new set of FT-86 photos:
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8

Much better pics than those few press pics Toyota released.

It's a pretty sweet car IMO. Keep it low in weight and price and Toyota's got a hit on its hands. :hitit:

I'd like to see this as a two-seater. Back seats look cramped and useless like those of a Porsche 911.

I sure hope the pedals are adjustable. The spacing is horrible.

Wow, looks great... I really like the styling and proportions of the car. I hope styling doesn't change too much when it makes it to production, and I agree on the back seat... they should just get rid of it.

Most of their cars will still be bland with the rare exception like this one. Bland cars keep them profitable.

You guys can't like it, it's RHD! LOL, Should be a nice unit, I'd like to see a turbo version, I'm sure a swap would go pretty easy, and there will be kits out quick too I'm sure.

Wonder what is the idea behind displaying a map of the track between the tach and speedo? Maybe like a track-mode like the G35?

But the concept is looking pretty cool!!

Not anymore.. the President recently made a public apology for all the problematic and unexciting cars they've been producing.

Good to see they can make a car with a low hood line. I'm tired of all these new cars with tall hoods for the sake of pedestrian safety.

It looks like the offspring of a 370z and Celica. If this has a decent engine it could be a really sweet car. Knowing Toyota they'll put a Corolla engine in it and ruin the car...

Exactly.

So far it is a nice looking car. There are a few things i could do without. The wheels are hideous, if i bought one it would be the first thing i would change. Seats look very ackward and weird. Take a look at pic 2. Shifter looks ugly, not to mention its massive. The dash looks like its covered in a leather jacket.

Who knows what the actual car will end up looking like. I do love how aggressive the car looks, its very sharp and has good lines. I love the mirrors, the aggressive back end and all the CF touches. The guages look sweet too.

Looking forward to seeing final product but knowing Toyota.. hmm i dunno..

Its about damn time toyota has a hot coupe rolling out of the factory! The styling cues are spot on; sharing some similar lines to the Nissan's GTR, complimented by an interior of fantastic modern ingenuity. Simply put: I WANT.

Man i hope they keep this car light weight.... It's looking real promising so far!

This things going to be pretty compact tho:

Vehicle : FT-86 Concept
Length: 4,160 mm = 162 inches = 13.5 feet
Width: 1,760 mm = 68 inches = 5.72 feet
Height: 1,260 mm = 48.19 = 4 feet
Wheelbase: 2,570 mm = 100.3 inches
Seating: 4

For comparison, the Mazda MX5 Miata:
Length: 158.3
Width: 67.7
Height: 49
Wheelbase: 91.7

lol, but it doesn't hurt to dream..:D While I totally agree with you, it is sad because if they were to keep that interior I and many others would be selling our cars and be getting in line to buy one at launch.

Sorry, I may have missed it, but is this car actually scheduled for production? Isn't this still a concept car at the moment? I know there's been a rumored Toyota/Subaru coupe, but is it actually confirmed now? As nice as it is, I find it hard to believe that Toyota will actually produce anything exciting.

What a waste. They canceled production of a unique car like the Supra and built this which is going to get walked all over by the 370Z. Who would buy this over a Nissan?

I would say, pending the handling characteristics of this car, most people would. I don't know if you have personally driven the 370Z, but from my experience I would like something that gets my juices flowing a bit more than the annoying sounding VQ.

I think this looks better, and i saw on the FT-86 forum that for this car to perform like the 370z, it would need an output of 200 whp. That would make the two cars have the same power/weight ratio, so on paper, the same straight line performance. Correct me if i am wrong, but it is also cheaper, and with 4 rather then 6 cylinders it would be a more economical daily driver.

Definitely the most exiting thing I have seen from Toyota in a really long time.

But I can't believe someone started a website on a car that isn't even built yet and that so many people have registered on it. I mean good for Toyota, but I find it rather pathetic for the members. :thumbsdow

The styling of todays sports cars reminds me of how all sports car manufacturers followed the same styling cues back in the late 70s early 80s. If you think about it the 280z/300zx. Supra/Celica, RX7, Porsche 924/944 all had the short rear end with the hatch and a long nose, you could easily mistake one for the other. Todays sports cars 370z/G37, Cayman, RX8 (sort of), Genesis, FT86, GTR and even LFA are all back to having very similiar designs. Funny how history repeats itself. If we really want to go back further in time we can examine the old Jag XK8, toyota 2000gt, Ferrari 250GTB, aston martin db1 etc.
