Anybody watching GUL lately? It just dropped 40% in 3 days

weee

There is some serious werid trading going on there. They are partneed with EERG and IFR in the same deal with Oilexco and IFR is down a bit on small volumes, and EERG is holding steady, but GUL is getting its ass handed to it

very strange

Sold out of ASX today on the last of the drill results for 2006. I'll be looking to pick up this one in the summer some time.

URA has had a nice spike today and I will be looking to exit probably around $1 if it gets there again....lots of news could propel this stock nicely. Finally I'm at even lol

My CGT has had a nice week too...

I should also say that I am into UF.UN for my RRSP.

Its a fund for uranium producers, near term producers and exploration co's (advanced stage).

Should be a nice mixed bag for healthy returns in the years to come. I think it is a nice way to grab a mixed bag of uranium companies and it also pays a dividend. Much less speculative than playing pure equities.

Totally forgot about PTU. Nice consolidation, not moving much though.

Still holding half my position in URA. Looking for 1.00. TONS of volume today :)

Are 100% of dividends taxable? or is it still considered capital gains?

Mckenzie
04-05-2007, 01:25 PM
Dividends are subject to a dividend tax credit so they are not really 100% taxable.

Defenitely not a capital gain though.

Canmorite
04-05-2007, 01:28 PM
Divdends are taxed differently then capital gains. Don't know the exact amounts, though...

Yea it's a tiny company.... but that would be why shares are around 20cents with a small market cap. The intriguing thing is the insider buying, and the amount of land they hold.

i completely sold out of PLE after that last NR, could be a while before they start drilling, but i will probably get back in later, especially if it goes to low 20s

Not sure whats up w/ TEL! I had some money left over from selling ASX and PLE so I thought i would invest it somewhere.. for some reason I decided to jump in on TEL this afternoon. needless to say I was pretty surprised when I came back from lunch and saw that my holding had increased 10%

Bought some V.TEL towards the end of the day. Great pattern. Looking for ~1.20, and with 0.18 cents of risk per share, the risk reward is great.

~1.20 is based on prior resistance, as it traded alot between 1.10 and 1.30 at the height of the run a few months ago. A lot of people who bought at 1.20 want their money back, and will sell when the price returns to 1.20.

Some won't sell, and the stock could break through the all time highs of 1.32 and continue upwards.

http://img366.imageshack.us/img366/764/vtelmo7.png

URA had a bearish close but the uptrend remains in tact. I would treat this as a buying-opp right now (Although not great upside potential vs. downside risk).

URA has the same thing as TEL, lots of resistance to run into. First at ~0.80 (which were hitting right now) and then ~0.95-1.00. I would plan to sell a bit 0.95-1.00 and hold the rest, because Uranium is extremely hot right now.

Haha apparently you make lotsa dollars trading so cutting a deal should not be necessary right? ;)

Anyways, thanks for the info. I will be looking to exit half my URA at around $1 and will probably keep a sizeable chunk for 2007 as it should be quite the mover.

I may pick up some more TEL too. Riding this one wayyyy up right now.

uranium participation and the uf.un are both dealing with uranium itself so whenever uranium goes up expect those to go up.

Ive been holding myself off buying uranium participation for the last little while thinking I could get better leverage in a junior play or something but I think the way to go for good steady gains are Uranium participation. I just bought the uf.un in my rrsp and im hoping it does well.

Did anyone else join that globeinvestor stock contest?

I just checked mine and im up 13% ...The only thing which wasnt conveyed in this contest is that you cant trade your stocks after your 14day trial of globeinvestorgold was expired. Thats when I really just stopped watching because my strategy was to buy and sell a couple stocks. I guess it wouldnt have made much a difference since im rated 579/4141 but it wouldve been better that way.

So anyone else join the contest but not the "beyond" group?

Venture getting stuck at all time highs and this is the reason for all the red. Time to unload a few holdings. We had this sell off last may too!

TCR has broken down today but on light volume. This means short-term profit taking has begun, and is likely to continue if the Venture Exchange gets stuck at these all time highs.

Haha well I learn best visually, and charts really help. I'm not too bullish on TEL or the venture at these levels right now, though. If we can break above that ~3300 on the Venture level and hold we're into the next stage of an uptrend. If not, sell.

EDIT: Letting go of my losers right now. Stocks that are already weak and starting to fall apart break down easier when the entire exchange stalls.

This time I am holding.

The problem with these pennies is that large news can violate any technical reasoning. With Uranium so hot, I wouldn't be suprised to see this thing go higher. But for the short term...

A little to post this one but I don't know if anyone here trades options. Puts on this one working well right now.

They've done two private placements over the last 4 months... technicals not looking great but the prices have been kept down due to their latest PP of 1.45 common and $1.65Flowthroughs. They did a multiple tranche on this latest deal so they're taking advantage of the markets.

It's got to break above $1.50 on strong volume and once that happens, watch out for sellers from the PP.

There are other places to put your money in... anyone get into GXM?

IIRC, last year there was a big drop in mid april well in advance of "stay away may". Thoughts (and charts) anyone?

^ what a better time to buy. It's all investor psychology... everyone starts this "sell in may" a little early to get "ahead" of the game. My charts have too many indicators to fit.

typically things start to pick up by August.

Warrants coming free-trading for TEL today from Flow-through in December.

3 million to be exact.

Might be a good time to pick up some more.

December 12, 2006
December 12, 2006 - Kelowna, British Columbia – Trigon Exploration Canada Ltd. (“Trigon”) (TSX-V: TEL) announced today that it completed its private placement announced on November 21, 2006 with PowerOne Capital Markets Limited and Westwind Partners Inc. (the “Agents”) acting as agents. Trigon issued 3,000,000 units (“Units”) at a price of $0.40 per Unit for gross proceeds of $1,200,000 (the “Offering”). Each Unit consisted of one flow-through common share and one-half of one transferable warrant, with each whole warrant (“Warrant”) entitling the holder to purchase one non flow-through common share of Trigon at $0.50 per share until December 11, 2008.

The Agents received a commission payable in cash equal to 8% of the gross proceeds of the Offering and non-transferable options which entitle the Agents to acquire up to 300,000 Compensation Units at a price of $0.40 per Compensation Unit until December 11, 2008. Each Compensation Unit consists of one non flow-through common share and one half of one Warrant.

Trigon intends to use the proceeds of the Offering to fund grassroots exploration in Canada. The Company will renounce in favor of the purchasers for the 2006 taxation year Canadian exploration expense (as defined in the Income Tax Act (Canada)) equal to the net proceeds of the flow-through shares sold in the Offering. The Offering has been approved by the TSX Venture Exchange.

The flow-through common shares and Warrants sold pursuant to the Offering may not be resold until April 12, 2007 pursuant to the requirements of the TSX Venture Exchange and applicable securities laws.

My current picks

URA
RSG
GCA
ROL.A
SBS

URA & RSG seems to have a lot going on right now, if you read on stockhouse, a lot of talk about PP and a hopefully within the next month, these two will jump

GCA i'm kind of hopeful for. lots of reserves discovered. i think they're about 60% oil, and 40% natural gas. if natural gas prices go up this summer, this should rise.

ROL.A & SBS are two of my stinkers. looking for an exit for these two...

I like some of these picks. I had GCA as one of my picks, and still do. URA is decent, and RSG might provide something.

I might sell out of some LVN to get into GCA, as I really like the mid-term outlook on it.

Wow...little PLE chuggin away there.

Nice close for URA and PLE.

As for the above mentioned picks, I was on Rol-a for a while but the stock suffers from lack of liquidity in my opinion which makes it hard to get out of and it also creates huge bid/ask spread. This is a very important aspect to investing IMO. Although I do agree that the fundamentals are positive.

BTW, Sprott Moly fund comes trading monday reportedly....I might have to pick up a bunch of warrants. :D

If anyone here still likes ASX, now would be the time to get back in. It just bounced off it's 1.80 (ish) support level.

Still kicking myself about GCA, which is looking very good over the last few days.

Just got me into LV Longview Capital....kind of like a diversified mining capital management corp with large positions in public and private resource sector stocks.

Should be good for a hold.

Lots of green today for me.... especially PLE. Apparently there is favorable news out today about the government wanting to promote mining interests in Northern Peru where their flagship property is. This is great news for PLE....geo-political risk is biatch but can be managed.

NSM
CGT
TEL
PLE

All making me smile. :D

Looks like the Venture had a good day today... :) Maybe we have a few more weeks left in this baby. I think the tops in the venture can be picked when you have retarded volume and big single day gains. Then they are followed by a single day drop of more then 1% on big volume. If history is any judge, i think you can make the most money in the few days leading up to the may sell off so im going to be increasing my stop loss orders coming into to may and Ill see how I do.

I dont really know what im doing but learning about money is fun

Are cheap stocks with huge % gains a bad idea? Looking at UTS and LPX on TSE and they've made some decent gains. LPX recently had a big nose dive in stocks, do you guys tend to stick with the steady climbers?

I think I'll keep track of them on paper and see how various stocks do then start trading real money. :D

Even better, go to www.investopedia.com and use the Stock Simulator, it's a great system and a good way to practice.
