Hey guys

Here's SE Calgary News' story on Friday's Secret Street, and fight with City Council. Ald. McIver says that for $2-3 million more they could put Shepard Landfill expansion on property east of Race City. Plus, the background on why Edmonton Blue Line Racing and other cops pulled out of Secret Street.

Race City is done.

Reading the paper today, it is appalling to see CPS' stance on the issue. These guys' have their noses so far up city councils a$$es, that it is sick.

It's finished - it's obvious they want it gone. Do you guys really think just because a bunch of guys who have 0 stroke show up, race their cars up and down the track, then have a rally, they're going to change their minds? Hardly; they already have their plans set.

I honestly love the spin that global has put on the story. I was watching the video of the news online last night.. and they basically said that "all taxpayers would be on the hook" for keeping race city open. Clearly appealing to all those hippie fuckers who hate cars. I don't see this happening for us tonight, just too many elements going against the automotive community.

It'll take a street racing fatality before the city wakes up.

It will take a bit more than that. The first death will only spark concern that there are not enough police enforcement. The next step will be to do checkstops around calgary and impounding any vehicle that has been modified for performance. After about 7 or 8 innocent deaths and 5 or 6 years, they will have a solution to go forward with the plans of opening a motorsport park in the far NE by Ballzac.

They were talking about transferring all the costs incurred from the altered shepard expansion, plus all of RC's costs to the city (traffic control.. etc) to RC's lease... Sounds like an underhanded way of pushing the blame for RC's demise to everyone but the city.

Remember the motion only needs 8 votes to pass. They had 7 last time and Hodges missed the January meeting because he was sick. So if the vote lines up the way McIver hopes, it could very well pass. I've talked to the SE aldermen who voted against and they're not changing their minds. Other 5 probably won't either. So just pray that Bronconnier doesn't get to one of the Race City supporters over lunch and buy their vote with some pork barrel crap....which is frankly what I expect to happen.

The amendment to the motion (to keep race city open) was to force them to pay for certain costs associated with building up the alternate land to use for the landfill... although I'm not sure which 'bullet' means what... that was the overall amendment. They would force Race City to pay for it by increasing the lease amount.
