Going to be an interesting race. Some teams are setting up for downforce (fast S2, slow S1 + S3) and others like McLaren and Ferrari are setting up for low downforce (fast S1 + S3, slow S2). The gaps are huge... 0.6s faster in S2 for the high DF teams, 0.7s faster in S1+S3 for the low DF teams. Should make for an interesting race! Surprised that the Brawns are opting for a low DF setup.

Lewis posted the fastest time in FP2 (FP1 times are kinda useless, a few guys didn't even run in the wet). Here's to seeing McLaren score another podium or win this weekend!

Great pace by Grosjean. I'd love to see him legitimately out-qualify Alonso this race.

Badoer is still 2 seconds slower than Kimi. I wonder how long Ferrari can stand having him in the car. If I am the Ferrari team boss, I would replace him if he doesn't perform this weekend.

That's the rumour. If he sucks on Sunday, which he will, he's gone.

I'm still hoping that the McLaren's are strong enough to get 1st or 2nd for the remaining of the season (there's a HUGE update coming for Singapore ). Lewis needs to score 7.5pts more than button per race to have a chance at the title. There's still hope!!!

Fuck Badoer, I hope Ferrari replaces him soon !
I cant take this anymore.

after rage's comment on down force settings I went looking for evidence.

Toyota and RedBull seem to be running high down force as their S2 times are about 1sec quicker than the others.

Toyota's rear wing still looks to be pretty minimalist

I can't believe what I'm waking up to here. Both BMWs have a solid shot at the podium.

Webber "reprimanded" for blocking a rival. Who was it? Must not have had any effect for him to avoid a penalty.

They managed to time their commercials to hit critical pit stops as well as the restart. Even on a big screen, their side by side just doesn't cut it. Couldn't have made it much worse if they'd tried.

I just watched the first corner again and I didn't like what I saw. What Kimi did was dirty pool!

I think paved run-off areas are great. They give the driver a chance to use the brakes to slow down. You don't have the same risk of a car sliding sideways getting its wheels dug in and rolling. There's no gravel to spread all over the track and of course nothing is more frustrating than seeing a guy beached.

If you gain an advantage by cutting a corner, you get penalized, but apparently using the run-off area to gain an advantage is cool. It looked like Raikkonen went out there solely so he could keep a little more speed, avoid the traffic, and so have a better run for his KERS boost. I think he passed two cars while he was off the track.

Ferrari knew there'd be a shitstorm in turn 1 and he could, under the guise of avoiding a collision, just go wide and enjoy clean air and a wider turn.

Will anything happen? Fuck no.

Kimi had no intention of slowing down and keep to the track. He could have but he didn't and it wasn't like he was forced out there anyway as the closest car was more than 1/2 a car width away for a split second.

Anyway, great race for Fisi. He was able to keep pace with the Ferrari and was the faster driver than Kimi today.

Hey, thanks for posting that!

Kimi definitely got Trulli while he was off the track, but Trulli broke his front wing at the same time, so probably made no difference in the end. More importantly, he avoided getting stuck behind the Trulli-Heidfeld shunt and perhaps getting punted from behind himself. Did he have to go out there? I don't believe it! I still think it gave him a straighter run toward the hill and helped him eventually make the pass on Heidfeld.

Button took the same line as Kimi, which I hadn't seen before. He got nowhere near the acceleration - KERS must have a lot to do with that.

H4LFY2nR
08-31-2009, 09:12 PM
I think it was probably best that Kimi went off to avoid a potential collision. But come on, he knew, or at least his team should have told him, to rejoin at the same position he left.

Funny how Kimi blatantly gained position, but last year Hamilton got the penalty over the off course at the chicane, and he gave the position back.... oh well.

And congrats to Fisichella and Force India. Way to go from no points to a podium! I kinda wanted to see FI score their very first points with a win. That would've been epic
