There was an article in the Globe and Mail today about Birchcliff Enery. Seymour Schulich has predicted it could hit $50 in the coming years. Possibly a good long term play.

I think CMX is just idling waiting for a run on the next drill results. I think GRW was around the same price a couple weeks ago and look at it now. Would not be a bad time to accumulate while it is down, IMO.

I haven't followed this thread since my portfolio tanked with the August meltdown. But I'm back!!! LOL

OK so what is up with Gold? Is it going to retract a bit or keep shooting higher? I've read the long term outlook for gold is going break $1000 easily and possibly end up anywhere in the $2000-$3000 range beating the old high set back in 1980 (inflation adjusted).

How do you buy gold? Can you buy into an index fund linked directly to its price? Or do you buy it through mutual funds like Precious Metals or in specific companies?

I would not be surprised to see GRW hit 40-45 cents tomorrow.

TD Water House can get expensive for penny stocks, from personal experience. The comissions are just too high. Use something like TradeFreedom, Questrade, ETrade, etc. The exception is if you make minimum trade requirements or have a certain value for assets, then TD can be a lot cheaper (I think it's like 9.95 or something maybe at that point). But when you're starting out, it's hard to be flipping stocks everyday or several times a day.

For penny stocks, I would recommend at least 5000 share trades to make it worth while.

For instance, let's say you buy 5000 of ABC for .10 and then sell for .12, just a 2 cent gain.

5000 X .12 = 600 Buy
5000 X .10 = 500 Sell

So that's $100 bucks profit before any comissions, after just 2 cents.

With a bank brokerage, if you're paying $29 a trade or so, it would cost you $58 to buy and sell, so $100 - $58 = $42 profit

For me, I use Trade Freedom, which is $9.95 a trade, plus exchange fees which is like (0.0004 per share on the Venture, so it would be $2 for 5000 shares). So it would be $100 - $23.90 = $76.10 profit.

This is how I play most of my stocks. Start off small. If you make $76.10 just once a week for a month, it adds up. Then just reinvest what you make and increase the number of shares you purchase per trade.

You definately want a lower comission fee especailly if you plan on just making small gains.

If you're going to be making lots of trades, TD's not too bad. I'm at 9.99 a trade right now. If you want a nice platform though, tradefreedom might be the way to go.

We wouldn't be manipulating prices or trading back and forth to make fake volume. We'd be timing our trade together though.. it wouldn't really be much different than an institutional investor that buys large orders

This is still considered market manipulation. By putting all our info/purchases/etc in together, we are manipulating the way the stock will move. With that said, i'm sure tons of people do it..... I'm not one of them however.

Sharing info though is fine by me ;)

Hello All,

I just started trading this year, so I'm still fairly new to stock trading. I have an RBC Direct account, and just finally got my E*TRADE account setup for lower fees, hopefully my funds will be there tomorrow.

However, on Monday I bought 6500 shares of GRW.V at 0.27. There currently at 0.37, do you think it will go past .45 - .50?
When should I sell?

^ Well there are a couple schools of thought out there:

1- You never go broke taking profit
2- Pigs get slaughtered
3- Dont leave money on the table

In your situation, I think you have hit a pretty solid profit. 37% is a great return. Of course it may go to .50, but it may also go to .20.

I would personally probably sell- its a nice gain. You may want to sell half and let the rest ride it out. Its all about your investing strategy and style.

If GRW, CMX, and APV all have significate movement upward in the next couple weeks I would be smiling. Long term APV should be good. Short term all of these might swing.

CMX should go up tomorrow again and people dont want to be left out come Monday incase of news release or halt.

APV...contract should be huge. 500+ million contracts jsut arent handed out to ANYONE.

Market opened high on APV and dropped almost back to where it was. Seems to be hovering now though in the $2.15 area. Did you buy it at open at $2.40?

Rat, did you sell your CMX?

I am still holding. I think that if you can get shares below .40 you are okay again IMO. You should see the depth for it only about 36,000 shares on the ask from .415-.47

What do you all think about AMS?

Yah, I sold my 6500 shares at .35 this morning.

Quote from KeithOmalley:

ok wow, i had almost 400,000 shares of cfc today on the bloomberg news. I think this may be a record almost $800,000. my p/l is the top number, my buying power is below.

Isn't it? I mean, damn...that's unbelievable! More luck then skill, because he didn't know the news was coming out, but still...

Could you imagine if he was short? :nut:
