Picked up some RRX, going to hold it until April....

Spartan is killing me, continues to dive despite fantastic drilling results and production numbers.... Not sure if i should double down to bring my average down, or just wait until winter and see if it turns into an upswing...

Yeah, i got in this morning at 8.55.... and ten minutes later it preceded to drop to 8.26 :banghead: :guns:

oh well, i just keep telling myself pennies on the dollar in the long run,,, might just forget about everything until the new year and get out right before breakup

the other one i am watching is CFW... taken a massive dive lately, who knows where the bottom is.

weird thing is they did a stock split in may to ~18.50 and are down below that, even though they peaked at 20-21

Bought some TOG Jan 2015 $13.00 Calls last week.... Bit of an oooops so far.

I would expect CFW to post up some good Q3 numbers, maybe try to enter a position over the next couple weeks.

My portfolio in a nutshell - everythings at wicked good entry points right now, but my capitals all in it about 30% above current prices :banghead:

Did buy a bunch of November calls on TCW though. Same idea as CFW - pretty sure the frackers are going to have a better than expected quarter, and don't see their stock going much lower than it is now.

What does everyone think of picking up some IONA energy?

They got hammered HARD last week because of some setbacks they had at their huntington field.

I think they've got a solid management team and can dig themselves out of this hole, it looked like a great buying opportunity to get in right after the news (as low as 12 cents) but now I still feel like this could be a good (yes risky) play.

Thoughts :dunno:

IMO i wouldn't bet on people correcting operational issues. Usually whatever gets press released is10% of the story and things are FAR more dire than you realize.

Disposition is the only solution.

Was looking a little optimistic this morning, had a couple stocks in the green (+5-8%), but those dreams were quickly shattered.

Going to dry to average down on some other stocks..

Anyone else worried that this might be the beginning of another "2007"?

I think investor fear is making people act like it is because everyone is weary but I don't it's the same.

Oil supply is always a story every year it just seems to be hard hitting this year.

Sept/Oct/Nov are always slow for O&G and then driving season hits and everyone is in panic mode again.

Absolutely esspecially when the trading is for no god damned reason. Comodities? Comodities go up. Always.

Unless they discover a 10 darcy oil reservoir across the entirety of the united states this is a fact. Just a matter of time. Best part is alot of these stocks pay dividends in the meantime...

You don't think the end of QE has anything to do with it? My personal feel is that I will be able to pick up stuff cheaper next month, so I'm not buying anything. In fact I dumped one position last week and am contemplating dumping some Canadian banks which gave me a sweet profit already.

Picked up some BTE at 42.15 last week but with the instability i'm holding on to average down next week.

Oil is going lower because people want it to go lower. Then people will get bored of the oil game and itll go back to $95 a bbl.

It's hard not to buy anything. Everything is look very good.

I'm contemplating selling everything and let oil tumble further before buying back in. There is no support for WTI/Brent and they are breaking every technical downtrend signal.

May as well take opportunity in the sell off instead of sucking it up.

If you don't want to follow individual companies you can buy into energy index funds etc.

Aside from that research the big players in the sector and invest in all of them. Identify players you think are undervalued and invest more in them. Its justa game and its you versus the rest of the world. Also don't expect everything to be a quick buck, some value can take years to materialize.

Then diversify away from the sector at least a bit by holding other industrials etc.

But i will never invest in a tech company or internet player who's assets are just "patents" and brands which are continuously being invalidated by courts anyways.

I know alot of poeple have become rich off the .com boom i don't care. I refuse to invest in something where my money can turn into literally nothing.

For an oil company at least they have reserves value and infrastructure...

But don't just listen to me do you own due diligence on investing.

Arguably if you are looking at Tangible assets, Midstream took a pretty nice wack today for those looking at the big guns like Keyera, Pembina, Altagas, Veresen etc.

Those are nice places to be since they just get paid to move the stuff out of the ground and process it. Doesn't matter what Oil and Gas Prices are as long as people are producing it hah.

TBE at 14%. I mean a lot of these companies were at a healthy 5-7% yield recently, it is just a matter of prices being ridiculous. These are all going to be 5 year olds in which your average cost is at a 10% yield of a bunch of capital losses.

I'm going to argue for the former but let's hope it's not the latter.

I mean new management dumped 4 million into the company at $1.80 two months ago and they have convertible debentures at $3.15 exercise for 5 years i think it was.

I hold quite a bit of TBE of which i've bought a ton more at these super low prices. I've got a lot of heavy oil exposure at the moment so hoping for the best.

I've also heard the PWT executives that moved over there were good heavy oil guys so banking on a turnaround.

Still not buying anything... My prediction is more pain to come, so I'm not buying a single thing till end of the month. Standing by my thesis that the end of QE is to blame for this setback. As well, people doing capital loss selling are gonna keep all these stocks low till year end.

Not sure why you guys are chasing stuff like TBE or LRE or even RE when far better stuff like WCP is on sale. I mean I like some of those (especially RE), but their Viking assets (aka most of the upside here) are crap compared to WCP. When Teine goes public, that'll be a great one assuming it's priced fairly. As for Penn West #2, aka LRE, I'm not sure what the appetite here is. Then again WTF do I know; I bought MVN at closer to $0.70...

I had quite a few dealings with both Wollman and Middleton at Penn West. Both top notch, technically sound guys. Big difference from some of the other sleeze bags that used to make up (and in at least two cases still do) Penn West upper management IMO.

WCP is still 15% up from last year. There are much better buys out there right now...much much better. WCP won't lose you money but more profits to be had elsewhere. TOU, ATH, LEG, HLX, APA to name a few that shoukd see a good rally.

Yup, I'm thinking I'll come back after Christmas maybe. This isn't limited to just oil, everythings getting pummeled these days and somehow this just feels a bit more serious than a simple correction. I might not time the bottom, but I'll get back in when things have shown that they're good and stable. For now might just throw my cash at the student loans :P

For sure, there are lots of other great names out there. I was just saying that the specific ones picked previously were probably not better. Of your list, I'd be happy to own the majority of them down the line (ATH would scare me though).

Not surprising. The company's probably worth significantly under $100/share, but I am way too chicken shit to risk shorting.

Personally, I've been buying and holding every chance I have. I don't really care that much if things continue to fall. I feel that just about all of my holdings are an absolute bargain now, and if the prices continue to go down than great, people can get them at a even more discounted rate. In 6 months I think this is just going to look like a blip on the radar.

I think anything you buy today you can get cheaper next month. Certainly doesn't mean I'm selling everything (or anything this week), but I am heavily cash weighted and have been for some time.

im not fully invested yet... but you got to be in it to win it, right?

once i can clear out a couple option contracts im just not touching anything for at least a month. then see where shit is. average down my current holdings if needed and see whats on sale then

That was a long and drawn out death. Thank god it's over now. Will hang in to see if bounces back up a little bit before dumping.

Plugging and abandoning the well - it was a dud. They still have other assets over there I believe and claim that this one being dry doesn't imply anything about the other, but the writing is on the wall...
