Can someone recommend a good product to get surface rust off your brakes? I tried some stuff today but it didn't do much, it got a bit off but i don't think it was really strong enough to do the trick.

Thanks

just drive it, the rust will come off no problem

For calipers, you might just have to take them off and repaint.

If you try a product on them, be careful to not get any on your rotors or pads, as you can potentially contaminate the pads.

brake pad will touch the rotor pad and your issue will be gone

If you're painting them, just wire brush and brake cleaner before paint. I used the silver paint to give a nice clean OEM finish that cleans easily. Colours are lame unless they're powder coated/anodized, multi piston calipers (Brembos, etc)

weird. Last time I looked, the calipers looked galvanized or were aluminium.

Good way to prep them then just give them a few coats of paint. I've used satin black in the past, looks quite nice.

This problem was my first post on Beyond :D

Like j0n was saying, wire brush and caliper cleaner, then a coat or two of paint of your desired color.

When I did it on my Civic, I used a green masking tape and newspaper to cover all the areas I didn't want paint on, and used a spray paint I got from Canadian Tire on calipers. The paint is still on there now with no signs of cracking. The rear drums have cracked from Winter but it's not difficult to do it once every ~1.5 years
