So far it's not bad. To use their TradeFreedom Edge, which is the desktop software, I had to open up a port on the firewall though, so keep that in mind especially if you work for a large company.

There are a lot of broken links on the web based platform though, although it could be because my account isn't funded yet.

What's everyone's exit strategy for SAZ? I obviously sold too soon, I'm wondering if I should buy back in tomorrow if a good opportunity comes up.

Companies issue private placements to raise capital. Institutions and individual investors can subscribe to private placements. Usually holds stock price down to PP levels.

This happend to me as well. It was the ECN that rejected it, so I changed it from FAST to TSX. When I did that it went through.

Are you able to get live venture quotes? I can't get them , until I put an order in and preview it. That's the only time I can see a live quote from the venture. If just just try to look one up, it tells me to see my broker. So basically I'm going in blind, until I preview an order, which doesn't make sense since I need to know the price before I put in an order. WTF?

Another rookie question: When you see the number of volume, say for example in HKO, around 27,017,752.

Is that the number of shares bought? Sold? Or a net amoutn of the two? And if its a net amount, how do you tell if more are from being sold or bought?

It's the net volume... you can't sell something if no one buys it...

Welcome to discount brokers haha. I've found when there is big news, lots of volume, or a big event happening, all customer service lines are super busy and there are usually problems with logging into their platforms.

just a side question, but is this the reason we aren't seeing major jumps at the pump this time around?

any other time oil was heading up, pumps began to jump immediately and high..

Our oil is shipped to the states, refined and sold back to us, and since our buying power has increased dramatically I think thats the reason prices at the pump aren't moving.

I was actually looking at gasoline crack spreads the other day (I hijacked a Bloomberg terminal when nobody was looking) and they appear to be at historically very low levels -- it certainly wouldn't surprise me to see pump prices jump very soon.

This makes me seriously consider investing in some of the integrated oil players -- XOM and PCA in particular. Although I feel that fundamentally, XOM ought to be stronger (with its huge refining capacity and distribution network), I'm steered more towards PCA, due to the weakness in the USD.

Now to free up some $$$ ... I've got a shitload tied up in AEM that I may get rid of soon.

I'm not familiar with crack spreads but I've been hearing they are at very low levels. I know its the 'margin' between the price of crude and the price of petroleum products, and since its very low, that equates to a lower gasoline pump price? Not sure...

What about Valero? Huge refining capacity.

I've got some in AEM, ABX and December Gold which I don't want to sell haha.

Same here...I'm loving gold at the moment (given the uncertainty south of the border), especially AEM with them being completely unhedged and having minimal political risk (I got burned recently by Eldorado and that damn mine closure in Turkey).

Good call with Valero. I'll probably look into call option on them as well. Seems to me that US options (CBOE) are pricier? I've found many undervalued Canadian ones on the Montreal exchange (using Black-Scholes and reasonable implied volatility estimates) -- I'm thinking that it might be because there is less liquidity in the Montreal market and/or there are more speculative players on the CBOE?

I know the price of puts have a huge premium to them lately, which is a bullish sign apparently...

Calls shouldn't be more expensive though, just puts. Theres probably much more efficient pricing on CBOE then MX, and liquidity is probably an issue too. I've never used IV when buying options, don't understand it yet.

Ugghh....I almost always have "market withdrawal" symptoms on Sunday evenings. Need to quit checking this thread and think about other things....
