Has anyone had to pay for replacing a seized engine on a 2007 Cobalt? Just looking for a rough idea.

Yeah.

If they aren't gonna warranty it, the story must be good. :)

"When was the last time you checked the oil?"

"But dad, it CAME with oil from the factory, why would I need to check it?"

There have been a few cases of Cobalts having oil leak out of their pans and then the engine shuts down with no warning lights whatsoever.

Mallet does the V8 swaps for Solstices & the Sky's. They use the same 2.4L engine as your Cobalt comes with I believe.

Thankfully when the swap out the engine they re-sell the 2.4L at a very good rate.

you can buy a brand new ecotec crate motor from JEGS, drops right in. A backyard mechanic could probably do it pretty cheap.

That would be a good idea IF Mallet weren't bankrupt and the building wasn't padlocked up

Oh it sure wasn't my car.

A gal in our office ran over something, punctured the oil pan and kept driving (had to get her kids home). Well the thing came to a chugging halt about 10 feet from it's normal parking space. So obviously no warranty there. It's going to go through insurance so it will be a full tab at the dealership. I'm just wondering for my own personal amusement what something like this is going to be worth.

EDIT*** - Just got the quote back, $8500. Yikes!

Hope it was really important that she got the kids home on time.
