Hey all,

Looks like somebody tried to steal my car last night. They damaged the ignition. My key will go in but won't turn. They then decided to ransack my car. Luckily I didn't have anything of value in there.

Will insurance cover the repair cost of my ignition if it was because of attempted theft?

I've never had to make a claim for anything like this.

Thanks,

Kris

They should, but find out how much it'll cost to repair. It may be cheaper to fix yourself than deal with the deductible.

If you have full coverage it will be covered. It is not covered under Fire/Theft, but rather vandalism.
I've had it happen to me twice in the last 10 years.

As long as you have Comprehensive on your policy you'll be fine (less your $250 deductible anyway).

if you have vandalisim coverage, they will pay for it, but as stated before, get a quote first. Depending on what your deductable is, it may be cheaper for you to fix it without making a claim.

The bonus side to this is, that if you do go through insurance, this is one of the few claims that will not cause your insurance premiums to rise.
