So last night I worked out (chest, tris, bis, forearms). Today when I woke up i felt stiff in my neck/upper back area.

When i move my neck up and down and to my right side I get a stinging kind of pain in the area between my left shoulder blade and my spine, up in the upper back area.

I started looking at articles online and I came across this: http://forums.jpfitness.com/injuries-rehab/25947-neck-upper-back-pain.html

They didn't have very many responses so I figured I'd see what you guys would have to say about it. This is the second time it has happened, last time it lasted about 2 days and went away.

What should I do about it? I'm definitely going to try to get some rest and sleep early tonight. Any stretches you guys can suggest for me to recover faster? As well any warm up/stretches that would help prevent this? I may have not slept well/right last night either.

Thanks in advance.

This maybe the same cervical strain as discussed:

yeah same thing happened to me. (see post above). It took a whole week for me to recover. I find tilting your head to one side, then roll your chin towards your shoulder slowly, doing this about 5 times per side, a couple times a day helps. also shoulder rolls. I still get mild pain every so often but nothing as bad as it was before. that sucked! i struggled to get out of bed every morning cause it'd hurt like a mofo if i moved my neck. i think it's time i made another trip to my RMT tho

Not sure if your pain is uber-serious but hot/cold wraps usually help whenever I get a stiff neck or shoulders.

Salonpas FTW!

Glad I found this thread, this morning I strained my neck real bad... by sneezing. Now it's killing me, can't even get up/sit down without it affecting my neck.

There's a reason medical practitioners won't diagnose over the internet....go see someone qualified about it (physio, chiro, doctor, etc.). If I had a sharp pain I would get it looked at, even if it is just a strain getting it worked on will speed up recovery.

Yeah I'm planning to see a physio right after work, for now, I do neck stretches
