I don't think it's overboard, maybe the beyond sticker will become something of an antitheft device because of this.

I'm sure you'd feel the same way if it was YOUR car that got jacked , right?

the car is now recovered. it would have made more sense announcing it when it was still stolen. whats the point of telling calgary a car has been found, nobody is going to care about that.

this is only a publicity stunt.

The point is NOT that a car has been found, it is HOW it was found. That is, once it was posted on a public forum, there was MANY MORE SETS OF EYES that were looking for the car, actively or passively. If you don't agree that posting it on a car forum helped, sure thats your opinion.

But if the site is on the news, there are going to be a LOT more people joining. I'm sure a good chunk of them will be somewhat undesirable, be it for promoting street racing or simply whoring up the forums. The mods better be ready...
Sounds just like the present.....Beyond will always have postwhorers/dumbasses, it's just a matter of how fast they will get banned;)
PLUS, our # of members will triple in no time:rofl:

dude, do you even know what a publicity stunt is?

If I stole the car, and tipped off air_mikey to where it was, so it was recovered, THAT'S a publicity stunt.

What we're doing is using free publicity if in fact they're interested in it. I don't see a problem with that.

Rage2 is right...plus what is wrong with free publicity...why you so negative on this bart???

bart
11-11-2003, 08:43 PM
you know what i meant rage. ok, take out the word stunt then, lol.

i'm not negative about it, just neutral rather. sure you might bring more people to the boards, good. but like i said, most people who will be watching the news, will hear the word 'forum' or 'message board', and scratch their heads. i dont think many young people my age watch the news actively, especially something that will be aired towards the end. getting it aired before the first commercial is another story.

second, i dont think they will stop at "car stolen, msg posted on msg board @ beyond, car found, hooray!", they will want to perhaps do interviews and find out how it was stolen, the driver leaving the valet key in the glove box might not sound too bright.

sure i would be pissed if my car got stolen, and happy when found, but not due to driver neglegence. we have high insurance rates, if i was ever in that position, i rather my car never recovered, and just get it replaced with a new one, imagine what kind of joy ride its been through, can you say 9,000rpm? lol only but problems probably from this point on.

and 9,000rpm on a diesel is a little much. :)

I could see some good coming out of these. I mean, if it's mentioned how board members worked together to find a stolen car and brings along some awareness of this site, people who come along will see that we're not just "a bunch of kids who streetrace". For example, many of us don't condone streetracing at all (ie: "Keep it at the track"), and many members take the time to organize events like car shows and track days.

this can also show a good side of the internet with all the bad images happening lately, terrorism on the net, porn, etc...
