I don't know why it is taking such a big hit, one of the lowest cost producers on the market and balance sheet or more than capable. There was a case from TD I believe that justified a 5% dividend at currents rates and current oil prices.

Works for me though because I am averaging down on my $9 purchases hah.

Guess i'm not hedging with my spare capital anymore.

I wouldn't hold your breath...all signs point to a significant drop tomorrow afternoon (IMO of course) than a spike after the initial panic. Like I said earlier, sold anything energy yesterday and ready to buy heavily into the market Friday morning and hopefully see a quick 5% gain.

RRX, TOU, CNQ, SGY, TOG, YGR, LEG...lot's of others as well should see a quick turnaround.

Really the drop is already priced into the stocks at this point, and the some; as usually people panic a little bit before these types of announcements... unless the news is significantly worse than expected, the stocks will correct and cause a sudden rally tomorrow morning. I wouldn't be surprised if a few people catch on and you see a little recovery at the end of today.

I don't think it will last long... in fact I expect to see it taper off by the afternoon and maybe even start to drop as soon as Monday. It just depends how emotional the market gets over this.

Haha, I would like to see an above average investors portfolio over the last year if I'm called an average joe ;)

So you are saying you expect a rally through to Friday and a drop on Monday? I think we will see a drop through to Friday and a rally starting Monday, depending on how bad OPEC's announcement is taken. It's all a guessing game, we could both be wrong?

The big banks have already priced OPEC's uncertainty into stocks from Monday through to today but that doesn't mean people won't panic when they hear the news. Fear is the strongest emotion! I have buys out for 3%-4% under current prices as I really do believe tomorrow will be a bad day.

Ouch, oil down ~1.5% already today. Does anyone know when we will hear about the results from the OPEC meeting? The meeting notes say the press conference is at 16:00, I am guessing that is Austria time, so are the results coming in this morning?

EDIT: Just read a press announcement from them. Looks like they are not cutting production, I didn't see them specifically mention it in the article I read though. I suck at interpreting this stuff.

I think a lot of people may have lost their shirts with this drop. If you don't see a stock jump by mid next week we are in for another recession. This dip was way worse than I imagined, I was thinking 5%ish range across the board but I picked up RRX, CNQ, CPG & TOU again today. Might pick up some Torc later on but I like the "bluechip" oil and gas companies in times like these so I'll just gamble on RRX. Might throw more money in tomorrow but seeing what this afternoon and close brings first.

No WCP?

So why CPG, as they are a Bakken player and if prices continue to fall the Bakken is not the best play to be drilling out of. I'm in BTE so i'm obviously in no better position but just wanted to see your stance.

I really don't like WCP. All of WCP's fundamentals point to it be extremely overpriced. CPG has been a company that was able to recover well through the last recession, are doing value add deals and have great management. Some of their fundamentals are out of wack, but they always have been. I can't say I feel the same about BTE.

Just 1 play? What is it?

I got my dad to buy big into a biotech ETF which mostly holds small and micro cap biotech's. He loves it, such a resilient position and relatively uncorrelated with the market.

Only reason I don't own any is because its not capital efficient for how much $ I have.

I threw up a little in my mouth. Having said that, I have $10 January calls on them that I bought a week before the accounting scandal. :( I worked there for some time and learned that just when you think it can't get worse, it ALWAYS does.

Hahaha - I'm so ashamed of myself right now. The accounting scandal was icing on the cake - I've always hated them for bleeding themselves of cash through absurd dividends (I have my own thoughts on high dividends that I'll keep to myself). Now it's time to use and abuse PWT to make some cash.

Well I've been following ARIAD pharma since they had their drug pulled from the market and was crushed from about $22 to $2.

Drug is now back on the market and is becoming approved in many other countries, they also just received breakthrough designation on one of their drugs they are in the process of becoming FDA approved. I managed to average down to about $6.10 a share, and it looks like the stock is finally making the right moves to become a rocket ship.

It's a pretty risky play, like most biotech but my gut just makes me feel good about this one..

Anybody in here do any proper day trading? I was throwing around the idea of some paper practice, then upping my questrade subscription to enhanced streaming w/ TSX-V level 2 for a month. $75 for TSX level 1 and TSXV level 2, I've spent more on less. Take a few weeks off work and give a try...

- Does the venture have enough activity to find high volume stocks to follow?
- Does Canada have any kind of daytrading rules like the pattern trader in US (fairly certain QT doesn't follow that one)
- Level 2 is needed amiright? Level 1 would be insufficient?

Could even add pink/otc level 2 for like $10/month :nut: :nut:

if you could stop questrade from risk reviewing shit, then it might work. but i've set that off a few times on less than 10% of portfolio being traded and its a PITA

your actual profit is real time though so if you can do some quick math selling isnt an issue... using limits for buying would solve the buying side of things too

i thought there was rules on buying and selling the same stock over and over again though? but you could get around it by using options since each strike and expiry is a separate entity?

To really make that shit worth it I think you'd need rebates, not pay out fees. And then you'd need to be moving like >100,000 shares per day. (I only know this because I did it for a while and was moving a lot of shares. It takes a very specific personality to do it, can be really stressful.)

Very very few people NEED level two quotes to day trade, unless you're doing something horrendously niche-like.

Is anybody here looking into how to leverage obama's decision to spend $263 million on body cameras for police officers?

TASR looks like it could be a good contender to be awarded a large portion of the contracts, is anybody else doing any research on this?

Trying to decide right now if this is an over-reaction and cheap stock, or tainted stock

Analysts rate it a buy at $35. My buddy picked it up at $18 yesterday and I'm holding it also (@$35  )

People still buying RRX? Still not sure if I should average down or just wait for tax loss season to be over.

Apparently they have been this morning

Up 8.1% as of right now - yesterday had a decent AM climb and then it fell back to open by close. We'll see what the afternoon brings. I got in on Thurs @ 6.19. Tempted to buy some more...

I'm just waiting for the institutional investors to hammer the oil stocks again. I suspect they did some massive selloffs, driving the price down, with a plan to pick them back up again at grossly discounted prices.

Yeah I'm a little hesitant to jump back in yet. Think it might just be a dead cat bounce.

Sold 3 quarters of my Cattle position, bought in -1.95 offered out +0.025. Will hold and see where the last quarter goes. Really happy how this trade turned out.

Bought a couple puts on March 540 Wheat (ECBOT). Will see how that goes.

Aye as well..... What companies stand to gain the most with a low oil price? I think someone mentioned airlines earlier such as WJA. Theyre on a tear right now... Thoughts?

That is what they say but at the end of the day everyone is probably thinking the same thing and that's why airlines have shot up so much this past few weeks but who knows lol.

ENB jumped from $54 to $64 this morning based on a financial restructuring.
That's one green out of many reds.

I looked into it after reading your post.

Seems like a good buy as their operating costs for an OS project seem reletively low. They have definite netback potential even at these low prices.

What do you guys think about the pipes today?

I'm thinking it may be a good place to park some money till the dust settles.
