Conflict when Opening Display options in Control Panel

When I click on the 'Advanced' Setting in 'Settings' in the display portion of Control Panel, I get the following error:

An error occured while Windows was working with the Control Panel file C:\WINNT\System32\desk.cpl.

anyone have an idea what might be causing this?

To fix this use regedit to delete the display manufacturer's folder (if it exists) in the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Controls Folder\Display\shellex\PropertySheetHandlers"
