History :
The original banked track built in 1922 has long since been abandoned, with the modern Monza boasting fast sweeping corners and long straights.

Some of the corners have been tightened a little in the interests of safety in recent years and chicanes have been brought into play.

Monza is the real home of the Italian Grand Prix, which has been staged here every year but one since 1950, and the "tifosi" or fans add to the unique atmosphere.

I will be quite surprised if the McLaren's doesn't pull a 1-2 with this one. They are fucking FAST, eating up those curbs.

I still need to watch qualifying but I'm happy with the grid. All 6 Mercedes engines in the top 8? Oh yeah! I think the Brawns and RBRs may be on 1 stop strategies though.

Done deal! I admit to being a bit concerned by Kovy's speed. I still hope Lewis finishes up front, because I just can't cheer against Nicole.

^^ I think you're going to win this bet, no chance in hell McLaren 1-2.
Kimi for the win, HAM second is my prediction.
I am going to give Kimi some credit on his performance. it seems like anyone else in the same car cant touch him.

Alright now that the picks are locked...

All the MB cars have better fuel economy compared to the other cars. Even tho Kimi is 12kg heavier than Sutil, he will only be able to squeeze out only 1 lap if he's lucky. Also, because KERS gets "double deployed" in quali, the race pace of the Ferrari actually isn't that good (well, based on FP2 anyways when they're doing long stints). So ya, no way in hell Kimi's gonna take it.

That's my take anyways... we'll see how right I am soon haha. McLaren at a minimum is going to win this one, 1-2 is a stretch but I can hope right? lol

(snickers)

Although, in all seriousness, just looks like he unloaded the rear, spun up the outside rear, spun it when it hit the pavement, and into the tirewall BAM

Hamilton would've been out of championship contention anyways with Button ahead of him today. Kimi ended up 3rd, and got eliminated too.

Did you honestly think Hamilton had a chance? Even McLaren & Hamilton pretty much gave up hope of a repeat months ago.

rage2
09-13-2009, 08:04 AM
There was an outside chance before Spa if Brawn continued to have shitty pace, only needed 6pts per race on Button. After Spa DNF, Hamilton needed 9.2pts per race on Button to have a chance, which is pretty much no chance in hell.

Beauty day for Brawn.

Hamilton went into the wall pretty hard, that was a little nerve racking.

I was surprised that Hamilton's engineer didn't tell him to cool it for the last lap... because he appeared to be driving on/over the limit for most of his last stint... crazy crash.

Yeah I couldn't believe that Hami made such a unnecessary mistake. I was cheering for him to pass Button for my pool picks sake ;) lol. There was no reason for him to push so hard on the last half lap.

And I knew the 2 stop wouldn't work, but for some reason I had some blind faith that Hami had the pace to walk away with it from pole lol.

As for the pool, I'm finally back in the hunt!:D

In Hamilton's and McLaren's defense, Button was coming up to traffic and there was a chance to go for a pass with KERS if button was slowed down in any way by the backmarker. Hamilton was pushing like crazy, I was watching live timing and he set fastest S1 by 0.1s on worn hard tires. 3 laps before that he was setting purples and personal best laps. He wasn't in the championship running anymore at that point, so 3rd place is meaningless anyways, why not go for another place right?

As for the strategy, I think McL's plans was that Kovi would be slow in the race, and would start a Kovi train to hold the Brawn's, Alonso, and all other 1 stoppers up enough. It's too bad that *everyone* got by Kovi by lap 1, giving the Brawn's clear air to make their 1 stopper work. If the Brawns stayed behind Kovy, Hamilton would've walked away with it, and Kovy would've ended up 4th. McLaren sounded pretty upset at Kovi's horrible pace tho, so I think his career at McL is pretty much done.

H4LFY2nR
09-15-2009, 01:15 AM
Ya I couldn't believe how fast Kovi was falling behind, and he was fueled lighter than the Brawns too. I wonder with all the new teams next year if he'll find a seat or not.

As for Hamilton, I figured that for the sake of the team, he should have made some safe points in an effort to beat Ferrari in the constructors. For a while it definitely looked like he had the pace to pass Button, but then Button picked it up out of nowhere lol. I figured his engineer would've noticed by the last lap that it probably wasn't gonna happen and remind him he should bring the car/engine home in one piece.
