Last night did an oil change on the corvette and my god I thought my Evo took a lot of oil.. It took just over 10L of oil... Anyone else have a vehicle that takes this much? I mean I know it’s a 7.0L engine but that is ridiculous. Could it be because it’s a sump oil system vs the traditional style?

The oil goes into the cap on the valve cover, not your gas tank.

But yes they do take a lot of oil.

The vipers take 10L as well.
Just large engines.

Diesel trucks take ~14L

ahaha...

:P although its not on the valve cover... there is a seperate tank on the Z06 where the battery normally is on the C6 Coupes were you pour the oil into

Sure is :P... and if you were going by the look of the wheels im glad you got that it was a GNX... because they are actually Simons 3 peice wheels (australian company) but they were close enough to the GNX "look" but in a 17x10 front and a 17x12 rear. Some people dont like the look but I think its close enough to the stock look and the stock wheels wouldnt clear the 13" baer brakes.

Yeah, and heavy duty diesels like in semis take upwards of 30. And the only diesel oil that the dealership I worked at stocked came in quarts, not gallon jugs or from a bulk hose. The parts guy would wheel over a handcart full of quart bottles and the mechanic had to sit there pouring them in one by one.

This reminds me of when I was trying to teach my brother how to do oil changes and he forgot to put the drain plug back in. Bye bye $70 worth of 0w40.

The 12L for a Porsche explains their crazy recommended interval.

You're not burning oil in your cylinders, so I don't know what the 7l engine has to do with it. 911s use 12l of oil and 3.6l engines.

What are their intervals, extremely large or small? My C-class is recommended for 15,000km between oil changes which somewhat makes me cringe..

They know girls are forgetful/don't like getting things done to there cars, thus making it longer intervals for said car...

no it was a 78 or 79 911SC or whatever, iirc all the 911s from the late 60s to mid 90s take that much, because they're aircooled/oilcooled or whatever they need the extra oil to keep cooler because as hardcore as that fan is its not enough i guess.

+ or - $100 oil change, at $7/liter plus the oil filter, thats why the guy only drove it in the summer i guess haha, it was somewhat beat up and around 25 years old at the time but it was the only porsche i've ever driven and it was fun as hell!! i then completely understood the love for a porsche (bling factor aside).

Doesn't seem too high to me? My 5.8L stroker (to 408w) takes 8.1l of oil.....

Porsche is oil cooled, so it needs a lot to do its job ... silly porsche, stick a radiator in the front and do it properly :D

Damn I didnt think it was that common for this many cars to need this much oil..

I can do 2 oil changes on my Evo for the price of 1 on the corvette

Mine takes 9 L for an oil & filter, 11.5 L for a complete refill.

10L for your 7.0L V8 is a fair bit. considering it needs a change every 5k kms.
with my little 3.0L I6, it takes over 6 liters of oil. Thats only because it has 24k oil change intervals though.
