Update: Swintons Has Won Their Case!

Has anyone else heard this? I heard that the city (SILLY HALL) has ordered Swintons to remove his artwork that covers his windows:

I'd say one phone call to an alderman or w/e representative you're supposed to call, has more effect in this debate over 10,000 online petition signatures.

Something that big someone should have checked regulations, but its way too late now. It's not the city's fault. but they should be a tiny bit lenient towards this.

I'm usually the first one to rag on online petitions, but this will actually be sent to the city and looks like it is being made properly.

Does anyone know who the alderman is for this riding? This is getting redic, ped bridges, this and the Ward 13 alderman running for a provincial seat while still on council.

I cant believe the shit that goes through Shitty Halls brains.... For instance this sounds ridiculous, i would say leave well enough alone. Then there is the new mall which has THE WORST planning ever when it comes to traffic control. I don't know if any of you are familiar with the Tuscany/Scenic Acres area and the new Stoney Trail ramp they are making, but If you are, you now how retarded they made it to access Tuscany from Stoney Trail now. Just a gong show. Somethings in Calgary make me wanna cut my wrists its so painful...

IIRC, there's a city bylaw that says only a certain amount of window space can be covered before it is considered signage.

At my previous job, our macleod trail store got shit on from the city because the entire window was a Samsung advertisement. :nut:

The city doesn't give 2 shits until someone complains - we had people on official business from the city in to buy things for years and didnt give a damn about the window. Some ass hat had to make a complaint about that window...

I think it's fair to assume B4tman was being facetious.

I believe it is 30% covered. Funny thing is CT's trains and busses are covered head to toe. Double standards!!!!

They aren't structures, they are motor vehicles.

You can cover your side of your van with ads if you so please as long as you can see out of the proper windows.

Yet the city seems ok with allowing graffiti "artists" to run amok.

Looks like Swintons beat "Silly Hall"

Received this email today thanking everyone for their support:

"For all of you interested in the ongoing saga the mural on window.

Thanks for signing our petition!!!!
The mural gets to stay!!!!
We won! we won!! we won!!!

After almost 2 years, 86 billion trips downtown, not to mention mortgaging the house in parking fees, the City of Calgary Development Appeal Board has granted a relaxation for us to keep our mural.

I would like to personally thank each and every person who helped us in our quest for community beautification. To all who supported us, by signing our petition, sending your letters, emails and even monetary donations. From both clients and neighboring businesses, and the media that brought National support.

A personal thank you to Christopher Davis lawyer about town for all his pro bono legal counsel. You rock Dude!!!

And an extra recognition to Dean Geddes, who helped me stay organized. Lord knows I needed It.!!! Thanks Dean!! Thanks also go to the City Appeal board for their leniency and letting Calgary be beautified. And above all, I am indebted to Donna for not deporting me.

(I told you it would work. I just didn't know it would take twice as long and be twice as much.)

Thank you all,
Doug."

Nice to see that it will remain.
