Do any of you have experience with backyard fireplaces?

I'm thinking of putting fireplace (the kind that's enclosed with a chimney and flue) in the back yard next year. I'm having trouble finding out a definite answer about setbacks from other structures. The bylaws say that a fire pit should be 2m away from other structures but don't mention a requirement for fire places.

I've called 311, Building permits, Community Standards and no-one seems to have solid answer. The closest I got was someone vaguely remembering that it was 4 feet, which would correspond to regular building setbacks.

Anyone know what the requirements are?

My parents have on in their backyard and its 4 feet from any structure on a brick pad.

They used fire bricks to build it and have a screen for the front to comply with fire regulations. I can get a pic if you would like.

Thanks for the information, 4 feet seems to be what's needed. I didn't know about the screen though.
