Hello, this has been bugging me for the last two days. I recently received a school issued laptop for the current school year to use. It can't manage to make it work with my setup. I have a Toshiba Tecra M10 with Windows XP Pro SP3.

I have a wireless network that is connected to the Linksys WRT54GL (w/tomato firmware version 1.25). I have seven wireless devices that are able to connect with no problems at all. Being 12 feet away from the router without a wall gives me a very good signal.

I started troubleshooting by checking if the laptop can establish a connection and acquire an IP address without security on the router.
When I tried to connect, the laptop was not able to immediately connect and receive an IP. Instead, I got a "limited or no connectivity" response. After some time (1-3 minutes roughly) it was able to get an IP address and can now go to the web. I tested by pinging some websites and it did work.

My router wireless mode is: Access Point + WDS
B/G: G Mode
Security: WPA Personal
Encryption: AES

MAC filtering is disabled.

After that I did the FF in no particular order for more troubleshooting:

1.ipconfig/release and ipconfig/renew = stuck on acquiring network address
2.updated the driver for Intel(R) Wifi Link 5100 AGN = stuck on acquiring network address
3.tried a shorter key on WPA = stuck on acquiring network address
4.tried to update windows but OS was current
5.connect with ethernet = was able to connect and acquire network address quickly
6. switched wireless G to B/G and then back = = stuck on acquiring network address

BTW the whole time my laptop was on limbo (stuck on acquiring network address) it says it was connected. I ran ipconfig/all and got the rest of these information:
My subnet mask & ip address was all set to 0.0.0.0 . My dhcp server was 255.255.255.255, default gateway was blank, DNS server was not available.
I hope there information will help you guys. Thanks.

Thanks for sharing, but I need more information. How close is your issue to mine really?

I have 3 wireless PC's working, PS3 and a wireless bridge working with my current setup.

I had this same issue just recently and i did the following to fix it:

Go into your Wireless Network Connection Properties.
Select your Wireless Network under Preferred Networks.
select Properties
goto Authentication Tab
Unselect all
Ok

See if that works for you.

make sure the drives you upgraded to are the latest from intel.com, as older drivers may not work with wpa

can you connect if you manually set your ip address?

Try this...

http://www.microsoft.com/DOWNLOADS/details.aspx?familyid=662BB74D-E7C1-48D6-95EE-1459234F4483&displaylang=en

Or.. do you have a MAC filter enabled?
Is your DHCP server got the addresses left?
Is the subnet mask of your network /29 or smaller?
/28 should be a good size for you currently (14 hosts)
