Just short term or intraday trades lately. Today a bit of S&P futures, Oil (I don't post those here because I don't think anyone trades futures) and other then that...uhh I'll update it later ;)

EDIT: Probably won't be around that much this week. Exams taking up most of my time.

Canmorite, thoughts on CanWest Communications (CGS) or Norbord (NBD) I'm thinking about picking up 1000 shares of either stock. I could also do 500 of each, depends which graph is better.

I'm still holding on to TEL and BWR and I'm not sure if I should sell or not with the May fire sale coming up. I was thinking of selling to keep my profit and rebuying at a lower price.

Canmorite
04-23-2007, 09:15 PM
Well I need a break from studying so you're in luck.

CGS is trending lower (short term) but on a longer term basis it has come up quite a bit since it's lows in Jul-Oct 2006. I think there are better trades out there, though.

http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/5783/cgstozi3.png

Same thing with NBD...I stay away from stocks that don't have a clear direction or a defined trend. No use trying to 'predict' where a non-directional stock is going to go. In that case, indicators can be fairly useless.

Long term look at the MACD shows bullish divergence, same with RSI. A 'undecided' candle from today shows that buyers and sellers don't know where it wants to go. If I were to enter this I would set my stop under the low of today ~8.25.

http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/3665/nbdtopt1.png

I'm slowly starting to take some profits/close positions before we get into summer here, which is usually pretty dead.

EDIT: I should clarify, starting to close some long positions in the Canadian markets and some US stuff.

Anyone heard of the Hume Report? A copy of it came in the Globe & Mail so I read it over.

'The Hume Report's mission is to seek out high-potential, high-growth investment opportunities before they are discovered by financial analysts and the general business media'

'Had you invested the same amount in all of the companies The Hume Report featured in 2006, you would have realized a profit of over 75%....in fewer than 6 months'

Ummm.....OK

Anyway, it recommended ALZ (Aldershot Resources) and COL (Columbia Metals).

Thoughts?

:bullshit:

If you bought at the exact bottom and sold at the exact top. That's how they measure their picks. I know because I have written things like that for previous clients.

Neither have a defined trend and they are both looking bearish. Very speculative plays at best.

The hume report isnt worth a penny

hah i got to see the hume report a day early when they put it in the globe and mail...it was sometime at the beginning of this year...i watched every stock in that report the next day and out of the 25000 of those reports went out in the globe and mail in calgary alone the stocks that were mentioned hardly moved.

Aldershot resources has been on my watch list for a long time but it just doesnt seem like something i could put my money into when there is all these other plays out there doing the same thing 10x quicker.

max_boost...want 75% in 6 months? BUY BLE :D

The stock parts isn't too bad. Just a separate form for each set of round trips. Remember to write off the commission you paid! I used ufile.ca and it was quite straightforward.

EDIT: NWi up again on good news. Nice to see it finally past 50 after watching it go sideways for about a month. I too am hoping RSG goes up. Some interesting activity today and above average volume. Maybe the market is responding to that PP somehow. Over at HSM they are saying there are drill results pending so there is some momentum in anticipation of that release.

djayz
04-26-2007, 02:52 AM
yah the stocks part was okay after i got the hang of it but it took forever because of all the buys and sells.

one thing that really makes me mad is that ufile has all the boxes from a t3 that you can enter but in quicktax they dont have half the boxes and it doesnt tell you if you need them or not.

and box 42 was a pain in the ass to figure out. Those of you who did your own taxes will know what im talking about haha...unless ofcourse this is your second time around.

BDO.V used to be Ontario hose Specialties or OHS.V

As I understand the company has changed names and moved away from hoses and bought into a deal with Verenex and Vermillion (both on TSX) to drill some huge prospects of the coast of France.

I originally posted on this one about a month back.

Also ADA.V was scheduled to start production on their Zinc mine in Nova Scotia today, but no news release yet...

Also TLG.V is about to release their new resource estimate... Could be good for a trade from 0.20 to 0.25

I'll be holding TEL for a while....lots of news coming down the pipe that could push that one up.

Still waiting for NSM to show me some goods....same with PLE and URA.

Those looking for a Casey Uranium exploration pick might want to check out Hathor Exploration HAT.V- my last Casey pick CGT made me a good chunk and this one has a bit more liquidity to it. It is a genuine explorer with a few JVs in the Athabasca Basin in Sk. near the big boys. Lots of ongoing programs for the year. I will be hanging onto this one for a while I think.

Other holdings.

MLY.TO Moly Fund (doing great)
UF.UN (Uranium Fund- doing nothing for the time being but in RRSP so I'm happy with that)
TRR- long for a while here...lots still to come

Well I just got the tip today so I'm assuming there is more upside, my source has been very reliable thus far.

I finally gave up on SGP after holding it for two years. I did sell half when it hit $1.50 and have been holding on the rest for some time now, finally sold the other day.

As for Rolling Thunder Iwill continue to hold, I have a very large stake in this company. I'm long term, I will hold till they sell the company.

Very nice.

I'm still around. :) I don't think anyone on here picked up any because it doesn't have OIL or ENERGY attached to their name. I think the boats been missed but what price were you looking to pick some up at?

PFM.V - not a buy.

Riiiiight. Not to say they work 100%, but they are a great tool.

I'm going to sell my BWR at $2.40 for a little nice profit. Might buy back later but have to put some cash in the pocket first.

Sold the rest of my BWR today too.

I was just playing. I have taken a number of Finance courses during my MBA... charting is BS for the most part... well except for see what happened, not what will happen.

Saying charts are useless is absurd.

Not that I agree with trading totally based on technicals, but that aspect of behavioral Finance is quite legitimate. Sure, most people would prefer to trade on fundamentals.... But both Financial statements and Charts have their strengths and shortcomings.

Both are important!

Mega Uranium - up 5000%

True. No matter what kind of analysis you use, you are always trying to predict which way it will go.

I use TA over Fundamental because I don't understand it well enough. I wish I did, but I don't. The vast majority of people use Fundamental and it works great for them...

Not trying to start a debate here. In the end, the only goal is profits

I use STA. Stock Tip Analysis.

hahaha.

It has worked for me thus far. Only 1 loser so far. That was cause I let emotions into the mix and got greedy.

So when is the May sell off happening? I think I'm just going to keep cash available and not buy anything unless it's a really good deal. I don't want to go broke right before summer vacation. :D

It may happen, may not. Sorry for the pun.

TSX is in a strong up trend, and it takes a lot to buck that.
