Just checked this place out today...

Food: 9/10
Atmosphere: 5/10
Value: 7/10

I can tell you, these are the best Tacos I've had since working in Guadalajara for a few weeks. Ran into one of my co-workers there (she's originally from Mexico) and she confirmed for me that they were good (she'd been craving real Mexican tacos since leaving).

Their main business is selling fresh Tortillas and Mexican groceries, but from noon-8pm daily (different on the weekends... check out the website) they serve fresh tacos. They're pretty expensive ($3 a small taco - traditional Mexican size) but boy are they worth it. Choices are Beef, Pork (what I had), Chicken and Shrimp (only on the weekends). They also have Tamales (I didn't have one) but my wife said they were good.

The meat was perfect, tortilla was (as they make in there) very good, toppings were all fresh, salsa was just the right level of hot for us (I'm sure he's got stuff back there to make it super hot if that's your thing).

Not much for atmosphere... one table with chairs in the front of the store with racks of groceries around you, but at least it's clean.

I recommend this place for anyone looking for a good authentic mexican taco!

i've bought tortillas from there before, and have heard great things about their tacos on chowhound, but haven't had a chance to try them yet since they (used to?) only sell them on weekends. I read somewhere, though, that they are going to start selling them on weekdays too. did you get these on a weekday?

It's in that strip mall a little north of the rear of Marlb Mall (if that makes sense).

I tried this place today, picked up 5 beef tacos.

I was expecting the typical ground beef, but I was surprised to find it containing more of a roast beef, as if it was shaved from a roast.

Tasted good, was a bit too hot for my girly stomach.

Next time I'll have to try the chicken and pork tacos as well, because I have a feeling that I'll like those even more.

^^that's exactly what i'm trying to say. everyone here just seems to accept that as OK, however.

but i suppose it's just a result of an interesting phenomenon called "lack of competition." :D

thank god for Mi Tierra. I really do want to support these other mexican places that serve decent mexican food (i.e. Salt & Pepper, Los Tortillas, etc.), however their prices are outrageous for what you get. $6 at Los Tortillas is crazy for 2 dinky little tacos... just as absurd is Salt & Pepper's $18 plates that can't even satiate a 110 lb chick! I've said it many times before - these guys have a lot to fear in Mi Tierra, the only reasonable-priced mexican in alberta.

Last time I went to Mi Tierra I couldn't get just a taco... has this changed?

^^Mi Tierra definitely still has single tacos (there is a whole section on their menu devoted to it - at least there was yesterday at lunch!). they are $3.50, but good-sized.

I've been going to Mi Tierra since Hector opened, and you've always been able to order just a taco if you want. I believe it's 3.50?

Yeap, they are $3.50 each. But for me to get full it would probably take 3 (maybeeee 4) of 'em, so I usually get one of the taco plates that is like $10.50 or something like that. you get a whole plate of the taco fillings and a tortilla warmer with about 6 or 7 corn tortillas. i usually finish the whole plate and make about 5 or so... and leave pretty stuffed haha.

I went to this place. It was pretty good, the shrimp tacos were awesome. But its too expensive for what you get. I ordered one of everything on the meun for myself just to get filled up.
