Not sure if the markets will start their downward trek again, but I have a feeling oil will go down below $40 again as there are still no fundamentals to support oil increasing.
I am really worried about what oil dropping back down to ~$35 will do to the energy stocks that are already at all time lows... I'm all in on MEG :nut:
Still more than 2MM barrels of oil per day are being produced more than being consumed. WCS is going to chart below $30 if oil drops that low again (WTI).
Apparently some shale producers have found a way to be profitable at around $30 WTI... which means they have no reason to stop producing.
I really don't wanna see another 2 years of cheap oil... lol my short term investment became long term but was hoping that meant 1 year tops, not 3 year!

I would assume the huge amount of debt is hurting MEG. The market really prefers lower leverage in this environment.

I bought in at over double that, needless to say I'm holding and will probably double down soon.
I'm waiting until oil drops below $40 again, I think we will see a new 52 week low for POU. And they have a lot of debt, so they'll continue to fall quickly (or moreso than TOU for example, another riddell company that I'm currently holding).
Just my 2c

8% drop today - makes you wonder why such a huge drop when there is no news to support this, and other companies in a similar situation are only losing 2% or so.
MEG may have debt, but they are 2nd most efficient producer as far as I can tell after Cenovus (ie 2nd lowest cost per barrel to produce). Their recent quarter results were pretty encouraging - they have completely turned around from last year. MEG has also started deleveraging and is very well positioned when the economy turns around.
If only I wasn't seeing -55% on my portfolio right now maybe I would be happier :( And if only I had more money to put in MEG.... sigh

Is anyone following CSIQ (Canadian Solar) closely?
Trended over 2 years it seems to have a cyclical pattern, ranging from the low teens to about 40-ish on the high. It is currently sitting on the lower end.
What's the outlook?
JustinL
09-11-2015, 10:03 AM
Looks like an interesting company with reasonable financials. Low energy prices make solar less appealing, but at the same time the ever present shift towards green energy seems to push demand for solar products up. I don't know anything about their products, but that's what I'd research first to see if they have some sort of sustainable competitive advantage over other manufacturers. In short, I have no idea which way this stock will go! That probably doesn't help :)

Made some good money on options lately
Did some calls a month ago on DIS at 100 strike price expiry mid oct
Bought UA Oct 02 calls @ 98 strike price back at the beginning of sept. Closed it yesterday 2.5x profit
Currently up about 34% on my NKE 115 oct 16 calls
Playing options since the S&P dipped a month back has erased all my o&g losses TFSA is almost back at even!! Wahooo
Currently holding CPG, TBE, ATH, SGY and BNK all sitting at +/- 5% losses (30k between the 5). Feeling good about my entry and a long term hold on them

This was more a facetious comment than anything. My post that suggested buying them was based on nothing more than a gut feel, I just guessed right this time haha.

RE: NFLX, I've thought about getting into a long position a few times in the past couple months, but I just can't convince myself their price is going to go up. There's a bunch of competition cropping up, and actually proving it is viable competition (i.e. Amazon). I think rather than a bargain, NFLX is just becoming "right-priced". my 2c :dunno:

I'm still long on NFLX. It could be argued that they have a lot of competition in the streaming service department, but they keep knocking it out of the park content wise which I think is a bigger advantage than the technology.

I bought both BTE ($6) and MEG ($9.20) last week. Within 2 days I had a bad feeling, but I chose to sell MEG for a small profit (~$9.4 I think) and held onto the BTE. Wish I sold BTE instead and held onto MEG lol.
If I were to buy into them again, I think I would buy MEG instead of BTE. $4 BTE would be very tempting though..

Im seriously looking at UA and FL for the next month before they report earnings as well. UA is killing it lately and FL just rides off the success of nike and under armour. Unfortunately i locked some money up in LULU and DIS options a few weeks ago otherwise i could have got in both ~5 % ago.
Anyhoo im no expert but if anyone wants to follow my advice on these ones if they come down a bit im definitely getting some calls on UA and FL before their earnings (~oct 20)

Yeah, i was reading something about Timothy Sykes, I understand that im not gonna make 30,000$ in 1 week, i need to do more research and learning.
Only thing is, after all the learning and books, how the heck are you suppose to start. do you just go to a site, deposit some money, buy some stocks wait for it to go up or down, then sell, all in the same day. Cause im pretty sure, theres a bigger process of it. It would definitely be nice to have a mentor to follow around, cause hell i can read 10 books about penny stocks, and at the end of the day all i know is how to read graphs, etc.. but just starting out is the problem. :dunno:

TCW is attractive since they own a lot of equipment and some patents, but lots of competitors doing better than them makes me weary that they can win the work when things come back. They also lost staff to competitors too.

I had A LOT of money in my aria position (like 50% of my portfolio) around $5.15, when it spiked there I sold 80% of my position for $9.48avg. I had an opportunity to sell at that price before that but felt a little more optimistic. It was enough to buy a new sports car, so it was like hitting the lottery for me!
