Hey all I'm just looking at my options right now for some brighter lights for my car. Its more of a safety issue than a aesthetic one. I don't feel my current bulbs are bright enough or cover enough road space for higher speed night time driving (highways, etc).

Anyone know of something cheap that might work?

you want looks or functionality?

functionality, its going in my daily "beater". Its not like i'm trying to have some riced out civic. :D Its just a safety issue for night time/high speed. I feel very limited in what my headlights show me.

I only have high beams right now (old car), so i may convert the front orange "safety" lights to fogs/low beams.

Are they aimed properly and bulb in the housing properly? Those make differences.

Also if the lamp lens is all yellow you can get rubbing compound and polish it up so they look new.

Dont put an HID kit in your reflector housing.

The problem is not brightness, it's where the light is going. You have a crappy housing. Stick a projector in there.

im in the same boat as the OP. right now im using a cheap bulbs that i bought in vancouver that looks like an HID. it is brighter than the silvania ones but there's too much glare that even the road signs will glare on you.

im thinking installing 2 or 4 round headlamps that they use off roads/rally racing vehicles.

and this is for functionality not cosmetic because i frequently drive on the hwy day and night.

how cheap are those projector headlamps btw?

Actually, I did some research on my car, and since its ooold it uses one piece halogens. I just replaced it and the quality seems much better.

A one piece, sealed, (whatever you want to call it)headlamp can come apart.

If it's a beater, it could also benefit from a relay and thicker power wires. I'm a little short on sleep right now, so i can't recall what this mod is called, but it's pretty common on older vehicles.
