Always nice to have free shares and nothing to worry about. Of course you won't make as much when it ticks up but you'll also never lose as much (or your original investment).

Wait a day, sometimes it's late. With my brokerage, American dividends can take 4-5 days after the payment date to arrive. Canadian usually immediately, but yours might be different. If you don't see it in a day or two, call your broker as you should've gotten it.

If it pulls down far enough Ill get in. Still quite a bit of risk to this play. Seem it enough times where juniors talk good stuff but when it comes to commercial viability its not there.

Kind of weird why they would do a financing now and now a month from now when potential price could be much higher (less dillution).

totally, takes a lot of willpower to make a plan and stick with it. depending what happens today/tomorrow I think i will unload enough shares to cover my costs and just let the profits ride. as you said still very risky, the huge upside for me is though is enuogh to risk the profits that i have already made.

NFK just doing some smart business and they are not the operator here,

DXE are the operator and are probably sending AFE's and cash calls for their share of the completion and production facilities as we speak. DXE has the benefit of production revenue coming in every month and so the delays help them build cash. NFK do not have that luxury and still have to keep the lights on..hence they took advantage of the hype and did a "bridge Financing"

Thanks

15-30% gain in 3 months on a $1k investment, yes that would be nice.

Anything even remotely safe probably won't bring that sort of return in that period of time, and anything that will is going to carry a fair amount of risk. My take anyways.

I agree if you are expecting to make a quick buck then expect to be burnt because you are going to carry a lot of risk if you want to make that kind of return. So to answer your question you are going to have to bet on more volatile and risky stocks as most stable companies don't return 15-30% in 4 months. That's the general case anyways.

If you could make that much consistantly, you'd be a multi millionaire in a couple years. Notice most people aren't.

Honestly $1000 is not enough to invest into anything "safe" or "proven." You could gamble it on some penny stock, but honestly I'd just sit in cash if I were you.

As others are saying, it can be done, but you have to play the high risk stocks and hope for the best.

Look at something like Questrade for cheaper trades, but still, you are going to be paying to buy and sell the stock, so your actual gains would have to be higher for you to make what you want.

I have done what you want to do in 2 stocks recently, NFK as suggested here (very risky though) and UBNT (pretty much topped out right now I think).

The plays are out there, but you have to be smart about it. My first experience with stocks cost me 25% of what I invested. I learnt from that experience, and do things differently now.

Agreed.

I don't mind playing with some riskier plays from time to time because I have some safer plays in my portfolio to offset that risk.

Just throwing a Grand at some penny stock in an effort to make a few hundred bucks in a few months is a great way to loose a thousand bucks!

I posted this back in July/August but...

NCI - NTG Clarity Networks Inc (I posted on beyond when it was $0.48 and now its still at $0.48 (I bought in at $0.29))
DAP.U - XPEL Technologies Corp (I posted on beyond when it was $0.86 and now its at $1.31 (I bought in at $0.75))
ZMS - Zecotek Photonics Inc (I posted on beyond when it was $0.57 and now its at $0.90 (I bought in at $0.49)) <-- this one is my fav

I started trading Venture stocks 5 months ago with $10,000 and am now sitting on $24,000. All it takes is research and time to find the gems.

Been long on NFK since April and net cost base is 0.125. I've seen a few guys here are riding the hype right now, too. What are some your guys' thoughts on the PP deal and DXE's Friday NR?

sabad66
11-04-2013, 10:38 AM
I think the PPs are positive. The total funds aren't quite enough to drill new wells (I think these wells are around 8 mill to drill), so I'm assuming this financing is purely for expected operating/overhead costs until they can get the oil to market.

Also, I'm sure canaccord and the other IBs did their homework before pulling the trigger so that gives me a little more confidence. Perhaps even got a chance to look at the well/seismic data.

That's a really nice return. Nice job. Don't forget to take some profits tho... You never know what might happen. Could go down just as fast as it went up.

I was watching zms for a while too, but had all my funds tied up so I couldn't get in until .80. I think it still has a decent upside even where it is now. Any idea when we will find out about the lawsuit?

NFK up 12% as of right now. I sold off a bunch today to get my money back. Rest of my shares are all gravy. If it hits big this week, great, if it falls horribly, my initial investment is safe.

Thanks sabad66. You're absolutely right about taking money out but the trick is to take out at the right time lol. I remember selling my shares in MCR that I bought back in August 2012 in at $0.65 and sold at $2.00... I should have sold portions and kept some more as it is now sitting pretty at $6.97.

ZMS is where i've put most of my earnings... as for a time frame this is what the latest court docket says about the patent dispute:

Date # Docket Text 10/29/2013 139 Order: Pursuant to the agreement of counsel, a telephonic conference upon plaintiffs' discovery dispute is scheduled before Magistrate Judge George J. Limbert on 11/8/13 at 10:30 a.m.; the Court shall set up the conference call to counsel; the parties are to file their two-page summaries of the discovery dispute within 7 days of this order (Related document 136 ). Signed by Magistrate Judge George J. Limbert on 10/29/13. (S,AA) (Entered: 10/29/2013)

Basically November 8th 2013 1030am is the date for this discovery dispute but I think the more realistic timeframe is probably End of Month.

Aside from the $200mill lawsuit, there are also huge orders up ahead as CERN is being upgraded in 2014 as well as the new Japanese Collider that is being built by their partner.

BTW: DAP.U is up 17% today!!

I am not playing with that much money. Still new to the stock market game. But a gain is a gain. Little here, little there and one day I will be able to throw the money around like the rest of the ballers here.

Mr. Heins followed the old saying "fake it till you make it" and walked away with (an estimated) 22 mill for it.

New CEO will probably do much of the same.

Heins came from BlackBerry with the same belief as old management. It was a poor decision from the start. They needed a CEO who does not have the BlackBerry mentality and that's exactly what they are finally doing.

Mr.Chen doesn't get to be on the board of Disney and Wells Fargo because he is a nobody. Heins was always a nobody.

Who knows what happens, but it can't get much worse than now. I will assume his pay is going to be directly related to performance.

"Chen developed and led Sybase’s re-invention strategy to evolve what had become a mature slower growth technology company into a $1B+ high-growth innovator. First, Mr. Chen returned Sybase to profitability and improved its balance sheet. He then defined and implemented Sybase’s “Unwired Enterprise” strategy to reposition the company, leveraging its database knowledge to create new offerings that addressed the emerging markets for analytics and mobility.

Under Chen’s leadership, Sybase achieved strong financial performance and shareholder returns, including 55 consecutive quarters of profitability, $2.8 billion of cash generated, and a 28 percent compound annual growth rate of its market capitalization from a low of $362 million to $5.8 billion in 2010, when it was acquired by SAP AG."

Jwall has been pretty mum as of late. He used to be very active back in April/May when this play caught my ear. Should be an exciting couple weeks coming up. His explanation makes sense, but as someone who's working in accounting/finance, you can't help but worry if they're preparing for bad news. In for a penny, in for a pound. Volume is out of control this morning so far.

We don't know what DXE is going to be yet. No NR yet on production potentials yet. SP is starting to get skittish today for both NFK and DXE and bullboards are starting to sound a bit bearish right now too.

Most energy companies are down today. Something Macro, although not sure exactly what.

Not a short-term trade, but my precious DVN is killing me this week.

I'm trying to figure this out too, it's killing me today. Teach me for not diversifying as much as I knew I should I guess :P

They announced their 5 year plan which includes a production forecast down to 105,000 boe/d for next year (not including an additional $1B - $1.5B divestiture). The company (and cash flow) is shrinking... a lot.

The street was probably looking for something profound from the "strategic alternatives" review that started when they switch out their board in June.

Any speculation as to how low it will go? Might be a good time to scoop some up?

PWT is at the lowest it's been in like 5 years (pretty much), gonna have to actually read some MD&A haha.

I wonder too if maybe they'll become a buy out target especially if they're CF is tanking and they're divesting some.

Well from what I can find, ECB cut rates -> Brent fell -> WTI fell -> bad outlook for raw materials, especially dollar denominated producers. Boo.

1) Production on lower end of target
2) No growth planned till 2015, in fact next year they plan to shrink (excluding divestitures).
3) Planning 1.5 - 2B in dispositions. They'll be ~80-85Mboe/d afterwards. Same dividend they are paying today, 40% less production.
4) They plan to have a sustainability ratio of 110% of (capital + dispositions)/funds flow. What happens if oil prices drop?
5) I predict some big reserve write downs come next year Q1.

Basically, I think the market hates their long term plan and are ignoring the slight "beat" on income this quarter.

Maybe in 2015. Right now their debt load makes them the fattie you don't wanna take to the dance.

Small update on NFK, explains why they wanted that money

http://www.marketwired.com/press-release/africa-hydrocarbons-announces-initiation-completion-operation-bhn-1-well-tunisia-tsx-venture-nfk-1851384.htm

CALGARY, ALBERTA, Nov 12, 2013 (Marketwired via COMTEX) -- Africa Hydrocarbons Inc. CA:NFK +1.92% ("AHI" or the "Company") today issued the following news and operational update regarding its BHN-1 exploration well on the Bouhajla Permit in northeastern Tunisia where the Company has a 47.5% working interest.

Preparations at the BHN-1 well site are now finished to allow for continuation of the completion and testing program expected to begin within a week. Completion equipment is now being mobilized. The completion program has been expanded to include one additional interpreted fracture interval. Two six meter intervals and one three meter interval over interpreted fracture zones within the logged Abiod reservoir section will be perforated for possible flow and testing analysis.

These operations are expected to take approximately ten days. Results will be press released once relevant flow and pressure data have been collected and interpreted.

"We are pleased to have recently completed a financing that will cover our near term commitments and also enable us to expand our completion and testing program. The 3D seismic, drilling data and log data interpretations have provided some encouraging observations that de-risk certain aspects of the exploration process that we will evaluate further following the completion and testing operation. The next steps will hopefully provide insights on the extent and quality of the fracture network in the vicinity of the wellbore and provide additional data to understand the hydrocarbon potential of this prospect and other prospects on the remainder of our 536 square kilometer block," states John Nelson, CEO of Africa Hydrocarbons.

I read that NR as positive, so i was wondering why there wasn't much movement yesterday. Guess the market was a day late to react to that just like last time.

I picked up some DXE at .29 on Friday since it was so cheap. 10 more days to get your shares folks :D

Just looking at the Google charts. Shows a 500K volume move this morning when it hit .30.

Hoping some of the more experienced traders can chime in with their thoughts.

Those banks are crazy, at least one of the latest transactions was TD selling 18,000 shares to itself lol

If what you say about anonymous possibly being insiders, there could have been some inside buying there which is always a good sign

it's not the bank per se, it is one guy who trades via TD selling and a match on the other side just happens to be another person who trades via TD, At least that's my understanding.

sabad66
11-14-2013, 11:42 PM
It's just the brokerage name. Most likely it's one retail guy that happens to use TD selling to another retail guy that also happens to use TD. As far as I know there is no way to tell for sure if it is a retail investor or a banker.

Not sure why anyone would want to do this, but my broker (questrade) has an option when submitting orders to make it show up as ANON.

Overall it's just not worth reading into the broker names too much. L2 quotes are interesting though.

Thanks for all the info. Talking around with people I know, and based on other companies drilling in the area in the last couple years, I believe NFK has about a 25-30% chance of hitting something on this property. The odds are not in their favor, but if they do hit, it will be good $$.

This is just my opinion.

Started buying LXV on Friday. They have a product launch coming up on Dec 1 for Mobio. They call themselves a 'Technology Accelerator/Incubator'. Mobio looks interesting I'm more here for a few trades up until the launch. It's had a great week and I think there will be some more left in this still.

From what I recall they hadn't started completions yet even on Friday, or were just getting to it finally...so if that's true wouldn't it realistically be too early for people to draw those conclusions already? Going completely from a drunken memory here so could be completely wrong too

7 trading days until launch. Flipped this a few times but still holding on to some shares. In the past month this stock has went from .145 to .61. Really wish I would have seen it sooner. Not sure if I'll hold any shares past Nov. 29th but we'll see now the next week plays out.

Since Friday:

11/20/2013 3,757,710 0.135 - +28.42%
11/19/2013 2,376,919 0.01 - +2.15%
11/18/2013 5,299,693 0.035 - +8.14%
11/15/2013 2,877,100 0.08 - +22.86%

Ive had my eyes on LXV for a few days now. Every time I put in a buy order I can't get it filled and every day I'm kicking myself. Quite a run its had. Congrats to you though.

Every time I go chasing a venture stock it kicks my ass. Really trying to be smart about this one.

Up another 16% today. I'd like to get in, but that many big +'s in a row always scare the piss out of me. This will probably be another one of these plays that I pass on only to see it go to $2+ in the next 6 months :banghead:

I think this is the best breakdown I have found:

"NR 12th plus 7 (week) = 19 plus 10 = 29 plus interpretation = New Month (DECEMBER)

OH GOD IT IS THE 22nd NO NEWS - the sky is falling sell sell sell"

If you are reading it differently, can you explain how you are seeing it?

I think people are trying to get out now to protect any profits they have because they are worried, but I also think that holding it for another week or 2 could really pay off. I am hoping to capitalize on the frenzy today and get another buy order in.

That's a fair enough assumption, I have zero factual evidence to this, just figure completions are in progress so people in the know may be getting disappointed. Pure speculation on my part of course.

Either way, I'm only in for a small piece so will sit on this for the foreseeable future anyway.
