Seconded on Apple. Outlet store just opened here in Calgary, and demand for their products is still strong. Their fan base is incredible.

What a lot of people are recognizing is the amount of market share they're gaining. The generation who grew up with Apple will most likely return to Apple in the future for a new computer/accesory purchase. Repeat customers FTW!

I hope so, unless I have load of cash then investing at current levels isnt bad at all if I can hold for 6 months out. But since cash is tight because im playing gold and visa. I'll wait.

who knows im hoping oil could hit 85 as a divergence and form a solid support. Then its all up from there,

the only thing I worry is that if the banks decided to sell their visa share to raise capital that could be bad.

So there is a down side risk to it. Which the way I see it is opportunity to add to my position. Since I dont think visa is the type of company that will disappear, in fact few years from now, Visa will be one of those big names you hear every quarter (not that they havent already been mention all the time)

So looks like the 700b bill is going to pass. Welcome to a lower dollar ;)

I`m very curious how this will affect Gold. One would think it should further the bullish gold trend based on its link to the US dollar, but some may view this bailout as a stabilizer and therefore move out of save havens and back into the equity markets as a whole.......

so whats now boys, gold or oil?

looks like oil is coming down hard after unable to beat the 110 resistance.

anything at or below 100 I 'll be looking to load up.

Visa is about to open below 60.00 that will be interesting one as well. Could Visa test its 52 week low at 55? or how bout retesting its IPO price at 44?

let see one position at 60, one at 55 and one at 50 then 45 I'll set those as my buy limit.

for me, as long as gold continues to be above 850-857 (now) I still see it as bullish.

How are you guys trading?? thru e-trade?? I have been following stocks for the last 2-3 months to get a hang of it, and I think finally I might want to get in these deals. I only have about 12-15k to play with. What bank/website would give me the lowest trading fees?

I've been following this thread for quite some time as well. Thanks so much to all the posters here. Lots of good info!
I am opening an account through Q-trade with about 15k to play with. Q-trade looks pretty user friendly and has relatively low fees. Not sure if it is the preferred broker; I believe credential direct is popular as well.

Speaking of gold: what do you trade? IAU? IGT? XGD? or gold company stocks? I'm pretty bearish on it right now.
Same goes for oil: I've been following USO for a bit. Might jump on that soon.

natejj

Got into USO today at 79.42. I'm pretty happy with that.

As for gold, I'm taking the high risk approach and playing the juniors. My pick right now is TSX:SKV

This will be a long term hold. It was only 3 months ago or so when this was in the 70's

Hence, I would not invest in stocks. It's a risky business and nothing is a "sure thing".

rent an apartment. Buy $5000 in gold/ silver, buy a $200 TV from a pawn shop and a $100 used mattress to sleep on. The rest keep in Cash and save. Don't buy anything you don't really need. If you need a car, buy a 1992 Civic.

The decision right now IMO is not hard at all. It's a no brainer. Don't waste your cash.

I agree but if one doesnt have a clue what company to invest. Then start picking funds in different sector.

personally I think the US is finished. Even if stock was to get back on track, the upside will be limited. my suggestion is plug away at the asia market. They have loads of cash, and when the dust settles the future is bright.

China's index has fallen back to earth and in the 2000s, you would wonder how much room it can grow again compare to DOW's 10000 pts.

From my expert friends the bottom is about in with these funds. love to see the firework today when the market opens over there.

My savings that I have is just what I have up to today. I will have more savings as the paycheques keep coming. Financially, my parents have my back, but this market is too attractive. Dang

the chit chat on Fast Money today on CNBC is making me scared.

Republicans are not going to vote for this bailout bill.

HOwever, the light at the end of the tunnel here is that the democrats may pass the bill on their own without the republicans in a revote on Thursday.

Now what happens between then and now could be pretty intense.

I got Cramer was saying that he did a market analysis on valuations etc, and found that the DJIA could go as low as 8500 if this bill fails....

Spreading $10K over 4 different things is like taking a packet of jam and spreading it over 4 pieces of toast. Congrats. Why wouldn't you put it on two and ENJOY it. If you had $1000, would you split that into $250 and invest that? trading costs and fees would eat you up let alone the premiums on odd lots.

Take it down the middle 50/50 and put it into the best two ideas.

Things doesn't HAVE to happen and things that are unexpected.. do. Where was the last person that said "AIG will be in trouble"? They would've been laughed at 1 year ago. Based on the consumption levels of the past and our current dependence on commodities like Oil, it SHOULD go up. There has been a huge disconnect in prices over the last bit.. not just with stock prices but with the dollar/gold/oil/markets scenario. stock prices does not directly reflect the price of oil.. but on the current management of the company as well. High Capex (capital expenditures), labor, heck.. high amounts of water than expected can set prices back short term. A bad executive team can take a well established company down in no time.

Couple of key companies along with Suncor... TransCanada Pipelines, Encana, EPCOR Power, Shaw Communications.

Take it down the middle 50/50 and put it into the best two ideas.

Huh... :nut: Sure you want to minimize admin costs, but at $9 a trade, a $2.5k investment is just fine. The stock only needs to move .32% to cover one trade (open or close).....

Where can you get 9$/trade without making a minimum number of trades or having a minimum balance?

I'm going to do something very foolish.

Keep buying little bits here and there of companies I like at fantastic discounts until Thursday.

I think pres Bush will be addressing the nation tomorrow morning, and I also think that this bill is going to pass on Thursday one way or another after the Jewish holiday.

Just 12 days ago, Cramer was saying Wachovia was a strong buy.

He's not the demigod everyone makes him out to be.

You're right he's not the be all end all in the stock market. But what he says makes sense. But what else is interesting is that millions of people watch him everyday. And those same millions of people are going to be doing something int he markets this week.

Finally CNBC just stopped live air at 11pm Eastern, im going to watch his show right now and see what he says.

Apparently Futures are trading higher right now. Might be a bit of a bounce tomorrow morning

Cramer says:

You should have been listening to him (like I did) and been selling into the rallies over the last couple weeks and be sitting on cash so you can buy companies that:

1.) Does not need to borrow money (ie avoid credit crunch)
2.) Makes a product that everyone buys (ie colagte, keloogs etc..)
3.) Has come down at least 5-8%, start to make a position

Make a list of all companies on the S&P that yield over 4-5% with safe dividends that meet the above criteria

Buy little bits on the way down.

Cramer thinks we can tank to 8200 on the DOW

Cramer says buy gold

Cramer says stuttering boo yah to yah

Viewer email:
"You had the CEO of Wachovia on who looked in the camera and said that Wachovias model was sound, and there was only 10 billion in bad loans"

Cramer:
Admits that CEO lied and there was actually 42 billion. Goes into how CEO bought 16 million of stock in open market. Perhaps CEO was actually confused. Perhaps he lied. Cramer is furious because he was friends with this guy for 25 years. Now he is on the wall of shame.

About V and MA:
Don't buy V, sell MA. Been saying sell on MA for a long time now. Its not recession proof, its actually a play on consumers. Consumers are going to be hurting thus less transactions and less profits for these stocks.

millions of people watch cramer and do the exact opposite

he's been getting wronger and wronger over time and everyone reaches a point where they realize that that many wrongs don't make a right and stop watching.

^ Yup. Cramer sucks and some students analyzed his track record and he's basically 100% terrible. The only thing he's good at is backpedalling.

He may have good concepts and overall ideas (who doesn't?), but I'll never take any of his specific advice, ever.
