Floating the Elbow west of Calgary?

we're thinking of floating the elbow today, but kinda want to go somewhere west of the city. we often see people getting in when we're driving on Hwy 8, but we're not sure exactly where to get in and get out, and if we can park there or not.

also, is the river as leisurely there as it is through the city? just cause we plan to have some fun pops, etc.

Ive floated down there a couple of times. You get out in discovery ridge. But there river is not calm, it is way more fast moving you have to watch out for tree's and shit all the time. If your looking to drink some beers and relax I would go west of the city stay inner city.

Shallow and rough. Like the other poster said... you are also watching out for trees and rocks the entire time.

Not really that fun.
