Good afternoon everyone I would like to let everyone know without directly slandering the reputation of a certain Automotive auction service in Calgary.

I recently consigned my car to ****** auctions in calgary when I drove my car in the car was fully operational (the car I am referring to is my 1972 Mercedes) I left my car in their trust for a period of 2 weeks in trust that they would of course do the selling for me.

The Car of course did not sell (and with a reserve bid of 3000 dollars and a starting bid of 200 dollars why would it?)

Well after 2 weeks of consistent no go and no sell I decided to pick up my car last night and I was OUTRAGED to find that my baby was in need of a new fuel pump. (985.00 from Mercedes dealer and no wreckers in canada have on used)

It was not myself that had wrecked the fuel pump I drove the car in and I left it with 1/4 tank of gas... what had cause my fuel pump to be burned out was the lot attendant who left my car running and unattended for close to an hour allowing it to burn off every drop of fuel...(not to mention the risk of having it stolen at any moment) Once the car had run out of gas they continued trying for another half hour to restart it with a dry tank.

I advised the manager today of the little mechanical mishap and the manager told me "I have been in the car business for 30 years and have never seen a car wreck a fuel pump from running out of gas" (hmmm this is an inelligent statement) to which I inquired "have you been servicing cars this long or just selling them?" he told me he had been selling them this long.

Clearly getting nowhere in having my parts which were stupidy and carelessly damaged replaced. So I contacted the specialist... The Mercedes Technician at a local Benz dealer and to no surprise he told me what I already knew...based on the symptoms my car was suffering fuel pump was shot and likely caused by running the tank to dry.

So I would like to gather some professional and publical opinions on the matter.

1: Auto Techs--- Can a car have a fuel pump burnt out by running it dry and attempting to restart it without priming?

2: public--- A car which was left in the care of an auction company on consignement carelessly damages your vehicle and claims they are not at fault knowing well enough that you the owner Drove the fully operational unit into their yard before leaving it in their care. Should the auction company have to pay compensation for the damage caused by their negligence?

Please don't hesitate to voice your opinion as this is what I have posted this for.

Thanks

1) Yes it definitely would. You'd have to be either a complete dumbass to try starting a car with no gas in the tank, or the fuel gauge is busted and thus other issues for the car not starting would be more appropriate.

2) Of course the auction should be held responsible. The problem may be proving that they were the ones who caused the problem. And as much as I hate to say it, it probably says somewhere in the fine print that they are not responsible for damages, repairs etc.

EDIT: I just noticed your sig...how German of you lol.

Lets break down this repair.

You pay $984.26
They pay $0.74

Are you honestly trying to pin point the cause of failure on a 37 year old fuel pump? Get real.

If you want a decent "aftermarket" fuel pump try worldpac.

a quick google found this (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000CGHX1G/?ie=UTF8&me=ATVPDKIKX0DER) delphi unit for $42.60

1. Driving a car like a jackass Pin points "YOU" no matter how old the car is. Driving a car and taking care of it Pin points " benijaunah"

It doesnt matter how old a car is just cuz its old doesnt make it useless. :guns:

2. benijaunah u might be looking at it as its not ur problem to pay for the pump ur self since they fucked it up and claiming they didnt or what not but when you droped it off did you sign any thing stating the car is fully running and had 100% no problems when droped off? if so then you might have all the rights in the world for having them pay for the damage done but if you didnt then good luck :(

Fuel pump is cooled by fuel .... no fuel, no cool.

I say talk to a laywer if you have proof of this...unless you signed something stating
"any damages that occur on my vehicle during the time on lot are not liable to the company" or w.e. the hell they will word it with
If you got proof to this auction company
$1000 or a lawsuit and possible bad reputation with the media, most people would make the smart choice on that one.

Sorry got ahead of myself the car is a 1972 280 SEL 4.5L I spoke to Mercedes on the VIN they only made 800 SEL 4.5 for 72

And when you consign a vehicle with this particular auction house their agreement does not state that they are not liable for repairs or mishaps because you are legally consigning the car into their care. It's like consigning a car to the dealer if they wreck it their insurance pays for the damages.

I am speaking to the owner of the auction house today and it was by their own admission of guilt that they ran the car out of gas. and then tried to start it again afterward.

The more outrageous part is they left the car running and unattended for more than an hour anyone could have driven off in my classic MErcedes and they would never have known it.
