Did you see that guy they had on BNN the other day with Amanda Lang? He was saying it should be a 30 cent stock.
Everyone on stockhouse got so pissed off about that, someone even wrote into BNN and complains and Amanda read it out on the air

i just covered at 26.5X
You're the technical guy - All i'm doing is watching the moving average. When it breaks out in one direction or another i'm shorting it or buying it.
Seems to work for a few cents or a buck but I'm too scared to hold onto the short after the close. TIM opens all over the place

Right at the top of it's channel. It's hard shorting stocks with so much blind enthusiasm behind them, though. Especially if the story is really promising.
Check out T.RVX and what happened there.

Any of you guys know of a service that will e-mail me as soon as new NR's become available in the stocks I'm interested in? I've tried it with Stockhouse but I've found that the NR's are usually posted a lot later than some sites not to mention I've been getting junk e-mail after signing up for the notification feature with SH. All I want is NR's to be e-mailed to me for the stocks that I own/am interested in.

Hmmmm
So we are approaching 13900 on the TSX. Any thoughts on whats going to happen?
TA anyone?
I know its kind of selfish but I'm kind of hoping for another big crash.
I'm going to start diversifying out of gambling on the venture into buying some dividend paying large caps and I need another big drop in the markets to get in in a meaningful way.

Oil will probably blast through 110, and gold is on the rise as well (Along with other commodities).
If these continue to rise, they will only drag the market higher. If the financials stop sucking ass maybe we will see some added stability.

I'm looking at GUL again
They are at a 52 week low right now. 10 Cents for what was trading at 80 cents a year ago seems pretty good to me
The well they just drilled (See maria prospect with PetroCanada) hit a 60 foot zone of 35 API oil. Drilled in the same area as a previous PC well that produced 6500 BOPD.
I think the market is treating it badly because the well was plugged off, instead of put into production, but that was always the plan according to GUL and the pther Venture partners. So right now PC is going to figure out what do and they will start drilling again soon and GUL will have secured their 8% interest in anything they find there.
Also Lundin is finishing the seismic on Quad30 block. GUL fully funded this and based on results Lundin expects to be drilling by fall.
Seems like there will be another financing soon, but not at these prices. The CFO told me they are going to get news out to the market first so everything is priced in before they do another placement.
SO i bought a couple today to tuck away for later this year.

:dunno:
Power E*TRADE Pro is a good day trading platform and transferring money back and forth to your bank is easy. Also, Etrade offers a FAR better interest rate on the money you're not using over regular banks.
I stopped using TD because their conditions for active trader status were outrageous and if you didn’t qualify, their commissions was INSANE. They had no in-between status. You either had 100,000 in your account and made 10000000 trades/quarter, or you’re fucked. So I told them to fuck off and got etrade. No problems since. I also got 100 free trades which was nice and saves a good chunk of cash right off.

3 monitors is perfect IMO. You could even get away using just 2 if you got 24"-26". More isnt always better if it's just random clutter you're pulling up.

Yeah :werd: x 1000.
For the money I was charged to make one sell last year, I could have payed for my entire questrade platform with level 2 for the entire year. I was also turned off by the all or nothing conditions.
So far Questrade as been pretty good to me and is also cheaper than E Trade.

Its really easy to get around this. For every trade that is 2000 dollars or less its 29.95. Then anything over that you will pay more.
So instead of buying 100,000 shares at once i would buy 5 orders of 20,000, pay the same commision but get credit for 5 trades. I just went nuts one day and flipped some volume to get my 30 trades.
you only need 30 trades per quarter for 9.99/trade.
and you have more than 3 months to maintain that 30 trades too
ALSO
Active trader is 100/month for the platform but that includes all the Level 2 and real time so you're not paying extra for exchange fees
For me it was a good deal because I stopped paying 100/mth to Globe n Mail for my Level 2

I could make 90 trades through E-trade for that amount, and big money trades making good cash instead of wasting time squeaking out 30 cheap trades to get to a point where I can efficiently use my money.
I was told through TD that my first month or 2 with them would have to be "under review" paying full commissions until they decide whether I qualify for active trader status (unless I open it with 100K). That month or 2 of paying full commissions will probably pay for a year or more worth of commissions through E-trade.
I really only need a platform that executes my trades quickly.
For those of you with E-trade, how fast is your order execution? What is the longest you have had to wait for a market order to go through?
TD is direct market access where as E-Trade isnt?? I think your order gets routed to a MM first by E-Trade and thats how they make their coin via commisions that way... I'm not totally sure though so don't quote me
Also if you qualify for the second level of active trader you dont pay anything for the platform or exchange fees. So all you pay is 7.99/trade and everything else is free.
I'm not trying to defend it or sell it but i did get frustrated with them myself trying to get it running and I felt I should share. For me its nice to see my mortgage, bank accounts, trading accounts etc all on one happy green and beige screen. :)

i get instant order executions with etrade. If the trade takes longer than 10 seconds it's free i believe. However, in the hundreds of trade's i've made, not ONCE has my trade taken that long. It's always pretty much instant.
Everything in their platform is included. Real time charting, level 2 etc. You don’t pay extras for different services. Their top platform has everything you'd ever need included.
A nice feature as well is that they also have a nice web based platform that you can use from anywhere and from any computer should the situation arise. You can also trade extended hours, not sure if TD lets you do that.
Another great thing about etrade is that you will start out at $6.99 trade commission. Think about it. 100 free trades at the $9.99 rate which end up being free. Then after that you automatically qualify for the 6.99 rate before you even have to pay anything out of your pocket. Their rates also have no lot limits which is nice. 10 shares or 1 million shares. Same price.

I switched from TD to etrade too and have been satisfied. Hooking up bank accounts is easy and trading on etrade is easy too.
TD was easier to trade with but once you figure out etrade its the same thing if not faster. Trade wise any market order I have ever put through was filled before I refreshed the page so like 1 second.
Other than that you can get real time quotes through your account in etrade where as TD you can not. TD is delayed 15 minutes and final closings aren't updated for mutual funds until 10pm the same trading day...atleast thats what happens to my account.
Etrade is good for customer service. Longest ive waited on hold is 20 minutes and that was tax season.

Rat,
I don't own any shares right now but I have been keeping an eye on it since it was brought up. Wishing I picked up some shares when it dipped in the low 20's a few days ago.
I would say there is good potential here because a company wouldn't spend up to $500,000 for fracing two zones unless they thought they could make it back.
Assuming the frac goes as planned and all the sand gets placed we can look at some nearby wells to look at potential production.
Nearby wells are mostly Montney which is an oil zone.
2-6m3/d oil with some solution gas.
decline looks relatively flat.
high water cuts though: 50-80%, with the 80% wells on the lower side of production. Some wells with 40% WCT came on at 12 m3/d oil and are at 6-7m3/d right now after 2 years
I think if we see these wells come on in the high single digits with little water it will be a good sign.
I don't think they can get anything in because of break up so you're probably looking at June before more significant production tests can be done.
Stock could be quiet for now until they can report more test results.

I think the best bet would be a phone call or e-mail to see if they are actually able to move everything on site to do the fracs.
If so, then yeah I think we could potentially load up on possible news momentum.
I'm in the process of moving my account to TradeFreedom so I hope that will be done in time. Been out of the pennies in 2008 because of the commission costs.

my take on the current outlook.
!!Listen at your own risk!!
I think short term the US market is poised for a rebound. As technically gold is over bought, we see the Fed's 200 billion dollar injection to the market, S&P's signal that we are nearing end of write downs. Fed's aggressive rate cuts and today's Lehman and goldman sachs beating of Q1 expecation all seem to suggest a string of positive news is backing current market momentum.
Google (GOOG)
It has been seen and suggested that this web searh engine leader can survive a downturn in the market. If you look back in to 2001, while the market took a dive, Google has proven it can sustain its growth.
Key is price needs to close above 450.00 and onward to 550.00
Apple Inc. (AAPL)
With Ipod and Itouch and Iphone, I still believe they have strength for along time to come. Price needs to break and close above 130.00 to move higher towards 150.00 level.
Yahoo (YHOO)
With Microsoft's bid for take over and how Yahoo reiterate their strong target outlook and growth its a win win situation for them. As they either get a bigger bid from microsoft or standing alone. I see upside if price can remain above 26.00 dollars
Advance micro devices (AMD)
oversold and my pick as potentially a market mover. Price needs to close above 7.00 and towards 10.00. Also I'm hearing some rumor AMD is becoming a good buyout candidate and in such can you imagine with someone were to offer a bid for them? sure they are behind intel but with its potential for surprise, its latest HD 3800 series GPUs, the fight isnt finished until the fat lady sings. Their faster system bus has got to play a role in the new era of multi-core systems.
And yes, these 4 stocks are part of my holdings.
;)
I wonder who heard my advice, anyhow I'm out on apple and google. Yahoo i'm still holding for tomorrow's earning report which I believe should be a good one. AMD still has trouble technically, unless it can close above 6.50, other wise I may double my position in the 3-4 dollar range. forecast is suggestion at their current rate to turn profitable in Q3.
I'll be waiting on the side for other opporunities, NVIDIA looks good technically a buy now 17-19.
Starbucks is good too but i'll wait till it retest 16 dollars.
watching Nokia to fall to 25.00 then I'll say it would be a buy.
Dell as well if it is around 15.00.
Sandisk, which I actually got in at 21 dollars was a great buy at the time. But there was some risk to it since it was heavily oversold I had bought in on the pure fact technically it was sitting on its yearly support. who would of thought the sudden NAND price adjustment and demand would shoot this thing up 30%. technically it should have legs towards 33.80 as its first retracement level,

yes I trade with TD waterhouse but I find it is silly how in order to trade with a US account I have to first deposit or transfer/convert CAD to US funds. Otherwise if I purchase them using my CAD funds and , they would force me to convert back to CAD when I sell.
Anyways. I normally play the forex more often than the stock market, however given the recent slow down, there is alot of opportunity. So I couldnt help myself. I regret selling google and apple now, but I need to move my fund into other investments.

OK
So I'm trying my hand here at some TA. Fell free to rip me to shreds here guys :)
Just looking at the markets now... I posted a while back that the TSX was approaching that 13900 mark. We sort of bounced of it for about a week, consolidated a bit and then we broke through that level. To me that signalled that the index would head to the next resistance level.
I see the next level of resistance around 14600. I think we closed around 14400 today. Tomorrow the BOC anounces the monetary policy and its widely expected we will see a 0.5% rate cut. I think tomorrow will be an interesting day.
So Heres what I think again
The 200 Day moving average is still ia downtrend, but the 50 day is moving up. If the 50 day breaks through the 200 day we have a good chance the markets are going to go higher?
If it cant make it, I'm going to start shorting again me thinks, but not if we consolidate like we did at 13900.
I'm looking at the DJIA and its going up approaching the 200 day MA, the 50 is also starting an upturn.
I should really just buy a book and try and figure this stuff out for real. :banghead:

20-30%/year? Really, thats safe? WOW, would love to see your portfolio, cause if you are making those kind of gains every year you should quit your day job and trade full time.

I was just about to say that. If you can avg returns at 20-30% definitely setup your own hedge fund. :D

it broke thru the technical flag so currently support at around 69-70 holding well. next stop towards 80. I think there will be some heavy sell off there (including myself)

you dont need to call me BS or genius, im a technical trader, I dont make calls, I simply place buy and sell stop when market breaks out. notably the GBP/USD as they typically move 200-250 pts a day. if you work down the averages, your gain outperforms loss. it took me freakin 3 years to figure out the right numbers. the only bad thing is, you have to play every night and market doesnt start until 2am calgary time. so its alittle exhusting when I have a day job at the moment.
Stock similary, I see opporunity in past few weeks. I dont trade often only when market took such a nose dive, I realize there are many stocks oversold and technically has found a bottom (short tmer anyways) just cashing in on the obvious.

Yeah I have a friend who works with FX traders. Sometimes you get some significant losses but they have worked out a system that worked for them. I should have put some $ with them instead of going with some of the pennies.

EDIT, changed my outlook, BWR is going down down down. haha
BWR tracks the ZINC spot price spot on.

Doesn't look like ZINC is getting any better any time soon though:

20-30% on what size of account? ;)
The question is, is your strategy scalable? Can you trade the same method with 100 lots as you can with 1 lot?

ok here are some of my views of the current market.
I notice technically the US dollar index is in a verge of a breakout, couple with the fact that gold prices has broke a short term uptrend, its currently crashing towards it nearterm low at 872 if this does not hold it will crash towards its 50% fibonacci retracement which is around 820-830
when both of the above happens, the US market will have a strong rebound. Whether this is short or long term I cannot comment. But definately an opporunity for a short run here.
If everyone recall, when USD/CAD was at its peak it was round 1.62 and since did not look back as it crashed to 0.91 now I see the same setup with the Euro/USD having to test 1.600 and has dropped 350 points. would this be a repeat with heavy selling? Dont forget 61.8% is the 3rd and last level of fib retracement
I see USD/CAD technically to hold at par 1.000 and a breakout towards 1.0800 level when it passes 1.0300
For stocks,
I will be doing some range trading with Sirius Satellite (SIRI) between 2.30-3.30 as they are in the process of waiting for FCC approval for their pending merger with XM. You will notice this stock has been moving in this range for the last few weeks.
Other range trading are Flextronics (FLEX) 9.10-13.10 with potential towards its price target of 15 dollars.
Technical opporunity I see Nvidia (NVDA) forming a double bottom a close above 21.00 would be bullish and towards 25.75 its 1st Fib retracement level.
If you were in on Visa (V) I did at 59.00 I would hold till the earning report comes out at the end of April. technically again it has form a support in the 69-70 area and looks like a bullish flag broken with legs to run up towards 80.00 for the short term I would profit around 79 and wait for a dip towards 70 to buy back.
Others to note.
I notice starbucks released bad earnings/forecast which tanked the price further towards 15.39, this is also a 61.8% last level of fib retracement. So either this level will hold for long term if it doesnt hold it will crash further to low 10s. I myself have place a buy at 15.27. If they moves towards low 10s, I would double my position. This is a good stock that has a big name with every reason to rebound in the long hual.
With gold prices dropping so is Yamana Gold (AUY) it has broken a support level and on its way to its nearterm low of 11.57. I doubt this will hold. There fore I will wait till it reaches around 8-9 dollars. I believe once this US rebound peaks, there will be alot of profit taking. We are in a side ways market.
In the same sense I would look at buying spot Gold when it also reaches into the 800-850 terriory.
Other stocks I'm waiting in on are
Nokia looking at around 25
Dell around 15-17
AMD in the 4-5

I only have 32000 shares.
I'm not gonna do anything with them. Just sit. I'm sure in a few years they'll do something and their stock price will go up again. Who knows...
Another shitty pick.

VMS looking really attractive at these prices. They have lots of cash, experienced management, low geopolitical risk and a mineable deposit, with assays from hole 36 pending. I picked up another 10k today at .51 to bring my average down.
Should be good for a nice gain from here. Buy when there is blood on the streets I guess.

It's funny that people mention RSG and CMX. My portfolio was doing fairly decent until I started visiting this thread to often...... and I went heavily into CMX and RSG..... meanwhile exiting my long-term position in GCE.TO.
Well.... I should have trusted my judgement more, as RSG and CMX took a nosedive and GCE.TO turned into a 6 bagger.... :nut:
My own fault.....:banghead:
Slowly working my way back, and now holding tight to GCA.
