All in all i dont think pennwest is a bad play anymore... Their CEO did pretty well at bankers petroleum before he sold it... hes been doing mass layoffs to lower G&A... Probably the best time to be a PWT shareholder in the past 5 years

really want to see how short covering and stop runs can do to gold/miners. maybe everyone thinks like the last two rate hike there is immediate downside and this is where shorts will get killed.
if gold/miner is now at the beginning of the wave 3 move we have been waiting for so long. really would love to see it just keep stomping higher taking out one resistance after the next without stopping. by the time the world wakes up to it, gold may be out of reach.
on the flip side any complete give back to today's gain would confirm gold is indeed fragile and there is no hope but to just get out or ride the short train until the May/June turn date.

taking a stab at the current count. my wild guess pegs we are in some sort of larger wave iv consolidation follow by a higher high to complete this set of wave 3 off the low yesterday.
edit: the correction so far is 5 waves down 3 waves up, which doent bold well and suggest further downside. gold on the other hand may have already put in 5 waves since the low yesterday. Jury still out which way it goes.
I may buy back my 3rd position if it Jnug drops into the mid 6s or sell my 2nd position near the mid 8s which ever comes first.

Canada Goose IPO'd today and nobody noticed?
GOOS.TO opened at $23.86 on the Toronto Stock Exchange, later slipping to $22.19 as of 11 a.m. ET.
I feel like they will be around for a while as they have service the high end market for some time among adventurer and posh types. However their stock may be quite boring as a short term trade.
My favorite part of the IPO. The animal-rights group PETA said it plans on buying around $4,000 worth of shares so it can speak at the company's annual meetings and urge it to stop using coyote fur in its jackets. Coyotes.. You know the animals currently over populated in Alberta.

just looking at the 1197-1233 move for gold. if the 5 wave completion is indeed in, the min correction should be back to the 38% level at 1219.5
this may be the area I may buy back my miner position depending where it lands.
if miners suddenly churns higher I will be looking to take profit on my other positions. they will have a mental stop loss of gdx under 22.10
if gold breaks above 1230 again, I think uptrend resumes

JNUG is great to get into now. Risk/reward is excellent.
The reason for the dump this morning I believe is a lot of GDXJ options expiry. It was a shakeout, and this is prime time to get in at this price range. $6.60s or so.

gdxj
looking at gdxj because it has some pretty clear wave counts. expecting this is a wave 5-5-5 and possible we are in sub iii of (c) with one more low to come. either way we should be near the bottom.
while technically gdxj has overlapped the previous suggested wave 1 top which is a concern, however gdx has not broken it's prior wave 1 at 22.10 and until it does I will continue to take the bullish stance in the miners

So whats the plan this week? Oil/MEG still on the decline and Gold looks uneventful. If it had a bigger account you could have made some nice JNUG scalps this morning.

I'm still playing this setup on oil via BTE. BTE didn't get the breakout MEG did last time, so I'm hoping a big pop is yet to come. If oil breaks this trend line, I bail:

gdxj
the expectation that it was near a the completion of a wave (c) bottom worked out perfectly. my 6.49 position in Jnug is so far was a perfect entry. count wise, we may have witnessed a truncation fifth wave just under 36 last week.
now the uptrend appears to have resumed and we are in wave 3/4. Price is struggling due to the down neckline which helped rejected price last week.
if miners are bullish, then gdxj should break above this neckline for a sub wave v of (?) and it also needs to not break 36.93
I mention wave v of (?) namely because the count in gdxj does not match gdx. gdx has a clearer count, but due to gdxj having to overlap, it is either a very bullish 1-2, 1-2 setup or suggestive the entire up move is corrective.
but until gdx count gets invalidated to the downside, I remain bullish

fcx
ever since fcx tested and filled the gap in the low 12s, I have been expecting the bottom to be formed in this area.
count wise I am leaning towards the bottom being in with wave v of (C) completed. however it is still very possible the the recent activity could be just another corrective wave with one lower low ahead, but I feel the new low would be quickly recovered.
Now just waiting for a breakout move to confirm the bottom being in by taking out wave (iv) and the 200EMA off the hourly above 14.00

DXY back into mid 99's, haven't seen that in a while. Gold responds accordingly, but miners are not performing. The reason for this is usually miners have those 15-30% days when both the market and gold move up together. So with SPY down, it is really holding back the miners.
It's too bad because that could easily push JNUG 8+ easy.

dollar
weeks ago when dollar was testing the 102 area, I suggested this was the 38% retracement of the 103-99 down move and if the dollar is to begin an immediate decline it must top here or risk further upside (new highs)
not only was it rejected off this area (which would have been the perfect area to go short), it has since broken the h&s neckline that I warned last week. sure dollar is oversold and could see a bounce, but technically I believe the pattern would be every bounce will be met with selling to new lows until it reaches the 200 EMA and ultimate the 95-96 target.

Yes miner isnt_performing as it should with gold again making new highs. if miners begin to overlap prior waves again, then this could indicate the possibility of some extended correction which was not complete both in time and perhaps price. will be watching this closely_

well closing above the 200EMA is pretty significant in my opinion. I think it would be a better chance if gold can get to the upper down trendline just under 1300
here is the catch, count wise gold is supposed to be in a 1-2, 1-2 setup which means if this is the beginning of wave 3, it will just blow pass any trendline or resistance

unwinding my 2nd Jnug position.
With gdx officially completing 5 waves. may need to anticipate another ABC correction if it does not extend it's 5th wave.
with gold making great strides and miner not acting impulsively, I am leaning towards underlying weakness in the mining complex.

yesterday I posted the possibility that due to the underperformence of the miners it is possible it may be moving into a sub 2 correction. looking at gold, unless we have some sort of stealth extension somewhere, it does look like a clear 5 waves up off the low along with -div on the RSI and MACD it may be ready to backtest the 200EMA in the coming days.
I unwinded 2 of my 3 Jnug position in anticipation of such pullback but not completely exited all my position due to the uber bullish possibility shown as an alt count orange.
edit: gold has some upside momentum to begin the morning, if gold cant break under 1244, watch out for continuation to push higher. orange count would begin to make alot of sense and also confirm how gdxj is in a 1-2, 1-2 setup if miners begin to act impulsively.

natgas
for my own count. ever since I suggested the crossing above 2.90 would begin to seal away the bottom. we may have had the completion of 5 waves up until now with a slight possibility there may still be a wave v of V. I think when it comes to natgas_it is extremely volatile and deceptive._
for example it rallied off 2.54 which didnt quite hit the next fib support label at 2.44 and turned around completely. now it broke the previous wave 1 low at 3.073 by hitting 3.08 by a penny. for all I know it could begin to drop as a short trap but clearly it could be invalidation and confirmation that the bottom is in.
anyhow looking for a drop to begin back in the to 2.7-2.8 range we may get our 2.7 area after all to buyback.
the only alt count suggest the recent rise to be wave (b) and wave (c) in a running flat that also points to the 2.8 area. either way, I am expecting this to be a major wave 2 pull back then rally strongly.

Prior was -237K
Last week was the first draw after 9 weeks of increases
Cushing +1419K
Gasoline -2811K vs -2400K expected
Distillates -1910K vs -1500K expected
Refinery utilization +2.3% vs +0.23% exp
Production +0.2% w/w and +1.0% y/y to 9.129mbpd

Edit: 47 just barely holding hah

^ This still looks good to me.
Refinery usage is up, yet gasoline draws are bigger than expected.
Going with roughly 2:1 for oil to refined gasoline, this gasoline draw needs 5600K barrels of oil refined to replace it, far more than the build in crude.

oil vs gold
posted the oil and gold comparison a few times. even months ago shortly after gold bounce off the low of 1122. I begin to compare the two and couldnt help but see similarities
I imagine if this pattern is to continue gold should be on the verge of a pull back but not dipping back into the blue box before shooting higher.
I believe it is only a matter of time until gold test the 1278-1280 area being the last line in the sand for bears. given the 1278 area is the 61% retracement of the 1375 to 1122 down move.

as i mentioned yesterday, I am now leaning towards miners dropping into a larger wave 2 correction pull back after seeing that it completed 5 waves off the low since the FOMC news.
the expectation is a pull back down to the 22 area in the coming days or 1-2 week time frame.
alt count, cant rule out there can still be one more smaller wave towards a higher high (orange)
I have since scaled back and taken my profit on 2/3 positions in Jnug. will attempt to either do nothing or buy back when gdx hits the low 22s
edit: I also suggested the gold needs to break below 1244 to begin a similar sell off, however over night it rallied off 1244.10 to remain bullish in the short term. if gold doesnt crack soon, this may still hold miners up (bull trap?)
not expecting miners will make any leaps to the upside, due to the count I posted.

gold
not much changed from the last count I posted yesterday. even with a higher high I think gold can still be on the verge of closing a wave v of (v), expecting a pull back into the 1217-1230 region in the coming days or weeks.
gold technically needed to break below 1244 yesterday to confirm down trend, it rallied off 1244.1 overnight and remained bullish. but we will see if this breaks today
miners have been showing some underlying weakness of late. reminds me of the mid Feb this year where gold was continuously making new highs but miners did not follow and collapsed shortly after. we could be seeing a deja vu but in a minor scale.

gpl
ever since I anticipated a big drop when price was testing the 2.25 top and even played a perfect sell and re-buy at lower prices. price remains weak and is overshooting my downside target.
while it has fully fulfilled the requirement of a correction it has yet to give any signs of a change in trend. with a sharp wedge pushing lower, from my last charting I was expecting price to go after the 1.56 61% fib support. so far it has rallied off that area this morning. we will see if this will translate to some sort of bottom.
looking at h&s patterns. it has always be a 60% probability, but looking at how gpl in the in last 2 years. you can see clearly that h&s breakdowns never hit their low target and in fact the reverse and breakout to the upside confirmed the change in trend.
will gpl continue this? we will know when price recloses above 1.80
I have big enough position size that I do not need to do anything. I may however be tempted if price reaches down to the 78% fib level and 200EMA between 1.38-1.45

looks like a larger wave 2 is indeed underway. I was expecting gdxj_rise this week to be a wave (B) top and the correction began on the 16th of March to make sense of the wave being overlapping._
now gold still has not broken the 1244 support to confirm the same wave 2 correction, and there is a slight change that if gold does not break 1244, it still remains in the bullish count I had a few days back. after all, for cycle counters, gold really needs to produce a new high above 1264 to keep the cycle bullish
does this mean miners could be bottoming this week and gold continues to grind higher? perhaps.
while it is nice to see both miners and gold move together. still cant rule out miners bottoming and gold just taking a breather.
looking at gdxj, a possible A=C scenario, waiting for one more wave lower to test the rising neckline and create a +div and will be rebuying_my 2nd Jnug position

close enough to the rising neckline. buying back my 2nd position in Jnug at 6.41, leaving a 3rd order in the mid 5s.

Out of JDST. JNUG looking like it may have legs. Went 12.83 - 14.40.
Edit: Now I'm wishing I didn't, but I'll stay out. Profit is profit, and I really don't like being stuck in too long on bear trades.

Here is my uber bullish count if gold refuses to drop down to the 1217-1230 area. price can still be in this count (imo) as long as it remains above 1235.5
this would line up well for miners to find a bottom today or tomorrow

gdx
ever since gdx made a perfect 5 wave off the low of 21.14 I was expecting a wave 2 pull back which has obviously started. selling the 2 leverage position near the top was a nice move but that was all based on the counts. and counts can certainly change really quickly, we just try to make the best probable guesses based on this, and often this so call EW counts are driven by market sentiment and technical cycles and patterns where they all intercede each other on multiple time frames. I feel it gives off enough truth of what is to come and as long as it is correct >60% of the time I will use it.
anyways looking at the recent sell off. gdx has rallied off the 38% fib level which imo can be A bottom if gold decides to act impulsively to the upside. but if it doesnt, I suspect gdx still has to trace out a lower price target zone some where between 22-22.5 but not closing below 22 which would imply a more bearish tone.
if gdx manages to recapture above 23.14, then one could begin to get excited again for the potential correction ending breakout move.
otherwise as long as we stay below 23.14, a typical correction in time would suggest more side way or lower price movement ahead.

gold
as I posted yesterday, am leaning towards a bullish 1-2, 1-2 setup as long as it holds above 1235.5 otherwise it is a typical 3 wave correction down to the 1217-1230 area.
but with price just hanging on the breakout line with a descending wedge pattern (bullish) my main count is a breakout but if price comes down and takes out today's low unde 1240 it will be an early warning signal of a false breakout move and the larger correction would have begun

Can confirm. Shit is getting wild. Haha.
A Circuit Breaker was issued but im not sure why. They claim to have some crazy optics breakthrough but it might just be vapourware.

So, on a total whim I cashed in all my shares of BNE to try to dump it into something to make me a quick 5%. (I use the term "cashed in" as light as possible, as we all know how oil has done lately).
I dropped the roughly 10g into GBR around 11am, when I saw it has a strong upward trend in the morning. I entered at $1.25, and it has already gained some 30% by that point.
Man, was that a good play. Spiked at $1.95, and I took 8g of it out at $1.85. (Almost sold at $1.92 but I got greedy.) I'm leaving 2g in there to see what happens next week - though it is more likely than not investors will realize this was a momentum increase as opposed to one based on fundamentals.
Still, 50% gain in one day ain't too bad. If I can do that one more time I'll actually be even in my stock market attempts.

Wow, thats quite the move for gold! Hopefully it will stay up over 1254 and miners actually react postively to this!
