Hi Beyond

I'm looking at buying an old farm truck, as said above its a 1995 Sonoma.

Anyone here know any notorious problems or obvious items of concern to check out on this vehicle before purchase?

Body has 300,000km on it. Motor was replaced at 230,000km with another used motor w/ 175,000km on it

Clutch seems fine, rides smooth, all the accesories work OK.

Under the hood nothing is leaking, theres a bit of oil on the valve cover, but as far as I can tell it just needs a new valve cover gasket.

Any advice?

Thanks :)

Unless you are on a severe budget I would steer clear. Is there no other truck in this price range that has a more subtle history?

As to the GMC Sonoma in general..My old workplace has/had a fleet of these - all high mileage - all constantly at the shop - all hunks of shit.

The tranny's are the most common catastrophic failure on these trucks. Electrical problems are also very prevalent. Two things that are very not-fun to deal with.

they love to eat front end parts... with the chassis having that many miles, I'd stay away

I sold a '91 GMC 1500 with 165k on it for 1800 a couple years ago, I'd look for a deal like that

Front end parts are cheep if you can do the work yourself. Get life time parts from napa.

Is it a 4 cyl or v6 ?

What do you plan on using it for ? daily driving or just odd jobs ?

As long as everything works right now I wouldn't be too concerned. For $800 if it last six months that's about all you can ask for.
