Ya, just saw this thread, sorry. But the one I saw today was green with a red interior, must be a different car.:dunno:

Wow, more than 1 in town! Crazy ballers yo.

From Wiki:
"Today, the 300SL with its unique doors, technological firsts, and low production numbers is considered one of the most collectible Mercedes-Benz models of all time, with prices reaching well past the US$650,000 mark. Sports Car International magazine ranked the 300SL as the number 5 sports car of all time. A pair of 300SLs for sale in 2009 are offered at $1.3M USD from the Foxwood Collection, demonstrating that the price of and demand for this classic remains strong."

Exact same one I saw. It was parked on Fifth Ave place during lunch (no camera on my phone).

Good Photo snipe shot. Was thinking the same thing didn't think there was one in Calgary. It had an Alberta plate too (custom).

FWIW this is actually a kit car. I knew the owner (green cap) a few years back and did the out of province inspection on the car.

Yup, but it is pretty well done. Full custom square tube chassis and drive train from an older 560SEL. Went pretty damn good and was a ringer on the outside. Inside wasn't the best, vinyl instead of leather and some pretty obvious bits from other models but most people would have no clue. Drew quite a crowd outside the shop and lots of rubber necking when on the road. Think of it as a tribute car rather than a kit car :)

There is a real 300SL gullwing in Calgary with pale grey exterior. It just had a full restoration complete and is flawless.

There are 3 of them in town. One is a rare and earlier competition version. The pictures in this thread are the two road cars.

That car is WELL beyond its years. I'd be the cockiest asshole in the world if I had one of those back in the 1950's:D

Im amazed anybody has the ilk to drive one of those cars, their a drivable diamond mine in terms of value.
