I can't decide damn it. Hindsight, if I put up a sell limit I would have cashed out for +$5000 min. today and could have easily re-bought on it's way down. Yeah right, way easier and better than actually working haha
LOL Oh well, I'm holding out for the 17th and how the market will react to the Saudi's cutting production. Maybe this will pave the way for a re-launch up to the $70-$80 oil area. Then I'll be :bigpimp: :bigpimp: :bigpimp:

Yep. Looks like it'll be a downer for sure tomorrow. If I had to guess, Oil will probably be down a $2-3 and you guys can get into HOU in the $3.20 range. Then I'm going to wish I took my profits at $3.70 today.
HOU is going to have to drop to $2.50 so probably $35 oil price before I even buy anymore. Funds are allocated for every $5 drop in the barrel price there after too. HOU is going to make or break my 2009. I'm trying to avenge everything lost in 2007 and 2008 hahaha.

You're really sticking your neck out on the line with this prediction. ;)
Nikkei down 554, US futures down 360
I wouldn't be surprised if there is big annoucement early next morning. Might be something like they are going to dip into that 700 billion TARP fund, who knows.
But I think we will some sort of action before close.

Well, you're lucky if you're getting in now. RIM's the big stinker in the collection of stocks I'm holding at the moment. I bought back in October at around ~$63 (CDN) and it's been nowhere close to that since I bought it. :banghead:
I am soooo choked my SU order didn't fill last friday. I missed with my buy limit by about 20-25 cents. D'oh! I had $10k ready to drop on it, and had I bought it I definitely would've sold when I saw $28 this morning, if not $26-27. Double d'oh!

ok so both gold and oil finally came down just the way I saw it. Whether it will head lower is anyone's guess. since 830 gold didnt hold next is 808 which it did tested and currently holding above.
I will let my AUY position sit tight to see what happens. and save some cash on the side line in case 808 doesnt hold and it falls back to 780.0 but if 808 does come thru, I expect gold to break 830 once again and onto 850 (you are right, due to the fact HGU is risky if you pick the wrong place to get in, I'll save this play until gold does and only if it dips towards 750)
oil is coming down nicely after it completed it's 50% retracement from 55 to 40 and now is holding below its 200 day on the 1 hour which is bearish at the moment. next level should be testing 43 and if this breaks, it will no doubt retest the low around 40.50 and perhaps lower. The timing of the OPEC meeting next week will be important of course so get ready to take a position some time from now until next week if it does hit 40 or below.
I see the US dollar index pulled back sightly towards 84, I hope it can complete the retest of around 85 to signal a turn around since over all the US dollar had became bearish in my view.

anyways next week is a huge week, Opec, rate cut, and the fact that gold is becoming more bullish by the day.
I still firmly believe a huge rally is in the works. so if your waiting, buy what ever is cheap value wise and let it rip :)
I think oil as put in a temp bottom if not A bottom, so again anything near low 40 is good.

I bought YRI Thursday before close for $4.30. Will overseas being way down I was expecting a down day. This morning before my flight to Vancouver I put in a sell of $4.82 on YRI and it filled.
Also put in a buy on Oil at $1.95 (it was low as $1.82) and buy on HOU at $2.06. When I got to Vancouver I sold Oil at $2.15, and HOU at $2.28. Those two made me $1,000, not bad. HOU was high as $2.46. Can't complain considering I wasn't by the computer watching, Had to go for dim sum.
HOU, ELD, YRI and probably others have had interesting inter-day swings lately.
Now I don't have any gold stock in my portfolio and looks like it's bullish. Will see if I can pick up some on the next dip. Do have a bit of Oilexo and hoping for great news.

HOU 52 week low is 2.68 so I think you either have ticker symbol wrong or amount wrong. Or maybe your 2's should be 3's.
I was gonna buy some when it was at 2.86 but didn't. Hahahha. Cuz I needed the money for real life!! But I actually think buying HOU as a LONG play is a great idea. Cuz oil is going to go up and do crazy shit again at some point.

The next oil climb will be slow and will be from actual demand, and less so from speculators. We'll see $75 oil tops for 2009.
I'm just throwing my guess out there like every other "financial analyst". My guess is probably as good as theirs hehe.

yes which is good because the longer it takes to move the more opporunity to trade side ways
the next time it goes back to 200 is because of inflation after all 40 dollar oil price today does not equal 40 dollars price 10 years ago if you know what I mean,

Hold up...YRI was at $4.30 on thursday...wtf I have been watching that stock for months and have been kicking myself since i didn't get in on it when it was in the $4 range (instead I got in at 8.67 when gold was 800 and I thought I was getting a bargain lol).
And OIL is risky and I've heard they are up for sale, but the market has already anticipated that and I don't see further huge movement but I could be wrong. Man, once this oil thing gets sorted out...these junior oil companies are going to go crazy. I'm excited :D

as I saw it last week the US dollar index continues to swoon to new lows and it has no where to go but down to 80-82 range. The only thing it may or it can do is suddenly pull a retracement back to around 85 but over all view is bearish (which means) yes strength in the stock market, gold and even oil.
now is this week finally the big rally we have been waiting for? quite possibly so, as my expert friends suggested the lows last week was the best buying opportunity for the remainder of the year. For those that got in, get ready for some action. It could be a great week or a volatile week.
Rate cut, Opec, and also, all eyes on gold as we approach the end of the month, the closing window that many say or are trying to default the comex market may prove to be interesting.
technically suggested if gold doesnt do anything stupid or illogical like suddenly shooting a 100 dollars over night because of some sane decision that China started to accumlate reserve in gold or as many may fear or comex unable to deliver gold then Gold perhaps may still have at least one more fight below 800 (that would be my christmas present. anyhow my view still remains stronger than ever. I'm strong gold to 1400 ;)
and as far as oil, sure I missed the 40.50 bottom for oil. then again I knew a rally was in the works when I said last week the temporary bottom is in when it was around 43, how far this rally will go is anyone's guess chart wise, it sure looks like it is holding well and ready to take re-entry to 50's atmosphere. Could this be a buy on rumor (OPEC cut) and sell on news? we'll see, surely with such huge drop in demand and oil price this past few months, oil price will find plenty of time to form a solid bottom and support. So for those waiting on the sidelines, just be patient, just be ready when oil price does come around into the low 40s if not in the 30s. If anything 3 times make the charm, that would make my day.
tibit for the day: when the fed cut its rate down to 1% in 2001 during the tech crash, it ignited the bull run for gold. As of today, the fed rate is AT 1%, and this week's forcast calls for the fed to further cut 75 pts to 0.25% Hack, even if gold doesnt explode in my life time, it sure hell is a good way to say wealth preservation. the US green back has no where to go but down down down.

see you could have made 20%+ 3 times had you sell high 3, buy low 3s. Oil between 40-50 is doing exactly the same thing when it was trading beteen 49-55, now all eyes on that little so call uptrend line if that breaks, we are headed back to 41.
I want to see 40 and below if it starts hitting 35 or even 30 man I'll jump in like there is no tomorrow
anyways again one must have to see this is a day trader's heaven. the buy and hold doesnt work at the moment. Not unless you can stomach the swings daily.
The better way to do this would be to have multiple position where you can hold one for long and one for catching the swings. Anyways like I said, if oil ever hits 40 again or lower. Get ready for another chance to profit from the 10-20% swings in HOU
With this it has convinced me yet again to unwind all my gold shares (I got itchy and got back in late friday) took another 8% off the table this morning.
I want 800 or below gold price. One at 780 and one at 750 Then I can call it a year

Yeah I know EXACTLY what you mean but with my luck I would completely miss it. If I went with your method I would be easily +$15K on this stock but things are always 20/20 after they occur. So I prefer to have a long term approach to things. I can stomach the day to day swings and like you said, if it does drop below $40 which is around my average cost, I will load up like no other. HA!

Crescent Point Energy Trust (TSX: T.CPG.UN)
The oil and gas income trust, after Monday's closing bell, announced it has entered into an agreement, on a bought deal basis, with a syndicate of underwriters for an offering of 4,545,500 trust units at $22 per trust unit to raise gross proceeds of $100 million. The Trust also said it has acquired more than 4.3 net sections of undeveloped Bakken land at the December 8, 2008 Saskatchewan Crown land sale. Total consideration was approximately $12.5 million. In addition, Crescent Point reported that it has acquired a 17% ownership of Wild River Resources Ltd., a private oil and gas producer with assets in the southeast Saskatchewan Bakken light oil resource play.

How about TCK.B boys? I picked it up at 4 and it reached 6.3 yesterday. I'm a broke college student so I didn't have barely any money in there to begin with but that's 50% in a matter of a week.

I'm testing a new prediction technique using LEAP options and open interest information.
Based on this - T.ABX will be between $45 and $50 come mid january. Lets see how close I get :D

oil is continues to push lower, and below 43.61 would cause more weakness
I see a retest of 40
get your cash ready
not just at 40 but also if it suddenly heads for 35 and 30

Yep. The OPEC news is out where they are going to cut 2 million barrels and the market response is just 'meh'. LOL
Fack! Not the response I wanted but there is just no gauge on consumption right now and apparently demand is just not there. Ouch. A short rally and then a huge dump? Like you said, below $40? Cash is ready. I am however thinking of setting a sell order (in event of a spike) and then re-buying on the drop.

wow gold finally topped 855, this is also the top of a upward channel that was formed since hitting the 681 bottom.
The question is,
will this channel hold.
If it doesnt, gold will be testing 890-900 which is going to be the ultimate signal for Longs.
but if the market is as volatile as it did in the last few months, then gold (should) be held up at 850 and soon collasping back to about 780 and last stand at 750
It could be a coin toss here, do I want gold to drop, you bet. So is oil at 40 or below.
however the 75 pt rate cut today made history, because this will be the beginning of another bull run for gold.
the dollar index felt quite sharply down to 80.50 which should provide a temporary bottom then next is 76 and we are not far from the lows which if broken eventually will make you forget the dollar ever rallied.

Lol... i got rid of all my stocks with a profit within the last 2-3 weeks, but HOU is the one I have left. I follow about 20-23 stocks on a daily basis and all of them were in the green today except for HOU!... Can't believe it.

yeah I think I saw that but you gotta take what some of those guys say with a grain of salt....they are human, they make mistakes all the time, and most importantly, they have deals with the companies they own. If they own a company, they aren't exactly going to be bearish on it now will they?

:D:D :D
oh its only a matter of time, but would it be now, Im not so sure yet. 850 may hold and technically it can drop. I hope the huge swoon in the dollar index means there should be some sort of retracement that will bring gold price down to 800 or below.
then I will get fired up once again
oil also looks like it wants to at least test 40, if the OPEC cut is not as deep as some suggested, the news may very well push oil price down further after it tries to push up one last time.
:/ be interesting tomorrow

wow gold hit 880
didnt realize it would hit the upper area this fast and this soon Glad I bought some gold and silver bullion last week :)
but on the flip side. was hoping to buy more below 800 now its a wait and see. Gold better not break the 890-900 area this soon without one more wave down otherwise I'll have to say good bye to my cash that's set aside for gold and I'll double it up on oil

Yeah you're right. The 4.2 is including cuts they already made. They actually cut an additional 2.2
OPEC makes deep production cuts
GEORGE JAHN
11:07 EST Wednesday, Dec 17, 2008
ORAN, ALGERIA — The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries agreed on Wednesday to make its deepest output cut ever to counter slumping demand and falling oil prices, said the group's Secretary-General Abdullah al-Badri.
The 4.2 million barrels per day reduction in supplies is based on September production levels, he said.
The following are analysts' views on OPEC's decision.:
FRANK SCHALLENBERGER, HEAD OF COMMODITY RESEARCH, LANDESBANK
“OPEC agreed a 4.2 million (bpd) cut from September so it is about 2.2 million from now.”
“It is definitely more than expected. The market consensus ahead of the meeting was more or less 1.5-2.0 million. 2.2 million is the biggest cut and we can call it a big step.”
“If you look at the market, prices are going up immediately. I really think this is the end of a bear market. $40 was the bottom.”
GORDON GRAY ANALYST WITH COLLINS STEWART
“We believe the magnitude of OPEC's latest action reduces the risks of material further price downside significantly. However, given the still-substantial risks to demand and ongoing scepticism on OPEC compliance, it could take some time before prices recover materially above $50-55 per barrel.”
More to come
I can't wait to read all of the comments here.
