Every single one of these companies have people working for them or people running them, that I know or someone that I work with knows, or someone that a friend of a friend knows.

You’re getting murdered because it is a Unit Trust. The government is looking at changing the laws regarding the way these stocks are taxed. The average unit trust loss is 36% because the government has not been clear about the future taxation of these companies. The ruling is supposed to be early 2006, until then your in for a ride.

Are there any "good investments" for medium risk with low starting capital? I was looking at the BMO Dividend Fund that I keep hearing about, but I don't have the $5,000 to start investing with. Are there mutual funds that don't require a $5,000 deposit to start investing?

At least your not the only one who got killed on OCL. The insiders had thier own money sunk into it at around .50 cents. Do they have any holes left? Might be a good time to buy in while your cost is below the directors. Might also want to open the window and throw your wallet out the window.. time will tell.

another one to watch for would be SLI, there drill result should be out soon, again, it's just a 50-50 chance, but at this price, I say it is a good bet. IMHO

Aye, this one hurted, ah well thats always the risk to take w/ penny stock :d no guts no glory ahah.. they still have a few wells in Romania that should have results coming in soon.... and they aint giving up on block 22 in yemen yet, they might just move the rig over a little bit and drill again.... who knows.. time will tell.

nah. It's riding at the top of the band, keep an eye out of the macd, MAs of 30/60 looks good. Keep it for a bit longer but since you bought it at $10, you've gotten a great return already. ($18.40 +0.42) I'm guessing you bought it last May-June..... It's been quite steady since then.

medium risk but with fairly low returns. Might want to rethink this one if you need your money soon. This is one of those "leave it for awhile" investment. Good that its RRSP eligible. It invests in alot of fixed-income securities... safe but boring.

I picked it up at the end of october last year (same time as I got google; should've hung on to it for a bit longer) . So far there has been an 80%+ return so im not complaining. The issue is that right now the MACD looks like its ready to converge, and the fact thats its miles above the 50 average. sell it knowing i made a decent return, or hang on for another googlesque anticipation.

oh yea.. i read the wrong chart for prices, it was 2004 last year! Remember, you don't realize any gains until that money is in your bank account. :D

Bump! I am part of two fantasy simulators competition.
The first requires a portfolio diversification with 30 securities to be bought with no changes allowed for 3 months. (starts in a week)
The second is unlimited trades and allows CDN$100,000 and USD$100,000 to be virtually spent. (3 month time frame)
Anything you guys recommend for the 3 month lock down or the $200,000 simulators? i am up about 6% in a week, figured beyond members would have some decent ideas.

Personal analysis. These days, anyone can call themselves an expert. Even dumbasses looked smart last year with the TSX. Do your own due diligence.

Just wanted to post an update to the picks I made last week. The price next to the company title is my actual entry price on these stocks.
Example:
Company Ticker: Company Name (My Entry)
Price on (when posted) 01-09-2006: (Closing Price on Date)
Price Today: (Closing Price Today)
Gain/Loss: (Based on Price on 01-09-2006)
- Followed by some thoughts/news/research
XPD: Expedition Energy ($0.75)
Price on (when posted) 01-09-2006: $0.69
Price Today: $0.66
Gain/Loss: -4.3%
- Still waiting / expecting some good news out of this company in the next few weeks. Going to watch this for a few days to see where it heads.
COH: Collicut Energy Services ($3.50)
Closing Price on (when posted) 01-09-2006: $4.60
Price Today: $4.80
Gain/Loss: +4%
- Next Q's results will be similar to Q1/Q2 of 2005 so this should be very good. Original bought this because of CFO insider buying as well as the company share buyback program.
DVQ: Divcom Lighting ($0.40)
Price on (when posted) 01-09-2006: $0.40
Price Today: $0.44
Gain/Loss: +10%
- Not much to update here right now.
SAT: Asian Television Network ($0.55)
Price on (when posted) 01-09-2006: $1.30
Price Today: $1.35
Gain/Loss: +3.8%
- I sold half my position so I could get my original investment out. 11-12 straight Q's of profit so the next should be good with the introduction of new channels.
NIK: Nikos Explorations Ltd ($0.11)
Price on (when posted) 01-09-2006: $0.15
Price Today: $0.15
Gain/Loss: 0%
- Very thinly traded but there has been some volume the past fews days. Maybe somethings up?
SYN: Synenco Energy Inc ($17.50)
Price on (when posted) 01-09-2006: $17.35
Price Today: $20.35
Gain/Loss: +17.3%
- This was/is a very long term play. Last week I said don't expect a quick profit here but it looks as though I was wrong. 17% in one week is excellent. The company has released no news lately but I've been looking at recent drill licenses and these guys are drilling alot in Alberta right now. I think others have caught on to this as well and realized it is undervalued currently even though the production isn't there. Peak production for the oil sands is 2010 so this is an excellent on for the RSP.
PSH: Portrush Petroleum ($0.12)
Price on (when posted) 01-09-2006: $0.16
Price Today: $0.205
Gain/Loss: +28%
- I hope some of you got in on this last week. They announced today that the rig is on site and they expect to spud tomorrow. The same lease has had 6 drills to date and all 6 were put into production. The current well is a deep well ~10,000 feet and chances are it's going to be a good hit by looking at past results on the lease. If it hits it might just turn into a multi deep well drill. Expecting alot more out of this one still.

89coupe - Some nice picks you have there. Anything recent for us to check out? You have a proven record from that list. Not one pick in the red.
SYN was up another 14% today. :D

should be a good think for the wendys chain and tim hortons...stock prices will rise but i dont think it will significantly affect them.
on the other hand...markets might close early today cuz theres such a high volume of trading going on....all canadian stocks are hitting pretty low today too.

I have a couple stinkers and a few that haven't popped yet, but I'm patient.
I also own.
CZE. Bought in at .95 currently $1.00
PLE. Bought in at .07 currently .11 (HIGH RISK)
SAZ. Bought in at .07 currently .09 (HIGH RISK)
ROL.a Bought in at $1 currently $1 (I honestly believe they will be $2 by the end of the year)
BCF Bought in at $1 currently .97
Last year I was only investing $1-5K depending on the company. This year I would like to increase my initial investment to $5-20K depending.
