Have you missed all the purchase / buy out talk?
I heard something this morning that CIBC thinks it's worth $20...

Hmmm I've seen $14-15 estimates, $20 sounds a bit high to me, but what do I know.
Anything over $16 and I'll be pretty happy.

First big jump was rumors of BlackBerry considering going Private.
Second big jump was BlackBerry forming a special committee and openly saying they are open to doing anything..Joint Venture, Merge, Sale, Give to me
Third big jump is today which is speculation that Fairfax wants to find partners to take it Private.

yep, still waiting though. no stop losses for me because it's really easy for small caps like these to be manipulated if it is another vague NR (I think that's what happened a few weeks ago when it crashed down to 2.5c).
I have been reading that it should easily make it up to about $1.00 if it ends up being a 2000 barrel/day well. I have high hopes with my 45k shares! I would probably pick up another 20k if I had some extra money right now too.

For the first time in about 40 years, the Rupee looks like it might be worth getting. The Rupee being on a constant devaluation for my entire lifetime.
INRUSD, Either the Rupee is going die a painful death (very possible) or its going to have to recover soon (and by soon, I mean within the year)
I can imagine that if this trend continues, the normally peaceful India-ns will be like Egypt.

You still hanging on to this? Results looked decent. Should be better next Q once the wells are tied in. It was nice to see that there was a confirmation of negotiations still going on regarding a sale. I'm going to wait this one out even though I'm tempted to sell a bit.

Results were actually not so hot. Miss on consensus production and cash flow. The only positive is that they've confirmed exclusive negotiations, which is probably the sole reason as to why the stock is up. I personally would hold onto it as well though - someone needs to scoop it up.

Also, Yanchang is currently halted on the hong kong stock exchange. if you use chrome (for translation), go to the hong kong economic times and look at the news feed... says someone leaked insider info so that's why it's halted.
EDIT: this link should work http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?depth=1&hl=en&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dhong%2Bkong%2Beconomic%2Btimes%26safe%3Doff&rurl=translate.google.ca&sl=zh-TW&u=http://www.hket.com/eti/inews/content/105327&usg=ALkJrhh-gNlNLzj2Vllc3QvZUzF98rnezg

I don't think many people did.
You would have had to buy in a very short time frame to make money on that, like between April 2012 and yesterday or during the 90's. Even then, having the stomach to hold it as it dropped to reeeaallly low levels.
So, if you did make bank on it... Then you should be jumping for joy even more than you already are. I couldn't have done it.

It won't close till end of December as per press release. Why bother holding it? Buy on speculation, sell on news. If it gets to $1.15 tomorrow, I'm out. Very disappointing deal. Company has been nothing but a value trap for years despite pretty decent assets, and can't even get sold for 1P value.

I'm disappointed as I held a decent position at an average cost below $.80 for quite a while in my TFSA and eventually had to get rid of it at a slight loss since I was going non-resident. Would have been a nice ~50% tax free gain if I'd been able to hold!

Lockup expired. Bunch of employees cashing in. I sold before I went on vacation in case there was some correction after the initial jump.
The company should be trading around where it is ($33-$34). If they come out with any good supply chain news, expect another jump.

Presentation yesterday might have something to do with it.
Quick Sum:
1) dividend absolutely sustainable within cash flow
2) happy not to benefit immediately from wti being up, prefering security of hedging and expecting gradual differential improvements with Keystone XL, rail, etc.
3) Interesting discussion of how small improvements in recovery rates can strongly leverage the value of what's under the land package
4) Simple horizontal drilling is improving recovery factors, with little technical risk
5) Initial results at Wildmere appear solid
Edit:
13 cents holy crap.

i read on that presentation yesterday, though it could have had something to do with it, not sure if it caused that sudden spike
i thought maybe there was some acquisition or take over news
either way, i got out of it, for a small gain, after the last huge dip to 1.6 ish,
just glad to be out

My portfolio is very different. I invest everything myself, so I don't take as much risk as some of the above. Learned the hard way how easy losing money is. Why I own a lot of positions, mostly I'm in big ETFs. Here's a breakdown:
CORE (this is about 70% of my holdings):
XIC - big position
CWW - global water ETF. Pricy but long term I think this might be great.
XBB
CHB
BMO
BNS
CIBC
TD
VWO.US - big position
VTI. US - by FAR my biggest position
PLAY:
AGNC.US - bad start, I know
NVS - I've day traded this one since Jan, waiting for it to get closer to $1.18 to sell.
SPP
TCAP.US
EDV - my worst investment of all time
S - up there for terrible investments
TBE - like everyone else it seems
WY.US
Investment portfolio I have with a friend. The last year has been EPIC:
MG
ARLP.US
JPM.US
CFN
MFC
NIF.UN
Overall I'm in the money on all but 7 of these. I think I will make my money back over time on all these except EDV and possibly S.

I've never really followed BB but I seem to recall hearing of valuations in the $3-4 billion range if you're just talking about their business minus cash. That was a while ago. Given the lack of interested in buying the company as a whole, and with all the money pissed away on BB10 and this $1 billion loss hanging over their heads, I'd imagine they'll break it all up for $2-3 billion and if they stop bleeding their nearly $3 billion in cash that puts you in the $8-10 range.
Very general, uneducated guess though. I'm sure if you do a bit of research you'll find some analyst valuations with better numbers put to it.
My thought is that there may be a bit of money to be made here but it's probably not worth the risk. Now that they've been up for sale and no one has expressed interest in the company as a whole, my guess is a PE firm gets with a pension plan, buys them out, breaks the company up, and profits from the sell off. Arguably, this should have been done a long time ago.
Problem with the Management / Board is that they're emotionally tied to BB as a company. BBs failure is their failure and it's not easy to just can the entire work force and begin selling off patent portfolios.

Just read on CNBC that one analyst thinks the IP is worth $5-6 billion. With the $2-3 cash that gives the company a market cap in the $7-9 billion range or $13-17.
That's decent upside...question is if you believe the IP is worth $5-6 billion. My thought is that it isn't, but I'm not a tech guy so there are probably better opinions to be sought.

I don't invest in phone companies at all (except whatever ETFs hold), but it seems they come and go like fads. If you have a good product, you're it for now. I just got a new BB10 from work, and it's pretty clear to see it's not as good as the Samsung competition. BB hasn't made a good product in 5 years, which in this space makes them uninvestable for me.

The potential of this well is quite high so i think its not a bad deal at 15 or 16. There is still some risk but the upside IMO is much better than the downsides.
I wont be adding more because i have a substantial amount in the stock already but I am planning on a long hold. I have already doubled my money but dont plan on selling if that tells you how I feel about the stock.

NFK is an onshore prospect.

True that haha. What kind of upside are people calling for? Wouldn't mind getting in even if it's just a good 20-30% upside, but .23 could be full value...

I jumped in at .17 a few days ago after missing the initial hint on beyond. Still making some money, just not a ton. No idea where it is going from here (~.22). Probably just take the money I have made and run.

i think its still going up from here, they havent even got any oil out of the ground yet. The stock price jumped on the test results...
If the well has oil, as people are speculating, it could easily hit 50cents to 1 dollar potentially higher. The surrounding wells of other companies have done extremely well and NFK still has more wells to drill.

Well, threw $400 in at 0.245. Not as good as the rest of you but screw it, I've spent more on less. Now we wait...

Big upside potential still... Remember they haven't even completed the well yet. I have 100k shares at an avg price of 8c and I'm holding it all until we get some concrete production (or non-production) indication.
I've seen some math saying that it should be around $1 share price if it does 2000 barrels a day, and that's not even factoring in future development of the field (remember this is the smallest of 4 targets).

worst case is you lose a couple hundred dollars, worth the risk in my opinion.
I went a little crazy and bought a lot more shares when it was at 18 cents. I think i am going to trim those back this week and then just hold my core for the long run. heres hoping it goes to 1 dollar!

Nice to see you've made a large paper profit. If you haven't already I'd suggest you sell enough shares to cover your original investment at least.

I sold out my initial investment today at $0.23. Planning on holding the rest until they release BHN-1 test results. I still think there is some significant risk on this one and am surprised it went up over 200% on the latest news release without testing. But let's hope this run continues, it's been a fun few days.

I've been thinking about it, but I keep changing my mind last minute when I see the price has gone up. It's nice to have an even number of 100k shares... Every penny increase means an extra 1k paper profit :bigpimp:
Guess ill try a sell order for .25 and see it fills

That's what I kept doing, but I sold the shares I bought on Friday to cover ~half of my initial investment.
I'm debating if I want to buy if back if goes down a bit more before close though haha...

that was my plan too but with the insane volume and increases I keep getting tempted to buy MORE!
think i will sell 20% of my shares some point this week, hopefully it goes to around 30 cents. risky game, I would be more angry selling early though than losing a couple thousand....

Anyone in on both NFK and DXE?
I'm not in on DXE. And it hasn't jumped as hard. Too late to get in on that?

I think LEG is a nice hold if you aren't able to flip it for a short-term gain. Awesome chart this morning.

Of course I'd get in at the peak. Paper portfolio's up over 20% since April, but as soon as I actually buy something it flatlines (or in this case drops) :thumbsdow
Oh well, the plan's to sit on this at least until some news comes out on well's #2 & 3.

Meh, no need to worry about the daily swings unless you're day trading... i'm in it til they release some concrete news in about 4-5 weeks.
But i am glad i took roopi's advice yesterday and sold 20k shares at .245... about 2500 away from making back all of my initial investment. Will be freerolling soon :)
