Oh snap, what to do?

BWR is at $2.30
NSM is at $1.24

Take the profit and run? I need a Canmorite chart! haha

BWR.... keep it for a bit longer. Good support levels at 2.10-2.15.

MLY IPO was at $5.00. Over-subscribed units which include 1 share + 1/2 warrant

Today make me happy

My two biggest holding now are:
TEL - Up 5% today so far
ADA - Just slowly looking better and better, may be another AUN

I sold out of BWR again.

Losing on BDO, i have an uncanny skill when it comes to buying right at the very top... haha

Also been holding onto TLG for ever.... Bought in way last summer. It might be primed for a pop up to 0.30 or so. They are going to release a new resource estimate soon.

Hope everyone else is having a good day

BWR looks best, NSM has a lot of resistance. Definitely hold onto BWR for now.

EDIT: Forgot the chart! haha

The only thing that bugs me with BWR is the fact that its hitting the top of it's channel. If we can break above this, we're set

Good stuff. BWR looks like a good one.

TEL is on a tear as well.
Can we see over $1 tomorrow?

I sold 3500 shares of TEL in my gf's portfolio, she was satisfied with the small profit. I still have 5000 shares of TEL.

Yea it definitely is heading that way. Too late for an entry here though. I would wait for a pullback (if there is one).

It could even head higher then 0.40.

They are real-time Level II's.

Am not! I used to religiously read "Technical Analysis for Stocks and Commodities" magazine back in the day. I like Technicals because they give you an glance, but you do have to do your dd on Fundamentals. Blah...who am I kidding, this is just a part time hobby for me. I'll leave the money making to the pros on here.

There might be a sell in may and go away for all the sectors but I believe metals and mining wont stop. I held through it last year and it doesnt even show up on any chart I look at so Im holding onto it this year...might even pick up some more :D

I think so. Trending upwards for a while and it made a good base for a few months. Needs to break and hold above 4.50, too.

I mean the way I pick/trade stocks. I've talked to a couple brokers in the industry and it's mostly fundamental analysis. Which is fine, I just haven't learned that side of it.

Today's market has been kinda flat. Go where the volatility is, though. TELK on NASDAQ, for exmple. Traded that one for a bit this morning but now it's dead...

I'm in the same boat as you, but didn't do my Degree in Finance; which I regret. Now I'm working full-time doing non-finance work, and going to school in the evening.

Right now I'm working on L1 of my CFA to hopefully get my foot in the door. The fundamental side of things is really interesting, but can be disgustingly complex. I think that's part of the reason I focus so much on the venture, the technicals can be more finicky, but doing any sort of fundamental research is simpler.

Ah. Well that I didn't know. I think it would be easier to sell a client on a certain company using financial statements, sector performance, etc etc vs. 'consulting' a chart. You'd need large and steady track record to do that.

Does anybody know of good investment books for beginners? I know there are a lot of sources online for it, but I spend all day looking at a computer screen already. With a book, I can at least read it sitting on the couch, watching tv, etc.

I have made some decent money in the past, but that was through tips other people have given me, and taking some chances on speculation.

I'd like to be able to just understand the terminology, charting, etc..

CCE (Commerce Resources). They came by the office awhile ago to give us and update and they were at the mining show in Calgary a couple weeks back. They have excellent assets especially with their Tantalum/Niobium Projects. Huge spike in share prices with a gap up. It will eventually come back down to the .70 range but one could potentially make money in between.

PTU still has room to go down. Indicators can read over sold for a long time before it starts to bounce. Look for it to find a bottom at around ~1.00.

Hah ive been holding ptu since it was in the 20 cent range and im sure glad I have. People get really impatient with this stock trying to look for quick returns but they always jump in at the top and expect more out of it. Look at the companies properties and what they have going on and the 2 JV's with two of the largest companies in the world and think again.

Ive been thinking of selling since around 1.50 and waiting for the bottom but I just cant take that risk because last time i sold the stock shot up and i missed a potential $5500 profit.

PTU still has lots left...if you want to sell then go ahead but make sure you have the cash flow to buy back in when things start to heat up or youll be left behind.

89Coupe, coincidentally theres a NR For TIO today...did u know about this. :P

I took a quick look at TIO and jumped in late yesterday though :D

EDIT:

Take a look at EMC. A slight pullback over the last two days, but this stock has been steadily rising. Might be a good time to get in, wish I had some extra cash.

How many of you guys hold infrastructure funds? I'm looking at getting into some but not sure which ones to get into. Any tips? Thoughts?

I think the asian market dip is a good thing. Might be a good chance to break back into the market. I pulled my money out last week just before the record closes - I've been regretting that for the last week. :banghead:

Defenitely a good day to sit on the sidelines....nothing is up. :(

do you guys think it is the beginning of what to come in normally in May, or just a little market fluctuation that probably will find its way back up soon?

I'm trying to decide if I should just start cashing out now and watch

I'm watching more closely now.. I may very well sell my holdings that I've made less money on.. and the ones that have gone up alot I'll just increase my position when everyone sells since chances are it won't go down to what I got in at..

I'm thinking more of a blip for now, combined with market selling for tax deadline approaching....could be a smaller rally going into may.

But who knows...markets reaching all time highs probably good for a cool off here.

TSX down 113 points right now. Kinda expected, we had 4 up days in a row.

BWR down 0.10 cents, needs to close above 2.10.

Ugh, so much red, $1000+ paper loss and a lot of stops hit.

Also, Oil has broken to the downside. Watch your resource stocks and big O&G companies.

Most likely buying puts on HSE, IMO, XOM, OIC, OIH, etc...

EDIT: Sold V.URA for a $4.00 loss

I dumped my PAX and NWI. Significant losses. Holding RSI, BWR and PTU and looking to buy something :-)

Ahhhh......sold NSM for a small profit, just holding onto 5000 shares of BWR and TEL.

Still have some cash on the side but too scared to buy anything. Was thinking about 89coupe's TIO recommendation.

Canmorite, chart on TIO?

Anyone have an outlook for TIO tomorrow?

Didn't seem to have much reaction to the NR released this morning.

AFAIK, the stock plummeted because the ownership of their properties in Africa was in question, which has since now been resolved.

Thus, we "should" expect the stock to climb back to it's old share price. Considering this stock already has drill results, you would think it is worth more than PLE.

Google reported better then expected earnings, up $11.00 in aftermarket.

T.TIO looks like its going to pullback more especially with the triple digit loss on the TSX today. I'd put a limit order in for 0.155 (The low from yesterday) and put my stop at 0.105.

5 cents risk per share, 1000 shares risk = $50 + Commission.

TIO is a bottom play, so be careful. Lots of resitance at 0.20 and 0.25 so not a lot of short term upwards movement most likely...

If it were me, I wouldn't buy this right now but go for it if you want. 89Coupe has quite the track record

I'm starting to play more downside stuff right now, and a little bit of hedging. Bought puts on XOM and OIH as oil is breaking down.

I'm trying to watch aftermarket (AMD and GOOG) so i'll post some stuff later or something haha.

Canmorite
04-19-2007, 02:52 PM
Wow, GOOG back down to 480.00 from a high of 495.93 about 15 mins prior. AMD posted a huge loss as well, but its not moving...

EDIT: AMD halted, thats why.

Sold AMD for a $5.75 gain

Canmorite, I know I've asked this before. I know the TSX has a Bullish Percent Index ($BPTSE), but do you know if something like this exists for the Venture?

I find the BPI to be a great tool to use....

Canmorite
04-20-2007, 05:03 PM
BPI? I've never heard of that before...

What software are you using for charting? Can you show me a chart of the BPI on the TSX? To get a better understanding of what you're talking about...

liquid1010

On stockcharts, which is what I usually use, try the symbol: $BPTSE

It's essentially an index that plots the daily trend of stocks on the uptick or downtick for that day. The interesting part is to really see the trend in that index, as a macro level view of market timing. I find it quite useful, but have yet to find a BPI index for the Venture.

Usually the trend is between 50-60 (%), however right now the TSX is sitting around 70%.

If anyone finds a BPI for the venture, let me know.

Canmorite

Looks like an oversold/overbought indicator, or a way of measuring bullish/bearishness in the market?

Overly bullish means time to sell, over sold is time to buy?

The symbol for the Venture is $CDNX but I don't know the BP one.

SBUX with a stop at 30.90. If you can't afford the stock look at options, thats what I'm doing.

NFLD, squeeze play. Risky, not a lot of shares.

ALAN, huge move up on volume. Looks like T.BLE a few months ago. Stop at 2.50, but will move up if it looks decent. This is a 'longer' term play which is weird coming from me haha.

Anyway, breaking to new highs on good volume. Just gonna wait for today's close and see how it shapes out.

Alright, saw the close. Pretty bearish, will be on the watchlist though!

For those in Energy plays, the seasonal trend ends very soon. Index is overbought; so take profits if you so desire. A good article on this was in the National Post today....

Heard a lot of that on BNN today too. Sell in May...But people always tend to act earlier.

Yea, if you look at the three year index of $BPENER it provides a really good picture of the swing. It's really quite interesting.

Anything else on your watch list? I'm hesistant to purchase anything right now though, as personally I think the Venture is in for a few negative weeks in the coming month or two.......

Yeah I'm not too sure what to do right now either. I have some cash available but I'm going to wait and see.
