im not talking about how to get to a dealership and sign that paper. im talking about how u guys got ur first favourite car, or the first car that u did sum heavy modding on. sum of u guys have souped up mercedes? how the hell do 20 yr olds afford those so early on? i have my eye on a 04 wrx, i think im getting it as a graduation gift after i get into and pass the university accounting degree with reasonable marks. but im sure not all ppl got theirs bought by parents?

My first car was a nissan micra, I bought that myself. From there I went to a Buick someset, then a '99 beemer when I got my first real job, now I drive an '02 TL-S. No parents help here, for others I can't say the same.

i was looking for a totally different car...after two months of looking i stumbled over this red neon two door that looked too good and was just way too good a price to pass it up...only after that did i start liking it.

In high school, I crammed all my spares into grade 12, and took 1/2 year off, working full time as a busboy while living at home. Made enough money to pay for 944 turbo.

I worked my ass off for several years and just bought a beater for $250. Only problem was insurance was 2 grand. Finally, having a car I was able to get a better job so I worked even harder and upgraded to a 95' Neon and had insurance was $2300. Finally, this year I picked up a 92' Celica GTS which is finally mod worthy but my insurance is also around $3600 so really, insurance is what has kept me from driving something really bling. In a way I'm happy I had to work for it all and pay for it all myself but in another way I wish I could have an WRX handed to me when I graduate management.

my parents gave me a hyundai accent as my first car.. hopefully i can convince them to get me an s13 240sx for graduation.. with me paying part of it and selling the hyundai should cover most of it too..

I didn't. Doesn't mean I didn't GO to high school.

As for why I'm young and have money, well, dropped out of university and got a 4 year head start in the IT field before the tech crash :). I didn't go out at all for 4 years and saved up a lot of money for toys.

It's all about hard work, not about school!

My CRX was the first car I bought. Had enough saved up for insurance, but not for the car, so I got a "loan" from my grandma. Paid her back after a year and a half.

age 19, dont have a first car yet! kinda saving up for one.. but thanks to my sis' beautiful 6-accidents-in-3-years record, i dont see myself being able to save up 9k/year for insurance. so i probably wont get a car until im 21 at least. yay for me.

I saved up enough for a down payment and am now financing my Spec V. Parent's weren't really into me driving or having access to a car and moved into an area where bussing sucks. I sucked it up and got myself my car and insurance.

Last year I had a couple grand saved up out of High School to pay for College, but I got a couple scholarships and at the same time I won a contest for free tuition from MRC open house to pay for my first semester. And in the same month I won a contest in the calgary Sun for $1000 and a 27" TV. So as a result I had extra money left over and bought my first car (88 Prelude).
Some people just get lucky....but this year I am broke, so it's not all good...:banghead:

First car was given to me by my parents after they drove the shit out of it and decided they only need to use 1 car..

That was a 1987 Chevy Sprint.. I drove it for 3 years and sold the thing for 500 bucks.. When I turned 18 I saved up all of my bday and chinese new years money and gave it to my broker.. 3 years later I bought my first brand new car with cash, the 2000 Civic SE. I'll drive that thing to the ground before I buy another car. 2 years later my friends and I got our motorcycle licenses, and I bought my first bike.. the 89 ZX6 for 3000 bucks.. saved up for a few months and got it.

Next car's going to be AWD, time I'll buy it is when this civic is completely immobile.. so maybe in 6 years or so :D

My first car was a 1986 Toyota Celica GT-S, it was my dads car but since he bought another car, he didnt need the celica so I got it....Then when the engine blew, I saved up a bunch of money from my apprenticeship work and bought a 1987 Toyota Celica GT-S....(RIP).

Got my first car when i was 17 from my parents for graduating high school, it was a 90 honda accord, curbed it, sold it, drive my brother's 94 prelude for a bit, began to hate how weak honda's drove and decided to give nissan a try. With the money I saved from my first REAL job and the accord, I was able to get a 91 240sx that's pretty much in mint condition. Can't wait to SR power it.

I got my first car off my sister for $1 heheh... I dont think I ever actually payed her for it.

But now that I want a new car, and she is moving back home, I will most likely have to get a loan to afford my next car, and I already have to pay for all my repairs, and most of my insurance... and also, if I want to do any mods, those I have to pay for as well.

hand me down when I was 12, my dad seized the engine driving it w/o coolant after doing a head gasket.

a mechanic who saw the car in the back yard asked about it, said he always wanted to work on an aluminium engine (1963 Rambler(yes I am old)) and offered to fix it for $25, paid him from a snow shoveling route I had with a real estate office.

Drove the car through university, sold it to my sister for same use.

bought my jetta after saving for 6 months, blew way too much cash on it, still have it (broken in the garage).

bought my daytona, still had issues with it, parted it out, sold the shell to my buddy, lost a lot of money on it.

bought an omni, stored it for 6 months, tow truck driver totled it and wouldn't return calls, car was only 200 bucks so i said fuck it.

1989 spirit, i found in the pick your part yard, only missing a grille and headlight. bought it, now sitting in my garage waiting to get finished for the winter break in period. recieving all parts that were going on the omni, pluss some extra parts i picked up (mmmm, mack truck intercooler  );)

for my first car, I worked at moxies as a dishwasher for 6 months and got $1200 saved, then then my parents went away for a week, (cuz my dad would never have let it happen, lol ) I went and bought a 86 topaz for $600, and had enough left over for $250 insurance payment, and buy a new starter and battery. my dad hated it so much ( and it puking oil all over the drive way ) that he signed for a lease on a 97 cavalier, I hated it so I got a real job and got a 2000 dodge ram, then the 00 civic I have now. heading towards a 02 white rsx..:D

take note of Jeff's ":) " next time
i dun think he meant any harm. :)
but one less AE86 just drives up that price anyways - just like he pointed out. and one less AE86 = drive up the $ of AE86 products...

You guys are all crazy if you think that this will drive the price up for these cars, one less is not gonna make a difference. The parts from this car were sold to make my buddies ae86 survive its battle with cancer, so my car died to save another. whoa.. sorry dood. no hard feelings

it's basic economics actually that we are pointing out... supply v. demand.
and yes.... prices of AE86s HAVE gone up over the past few years - to the extent where ppl can rape you for upwards of $5k-$8k for a "good" condition one.

the 240SX's are another example; four years ago you could find like a 93 240SX for around $4k-$6k..... now most are priced at above $10k (average-wise)....

just supply and demand. :)

my first veichel (on the road) was a 1987 dodge caravan, man i loved that thing. rusted, no brakes, one headlight, dented fender, no tails, smoked like a chimney, and had a cracked block.
on a ady that was supposed to be just doing the brakes i realized that the front rotorswere only half there. in this i mean the outter ring and even the ventswere ground down to the inner disc. this is truly a site to see. i kept it just for that reason. lol...

and the j-spec STi engines are way nicer than the ej25 they have here
the j-spec STi engine is a 2.0 twin scroll turbo, even tho it puts out 20 horses lesser compared to the ej25 we have here,
im positive a twin turbo set up would have much more potential
and if not, haveing a tt just sounds so cool dunt it?
and the STi doesnt come in san remo red... only the wrx does
in all honesty i love subaru's, infact im fukkin obsessed with them :hitit:
but im just so sick of the typical subaru, blue car gold rims pink emblems...
im just picky...:whipped:

normal WRX doesnt have the DCCD in it , plus it doesnt have 300HP stock , hell who needs a sun roof anyways , its damn cold in Calgary lol , the style of STi is awesome compared to the normal WRX. Also you got your 6 Speed in the STi

Maybe try takeing some out on the dealership for a test run if they will let you drive it. Or if they even have one in stock

ehhh... i dunno about the dccd thing,
its a nice option i guess,
but im sure ppl can live without it.
i think sun roofs are pimp,
actually its cuz i dont like opening windows, cuz the wind that blows in will dry up my eyes
so i roll open the tops

well....i like both, but i dont think i could afford the sti anyways

well....i like both, but i dont think i could afford the sti anyways the "dccd thing" as u so eloquently put it, is a bit more than a nice option man. as far as i know, no other production car has ever had something like that before. its a rally car thing that allows the driver another level of control over the car. so yea, ppl can live without it, but its not as useless as u make it out to be.

and what are u talking about with drying eyeballs and sunroofs and whatnot? dude, are u buying a car to drive or for its comfort? if its the latter, u should really look at something totally different. a wrx is quite the sporting car, and if u are so concerned with being pampered, u should be looking at a buick.

i have yet to own a "new" car... heres the run down...

1981 Chevy Malibu - free from my aunt
1982 Buick Regal - $800
1987 Cutlass Supreme - free from my dad (after he put 280k on it)

... i still have the Cutlass... its now at 305k and im hoping to get it to 400k

but then again... i might not own a cool car... but i do own a house which is a WAY better choice in the long run... i guess im just a cheap bastard... maybe i will spend some money on a car once the mortgage is under control and i have my dream garage built (24x28)... however i just can justify the depreciation

whats DCCD anyways? someone fill me in :D

here goes for me.

firstcar 88 rx7 in pristine shape (bought by my parents because they were moving to a different province and figured with rent and everything I couldn't afford a car and needed one to get to work)

second car was my dad's ford explorer which became my winter beater he couldn't sell it for hwat he bought it for and well it wouldn't make it from new brunswick to alberta so he left it for me.

third car was a 91 integra with 440 000 km's which ran very strong surprisingly which I got free for the explorer when the trnany went.

then I moved ot alberta myself, bought an 86 accord dumped way too much money into it. then when it stalled right in traffic I decided to get soemthing else. and in comes my 96 civic hatch which is the firstcar I ever really wanted to buy and is the only carto actually get modded quite fast. I know i bought the accord but it was such a piece of shit hehehe

dccd isnt sucha big deal in my opinion cuz the wrx's have a similar drivetrain system just that it isnt driver controlled... on the manual transmission models have a viscous-coupling locking center differential. and automatic transmission models have variable torque distribution. the vtd utilizes a planetary center differential in conjunction with an electronically managed continuously variable transfer clutch. WRX models have a viscous limited-slip rear differential. so when ur driving ur STi and u put ur dccd on auto mode, its just like driving a faster WRX. see the difference? not alot preformance wise.

nah i hate cars that are for comfort. but of everything i just like my power sunroofs. other than that id love to strip everything down to bare metal.

on wrx's the driver cant control the center differential, but on the sti the driver can.
but both cars have the center slip differential.:whipped:

...i think it is a burnout gizmo hahahahaha see the reason u dont see the advantage of dccd is cuz:

a. you are 16. yes that is a problem. being that young makes people more likely to be stupid and not know anything.

b. as a result of aforementioned point, u dont know what dccd is and what its for. gawd.

dccd allows u play with power distribution of the awd from front to back. what this means is that u can set it for an optimum power distribution for different conditions (ie ice racing, tarmac, gravel, uphill, downhill, etc). on the lower models, u cant adjust it at all cuz its entirely computer controlled.

why do u think ppl like manual trannies vs. auto trannies? cuz its allows u more control over the car!

Not even CLOSE. You could not be more wrong :)

I traded my 03 WRX for the STi, I can tell you first hand the 2 cars have next to nothing in common at all.

As Jeff said, the primary use of the DCCD is adjust for driving conditions. For example, when you take a hairpin turn on tarmac at a very high speed on the WRX, you will suffer from understeer. The STi in auto-mode will be slightly biased towards understeer as well. Move the DCCD towards the back a bit more, and your ass end will start to straighten out. An experienced driver very familiar with their car will be able to use that flexibility to compensate for oversteer/understeer problems which vary alot depending on the terrain.

The difference between the 2 cars is nothing close to just .5 more litres and a DCCD. The drivetrain is completely different. Variable valve timing, which is an incredible improvement, throttle response and fuel optimization are very slick, THREE LSDs, and it is actually a cam type LSD, very different from the WRX. The brake upgrade alone will set you back about 5k, the huge brembo 4 piston fronts and 2 piston rears are only used by ferrari and porsche as far as I know (I could be wrong though), the difference in suspension is night and day...the sti is closer to a rally-grade (inverted struts VS mcpherson-style)...no body roll in the sti like the wrx, you also have the forged aluminum BBS's, which cost a pretty penny, with amazing tires to match. Quicker steering rack as well. Dont forget the STi 6MT, a very strong transmission...double-cone on all gears except triple cone on 2nd (bye bye "thud"), did you know WRX tuners are blowing their trannies regularly when they start to get close to the 300-320bhp mark? When tranny jobs cost more than a new engine, its a bit discouraging to take the WRX very far in terms of power.

What else...drive-by-wire throttle control, increasing responsiveness and giving you a much smoother ride, electronic throttle control is alot nicer.

The engine is actually an EJ257, which is a semi-open deck as opposed to the EJ25.

Theres probably more that I am forgetting, and Im starting to sound like a subaru salesman, but point is, its a totally different beast, and before making a purchase like that you should probably do a bit more research :)

shit ppl have time to adjust little dials while doing hairpins? lol
i alrdy mess up on downshifting, handbraking, and countersteering
i have yet to reach that skill of driving
thanx for the info googe
but i thot we were only talking about the difference in center differentials on the two cars?
not the whole cars

maybe they just ignore the kids haha
