with the bad I guess!

I'm sure everyone knows this, but, say you have a 10% loss. You must re-evaluate a loser and realize the stock needs to gain 20% to break even! Sell your losers, and let your winners run!

Very good advice and that's what I do now all the time. another good tip is to move your stop loss up to your breakeven point once you have a profit so even if it does drop down afterwards you have come out at breakeven.

anyone debating HNU?

i'm thinking picking up 1/3 position here at $6.43ish and add as it goes down.
winter storm in teh US has to have some impact on next weeks inv reports...hoping for bigger than expected draw.

per that chart, as it trades close to $6 its just a waiting game before it pops.

$6.40 isn't the greatest entry but who knows what happens tmw

Fun day! After a 30% loss of 'profit's, I cashed out OPC for 50%

I would normally hold it, but I have lost faith in management. It's only short trades or flips from now on.

CRUS is crushing. And everything is basically green, even the banks!

Great day! Steady march to 15500 for sure.

maxboost; but, aren't you already short the market? :) Good work on AAA by the way! HOLD IT!! If you sell, sell enough to cover your capital costs only. But I say wait till it's a multi bagger before taking profits.

In on HND and HOD... I'm done with that hnu crap.
Good luck if you make some cash on decent draw downs with these winter storms. There has been day after day of storms to the east and nothing but mild returns.

Drilling season is super busy with so much ng soon to come on. I can't see ng going up. IMO.

gold/silver on the verge of a bullish continuation pattern if gold can sustain above 134x, momentum will be killed if below 1324

silver, suggesting 26.50 was a good base so far is paying off, if your risk taker, move your stops to zero and see how high she goes, we could potentially see 31 again if not higher.

I still however have 22 and 25 in the back of my mind as ultimate good entry shall silver enters a steep correction.

Does anyone know why oil prices aren't spiking upward?

Every news broadcast talks about oil price going up due to the turmoil on Egypt affecting flow of oil through the Suez Canal, and the possibility the turmoil will spread to other major oil producing countries in the middle east.

Yet the price is staying relatively flat. What gives?

one reason could be timing, cycle low suggest 3rd and 4th week of feb before certain sector start to take off until mid year. oil falls into one of those cycles.

Not going to bother selling it now, it might as well go down to $0.00. I have been holding it for close to a year and a half and I had my chance to get out when it was hanging around the $4.xx range and then around $1.xx.

I was thinking of contacting my broker and requesting physical share certificates to frame as my worst purchase ever. This one tops my HOD diaster of 2 years ago

I think the dip in Oil/Oil stocks was probably a correction from the news madness of the past week, people are trying to walk with their profits. Oil Inventory is massive right now.

Definitely, a good example is CNQ. Why is CNQ high flying the way it is given their horizon problems? I know it only accounts for 16% of production, but I would have expected more of a market reaction. Hello? Your fucking coker exploded into a ball of flame.

Disclosure: I got tooled on CNQ when the planet exploded, and panic sold 5% down only to see it rise up a fair bit in the last bit.

So tempted to jump into HNU now after todays loss but worried it's only going to drop further down. Will we see a all time low soon??

SilverRex
02-08-2011, 07:55 AM
hnu or NG has taken out a key support of 4.27 as well as 5.83 on UNG, short term continues to look weak, Expect a new trend to emerge only if it can re-close above those area, as I said before we are expecting oil to hit a cycle low sometime 3rd week or 4th week of February, it could very well drag NG down and both may not beginning a new rise until late feb or into march. Thats where I will place my bet in the energy sector for the next few months after.

gold/silver is performing perfectly, after calling a bottom at 26.50, the expectation that it will at least revisit 31 is nearly complete. however we could run into a wall with next key resistance for gold to be at 136x, closing above 1370 would give us further fuel to rise in metals, a close below 1345 would begging to look weak once again

for TSX I feel a correction is needed, based on wave count if we have a 5 wave leading us from 74xx to 138xx, it would be a very good entry/correction to see price test between 11179 and 12321 so crossing my fingers and see if we will see those numbers

There are two stories that can play out with PPI/EPO, both based on low gas prices and high corn/potash prices. If demand from china wakes up we're off to $1000/tonne levels of mid 2008.

Story #1: The big co's with excess cash from huge sales go on a buying spree after the junior take all the risk of establishing reserves. At these prices, those reserves will come at a premium.

Story #2: At these prices, nevermind increasing demand from china, it would be economic for five of us to grab some shovels and start digging for this shit. It will take five years for these companies to reach production, provided pricing remains strong it will be feasible.

Either way, the reserve reports that these two companies are about to publish will possible be the most major catalyst in the stock's lifecycle. Market is certainly treating it that way at least.

Kicking myself for not getting in PPI at $0.28 back in early january when I first saw it.

What's up with EPO?? And which would be safer to get into PPI at this point?

Niether is particularly safe until reserve reports are published and the underlying value of these companies are established. Until then I would consider both highly speculative with the potential to lose everything.

That being said, the upside on both is huge right now given the current market conditions. I'm holding out until those reserve reports are public, and will likely unload before the holding periods on private placements/bought deals expire in april/june.

AAA is ridiculous.

Bought back in and up 10% again. What's tomorrow going to bring? :nut:

maxboost; Today is a perfect example of what I was talking about HIX. The TSX is down .8% and S&P down a bit, but HIX is also down?

Is there a better TSX inverse?

HIX is up.

HIX +0.07 at $10.36 (+.68%)

It's the only TSX60 single inverse I know of.

Or if you want to leverage, HXD. I've been caught going the wrong way a few times so I just prefer the non leverage ones.

How tight do you guys set your stops on these volatile juniors? After today's shit show I want to put some limits on some things, was thinking 5% to give room for some volatility.

Does the prices of potash fundamentally change the value of companies that aren't producing any revenue yet?

I can see the likes of IPI and POT getting big boosts. How come nobody is buying them instead?

Cheers

AAA gets fat fingered

There was apparently a fat finger trade on AAA today that momentarily sent the shares down to $1.30. All trades done below $1.76 and before 11:31 were apparently cancelled. I think reaction in the immediate aftermath was investors taking an opportunity to take profits on uncertainty. I have seen no other news, but will keep you updated if I do.

Got this from my broker. Man I had the buy screen up on 10k at $1.75. Then is jumped to $1.78 and decided I wasn't prepared to lose so bailed.

Glad I missed out. Lol
I'm prob the worse trader on this board.

Should have went for Agrium instead as they killed it.

Did you set your stop last night before open? Or did you throw it in this morning. Surprised you set it so close, or were you ready to take profit?

I heard there was a rumor that was going around that Ethiopia was going to take AAA's property. Pretty sure those trades wont get reversed. Can someone please confirm?

Press release for the trades in question.

ORONTO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 02/09/11 -- Allana Potash Corp. (TSX VENTURE:AAA) ("Allana" or "the Company"), announces that the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada ("IIROC"), the regulation services provider of the TSX Venture Exchange, has ruled that all trades in the common shares of Allana that took place between 11:26:27 a.m. and 11:31:50 a.m. on February 9, 2011 at prices below CAD $1.76 per share will be re-priced to CAD $1.76 per share. The ruling is being made by IIROC on the basis that the trades were unreasonable.

When I'm up on a stock I always move my stops up to lock in profit. I set it and change it throughout the day lol it's very emotional when it comes to taking profits. $2.20 isn't that close as the day high was $2.43 when it opened.

The thing with the venture stocks, hope for the best but prepare for the worst lol

I'm in this too... doesn't seem as volitile as hnd, but it'll interesting to see what happens with Egypt's President to step down tonight and reading OPEC raising oil output because of the $100 oil.
