Hey all just wondering if anyone knows any stores that sell mead (I have tried crowfoot liquor they seem to be out of stock every time I go in). Or if there are any bars that serve it?

Also if anyone makes it themselves (or knows someone that does) I might consider that an option.

Going to Germany got me hooked on this stuff.... :whipped:

And for those who don't know what mead is:

Chinook Honey in Okotoks is the first Meadery in AB.

Art and Cherie are fantastic The mead is fantastic I am hooked on Bodacious Black Currant and Ginger Snapped..Melissa's Gold is unbelievable with mulling spices with cold weather around the corner.

I called Cork at CIM and they carry various kinds of mead.

Your post is making my curious side appear and so I'll have to check it out.

Cork has Chinook Honey though I heard they were out of stock. I use the Beacon Hill location, they had Maxwell from Australia, and Alley Kat from Edmonton.

Ask and you shall receive.

Due to sheer curiosity, I went to Cork at Cross Iron and see if they had any Chinook Honey mead (seeing as how it was homemade and I like supporting local businesses  ) but alas, all they had in stock was this raspberry mead and this:

Maxwell Mead from Australia!

After opening, the scent was similar to white wine but with more fruity scent.

Upon sipping, it was totally a bit more aggressive in taste; very dry but bold in flavor. And I CAN taste a tad of honey! Very sweet and similar to icewine.

I tried to be sophiscated and see what it tasted like with some Costco cheddar:

Classy.

The cheddar balanced out the flavor a bit but it actually made me go for more mead!

I'm not really a heavy drinker and usually takes two beers to see me flush (yes I'm a lightweight...) but after that ONE glass, I was getting red!

All in all, this was a good buy ($20!) and I'm sure it won't last long in me fridge.

I would recommend trying the Maxwell Mead heated up (not boiling but close to). Also this is what you need to properly drink mead!

Yes its mine, :D

I went to Cork at Beacon Hill to pick some up but all the had was Alley Cat Raspberry Mead.

This will be a quick one, I paid ~11.99 for 4 bottles of this stuff. I was expecting something really good as its being made by Alley Cat who make some terrific beers. But it ended up being terrible, it tasted like a cooler instead of a mead.

overall rating 1/5

More reviews to come, I'm only going to review stuff that can be bought in Canada (I have a lot of mead purchased from Euro-trips)

I've seen a few varieties at Willow Park south as well, on the shelves to the left of the beer coolers.

It was both very dry and very sweet like an icewine? I'm confused...

I've never tried mead before, so is mead supposed to be like a really dry white wine? or is it supposed to be very sweet like an ice wine or Kabinetts or Spätlesen?

Okay, I could've worded that better.

Its mostly dry like white wine with a faint hint of sweetness, like icewine.

Did that help... I'm not a wine reviewer kind of person. I just get drunk hahaha.

It can range from a dry white to something with more body. Its basically like drinking watered down honey (but it ****'s you up). Its been called the nectar of the gods for a long time.
