I notice technically the US dollar index is in a verge of a breakout, couple with the fact that gold prices has broke a short term uptrend, its currently crashing towards it nearterm low at 872 if this does not hold it will crash towards its 50% fibonacci retracement which is around 820-830

when both of the above happens, the US market will have a strong rebound. Whether this is short or long term I cannot comment. But definately an opporunity for a short run here.

If everyone recall, when USD/CAD was at its peak it was round 1.62 and since did not look back as it crashed to 0.91 now I see the same setup with the Euro/USD having to test 1.600 and has dropped 350 points. would this be a repeat with heavy selling? Dont forget 61.8% is the 3rd and last level of fib retracement

I see USD/CAD technically to hold at par 1.000 and a breakout towards 1.0800 level when it passes 1.0300

For stocks,

I will be doing some range trading with Sirius Satellite (SIRI) between 2.30-3.30 as they are in the process of waiting for FCC approval for their pending merger with XM. You will notice this stock has been moving in this range for the last few weeks.

Other range trading are Flextronics (FLEX) 9.10-13.10 with potential towards its price target of 15 dollars.

Technical opporunity I see Nvidia (NVDA) forming a double bottom a close above 21.00 would be bullish and towards 25.75 its 1st Fib retracement level.

If you were in on Visa (V) I did at 59.00 I would hold till the earning report comes out at the end of April. technically again it has form a support in the 69-70 area and looks like a bullish flag broken with legs to run up towards 80.00 for the short term I would profit around 79 and wait for a dip towards 70 to buy back.

Others to note.
I notice starbucks released bad earnings/forecast which tanked the price further towards 15.39, this is also a 61.8% last level of fib retracement. So either this level will hold for long term if it doesnt hold it will crash further to low 10s. I myself have place a buy at 15.27. If they moves towards low 10s, I would double my position. This is a good stock that has a big name with every reason to rebound in the long hual.

With gold prices dropping so is Yamana Gold (AUY) it has broken a support level and on its way to its nearterm low of 11.57. I doubt this will hold. There fore I will wait till it reaches around 8-9 dollars. I believe once this US rebound peaks, there will be alot of profit taking. We are in a side ways market.

In the same sense I would look at buying spot Gold when it also reaches into the 800-850 terriory.

Other stocks I'm waiting in on are
Nokia looking at around 25
Dell around 15-17
AMD in the 4-5

As expected the dollar index closed above a crital resistance, and with the DOW and drop of gold price. All pointing towards a real US dollar rebounce.

In the mean time, all eyes are on Visa's 1st ever Q1 report since the IPO. i see Visa to run up to around 77 dollars and if the report is google like, it could crush thru onto 90 dollar instantly. I will cash out by then (if you have got in in the high 50s) then look for a pull back and invest long term.

update
on my watch list

Flextronic which was trading as low as 9.11 2 weeks ago.

Now sitting at 10.56, recently just beat estimate on their earnings. Price target has been risen from 13 to 13.50 from one analyst.

I see this to move towards 13-14 dollar range.

Good 30% gain if you want to range trade this.

Garmin just came out with bad numbers and stock down 13% to 40 ish.

If it drips to 30-35 I would consider picking up some as they have a positive outlook, this is for longer term play.

AMD at 6.0 dollar not much action waiting this to dip to 4-5 otherwise stay away.

NVDA is a high risk high reward still around 20.50 dollars on the verge of breakout or a collasp back to retest low at 17.00, earnings out May2nd I believe. So if you’re a gambler if Q1 number are strong this will at least touch 25 dollars. But definitely a very good long term stock to own if you feel the economy is health in 3-5 years/

LDK at around 32-33 would be a buy

CAF is at 48. already up20% hopefully it will drop back to low 40 then I would jump in myself too

If you don’t mind about being expensive even google poped to 578 now. Still be good buy as it will move towards 650 if you have guts.

Gold looks like going to break 866 should move towards 840-850 which I will buy spot gold and last support at 750. For stock AUY is at 12.50, if drop to 8-10 dollars good buy for long term. When US rally is finish you should see this back up 15+

Dell at 18.90 coming down nicely, looking at 15-17

NOK only down to 28 and now back to 30.50 suck, only 25 or lower is great buy

Starbucks missed at 15.39 (I almost buy at 15.27) now at 16.41. if it drip to 15.27 or lower I would buy some for long term growth. 2-5 years (china is where it will grow)
However if you want short term gain then wait for starbucks to collasp to 10 dollar other wise look at other stocks above instead.

Gold has hit a 50% retracement around 850.

good level 1 entry here. (I did)

possible that it may reach further down to 790-800 last fib retracement which I will double my position.

otherwise looking at 850-950 range short term

Nvidia technically has broken a 123 bottom, a close above 21 dollar will be bullish towards 25

the Loonie has broken a short term down trend and is on the move towards 1.03 a break above this would be bullish towards 1.09

Visa for those who held it from day one. Congradulation.

Tought I do feel some sort of pull back may come its way but future looks bright. and here are my reason for holding visa long term.

1 Strong US dollar (dollar index has rebounded)
2 Weak Gold prices (technically its on a downtrend)
3 Visa soon to be listed in a major index fund
4 Master card's strong numbers further shows strength in this business. MA and Visa compliment each other
5 Visa as 9 out of 12 analyst coverage rating a buy
6 Visa IPO bank holding class b/c share cannot sell until october, plenty of time to move higher. Look at Mastercard, they redemption period was in december which then dip 16% but still keep moving higher
7 Pure greed as physchologically everyone believes this stock to be in triple digit catagory.
8 People who have less faith in other markets will invest heavily in Visa as safe haven.
9 Visa is quite immune to recession as either you spent because your wealthy or you spent becasue you need to get by food and gas
10 Visa is china olympic sponsors. Think about the 1.7 billion chinese and atheletes all going visa card.
I see strong growth suprises in 09
11 Visa is not affected by risk of consumer debt as they only make money thru transaction not via loan
12 Visa has alot of room for cost cutting and can boost their profits in coming quarters.
13 People who missed Google and Mastercard will not make a 3rd mistake. Hence, this stock is being traded irrationally. Like one analyst said, I rather be irrational and rich than logical and poor
14 Visa only has 2% insitute holdings. And when more money comes in. Visa will be more stable and will grow steadily. All analyst look at Visa as a growth stock for many years to come.
15 Recent Run will no doubt force all short seller aside until it is stable. and by the time it is stable the stock will not be significantlly impacted by them. Plus. short seller ration is lower with V than it is Mastercard. And you dont see Mastercard dropping like a brick do you?
16 Typically a good strong company that gets to 80.00 share price tends to move to 100 and beyond.
17 Recent economic data in March shows Consumer spending is up. Tell me, what that translate for visa

Other potential reason that further fuel Visa's value
-Visa may initiate a stock buy back.
-Visa lawsuit settlement is the last obsticle they have to overcome
-Visa may buyout discover or alliance with american express
-banks holding IPO may not have to sell in october. Bank knows how much visa charge them hence they get better return by holding on to visa
-US recession coming to an end.

Note. Like warren buffet said about cocacola, if you give him 100 billion dollars to bring cocacola down, he says you cant do it. Similarily you cant brand down Visa. Visa is the biggest name of them all in this business.

I see a couple plays on my list are setting up for possibilities of small 5-10% flips but nothing is really screaming at me to load the boat and sit yet.

Anyone recommend some penny stock pending news soon that I can bully around a little bit?....... something sitting just under a wall of shares on the ask that would need about 30K to set free to suck some greedy sheep in and let some mass panic run ensue?

IXS comes to mind- it has run up to .40 twice in the past few months from around these levels and is waiting on news from Royal Pharma on the possibility of another $15 million royalty payment- lots of speculation and hype around it. Currently at .28 and when it runs the volume and buying seems to pick up pretty decent. I am waiting for a fill at .27. 30k would probably take it up to mid 30s.

update.

Nvidia earnings coming out this week I believe. I still say its a good cheap stock to own with only 12x forward earnings and zero debt.

Gold price did bounce off 850 level. now at 870.0 lets see if it does reach 900-950 so I Can double my money. =]

Visa stock price surprised me how bullish it performs. With this week the market has been mostly red and Visa still finds a way to creep higher each day. If your long like I did back in the 50s. Then lets ride this to the moon. 1-2 year is a long time

I see some good picksup with IMAX with a couple of big blockbuster like speedracer and dark knight. IMAX is posied for some turnaround. anything near or below 7 dollar is good buy towards 11

Divx also recently beat estimate I would sink my teeth in this one if it can drop to near or below 8 dollars. for a quick movement towards 12

Watch for Dell and Starbucks as they are both re-approaching their 52 week low. If you can buy and hold for a few years. These one will shine at current price levels

LDK unfortunately I saw it coming when it was sitting near 30.50 and I didnt pull the trigger. Now at 36 with earnings on May 12. I guess I will try my luck that it will somehow drop like a brink so I can get in.

CAF Morgan stanley China a US stock investment with company overseas. It follow closely to the shanghai composite index which I have great faith it will rebound and do well in coming years. I would consider this another long term if it can be had near low 40

;) ok time to eat

Somebodies dun bought the entire wall at 0.09 for about 300,000 shares and that sounds just like your style.

Meanwhile ask is 0.10 and bid is 0.09 for only 15k shares and then it's back down to the 0.085 level.

Quebecor World shareholders might be in a for a bit of a rough ride. I've been watching it the last few days as it has been going up from .21 to .27 range, and then it dropped 2 cents today closing at .24.

However, Quebecor World released news after market close about a near *1 BILLION* dollar loss this year. LMAO.

As if the shares weren't already completely worthless. I think you might be able to buy shares tomorrow morning for just a few pennies. It will be interesting to watch, and those who like to take big risks might be able to scoop up a lot of IQW shares on the cheap.

Will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Obviously the sweet paint lines are from me.

I see this thing breaking out on volume, or selling off out of the wedge, or of course staying flat waiting on news.
What else can it do right? haha

Of course if the TSX sells off from its all time high I think pretty much everything is going to feel the pain, but if oil and gas keep on moving this week I think everything will run some more.

Thoughts? Comments? Flames?

Hey all, so i am a first time stock player, and I have some questions I hope can be answered.

I bought shares in AMD at 5.95, not much but I figure if I walk away with 100 profit I will be happy. Thing is, should I hold them till they go higher, or sell now, for me I am leaning towards holding.

I also bought a whack of shares with BUF, at .33 and I keep loosing money, but I figure if they actually hit a vein I might be rich. What are the chances it will skyrocket in the near future??

anyways, this whole stock thing is weird. If I sell my shares, CIBC takes 3 days to do so? Or can I seel the same day?

I know what I have asked is all speculation, and almost impossible to gauge, but I was wanting to get some opinions.

Thanks

If you sell/buy shares, it basically takes 2-3 days for the money to change hands, but you will get, or sell the shares at the price, as soon as the order is processed and filled.

Coal prices have skyrocketed in the last 6 months. All producing coal companies are raking it in right now.

I thought it was done at around 3-4 but it continued to jump up. WTN.TO and FDG-UN.TO have also done very well lately.

Not sure if anyone listens to my thoughts, I guess everyon wants to make the quick bucks with penny stocks. Anyhow I'll just do my thing.

if you have bought Nvidia, you would be up about 20% by now. I have taken my profits already and will invest my money else where.

Gold is currently sitting around 900 dollars. that was an easy 50 dollars. It may shoot higher but we may see more side ways action now.

Dell has already gone up about 16% and starbucks was a great buy below 16.00 I manage to pick up some right before they announce a hedge fund stake and now still 17+ I will continue to hold this to about 19-20

LDK unfortunately I didnt play this one as I saw it at 31 for the longest time. Now sitting at 40 =[

Same with Garmin which I knew it was a good buy at 40 dollars. unfortunately money dont grow on trees another opporunity missed as it is still hit 50 last week.

Still lots of good value stock. If you remember my advice back a month or two ago. AMD was a good pick if you are a risk taker and if you have you would be sitting pretty good it has gone up 15% and they will return to profibility in Q3-Q4 which I can see this stock back in the teens.

IMAX was a good buy around 7 as I suggested. now they are at 7.50 and once dark knight hits imax and many of the new digital screens hit the theathers. Long term you will also see this in the teens as well.

divx was also great, they upgraded their own forecast and iwhile it as around 8.40 now it hit as high as 10.00

Visa you will see side way movement between 80-90 for a while. I manage to get in at 59 and will hold this till 09 the least.

I'm looking at other plays like seagate technology STX now around low 20.0 I may get into this one technically it can be back to 24.0 I've got some money to play now that I sold my sanDisk last week profited 52%, and nvidia this morning 25%

I will monitor Dell, Wzen, CAF, LDK, and hope any significant pull back and I get back in.

cheers,

ya, I think it's profit taking, plus a lot of the shale gas plays are stagnant or in the red today. Seismic data should be out soon, plus I've been hearing about Talisman updating reserve estimates for the quebec area so there could be more of a boost. I sold the majority of my PCQ shares at 1.04 to 1.07 today. Sitting on 25K between 2 accounts still.

I like it. It might settle a bit lower before they get their permit approvals but I bought in at .80 and .81 to guarantee my seat. WGF management are buddies with GXS and apparently they both got their applications in first, ahead of the rush. WGF is also based out of Saskatoon so they are pretty close to the action. WGF's land is directly adjacent to GXS's land....whereas a lot of the other plays don't even mention where they are exactly (probably because they aren't close but just trying to ride the bandwagon).

Here's part of the last news release from WGF. 240,000 hectares works out to just under 600,000 acres of land.

SASKATOON, May 14 /CNW/ - Wescan Goldfields Inc. (WGF: TSX-V) ("Wescan") is pleased to announce that it has applied for an extensive package of coal dispositions in the east central area of Saskatchewan. Coal permit applications covering approximately 240,000 hectares were submitted in April, in accordance with the Coal Disposition Act of Saskatchewan, immediately following the announcement of a significant coal discovery in that region. Wescan is currently in the process of acquiring a letter of comfort from Saskatchewan Energy and Resources and Wescan will promptly report upon receipt of this letter. The receipt of any actual dispositions and permits will be dependent upon regulatory approval and related time requirements to process the applications.

Wescan applied for coal dispositions adjacent to and partially surrounding the coal discovery made by Goldsource Mines Inc. ("Goldsource"), which was announced by Goldsource on April 22, 2008. The near surface intersections discovered by Goldsource were made in two holes targeting kimberlite spaced 1.64 kilometres apart in an area 50 kilometres north of Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan.

Thank you, these were the exact same thoughts that I had from a co-worker. Im just clarifying what he said.
