So we can see that maximum drama will occur if Webber-Vettel come 1-2 (in that order) and both Brawns finish out of the points for the next two races.

Button and Vettel will tie for points (but Button will still win), Webber will beat Barrichello by half a point for 3rd and RBR will beat Brawn by half a point for the WCC.

The fight for 3rd in the WCC is pretty much between Ferrari and McLaren with Glock out for Toyota but you never know what could happen. The 2 points that separate Ferrari and McLaren also separate Kimi and Lewis for 5th place in the WDC.

I wonder how much the Arabs have been paying Brawn to sandbag it until the end, so that the Championship happens at their new track?

66 min: Fisichella has stalled his Ferrari after a failed attempt at a practice start.

66 min: The Italian is stranded at the end of the pit exit road and is climbing out of the Ferrari.

EDIT: And with less than 2 minutes left Barrichello and Alonso come out of nowhere!

Grosjean gets purple S1! WTF Renault?

New sponsors on Brawn! Doesn't seem worth it with only 2 races left.

rage2
10-17-2009, 11:10 AM
It's probably only $100k/race, so well worth it.

I believe Branson only paid $75k/race for Virgin branding the first few races when Brawn dominated. That and all the commentary coverage of Branson made it a smokin' deal.

Anyone see those safety cars get sideways? Fucking love those Benz's!

he's got a better time than Hamilton right now

Mibz
10-17-2009, 11:30 AM
Okay, so let's imagine that Williams is high downforce and McLaren is low downforce and it DOESN'T rain tomorrow. Is the difference in performance really going to be enough for McLaren to make their way up the grid and make passes? I don't know why they wouldn't just qualify well and use KERS to hold people off as best they can.

buh_buh
10-17-2009, 11:31 AM
all these dry and wet setups and a track that actually allows for passing will make the picks interesting for this week

Mibz
10-17-2009, 11:31 AM
FUCK Ham's off.

buh_buh
10-17-2009, 11:32 AM
well, in Schumi's last race he went from 19th to 4th, and that was a completely dry race with everyone on the same setup, so I think its definitely possible to move up the grid here.

Mibz
10-17-2009, 11:32 AM
McLaren gives up....

rage2
10-17-2009, 11:33 AM
A full dry setup vs a full wet setup in the dry's going to be a difference of something like 3-4 seconds a lap.

A2VR6
10-17-2009, 11:34 AM
wow vettel and ham have their work cut out for them tommorow...

rage2
10-17-2009, 11:38 AM
Well if it DOES become a dry race, Vettel's got a chance. Only problem is, it's still questionable what tomorrow's weather is going to be. If it rains, the teams gambling on a wet setup is going to own.

So, some looking to next year, with no refuelling, we're going to get the same situation as we're going to see here (albeit less dramatic). Teams can tweak for a low fuel setup to get pole but sacrafice (heavy) race pace, or tweak for a high fuel setup, qualify bad, but make up places at the start of the race. Since most of the race is run heavy with no refuelling, it'll make setup choices very interesting.

buh_buh
10-17-2009, 11:39 AM
any confirmations on whose on wet and dry setups?

Mibz
10-17-2009, 11:39 AM
I wonder if Kubica and Heidfeld were on different setups.

10-17-2009, 11:42 AM
What is this wooden plank they're talking about?

buh_buh
10-17-2009, 11:45 AM
the wooden planks that run down the middle of bottom of all the cars so they don't bottom out on the actual car. It usually wears down throughout the race, but it has to be a minimum height. I think it also has to do with limiting downforce.

A2VR6
10-17-2009, 11:47 AM
Here a good look at the plank on the bottom:

http://assets.espn.go.com/photo/2007/1029/rpm_g_kubica_crash_600.jpg

Mibz
10-17-2009, 11:49 AM
So when we see sparks in Singapore is it because the wood is worn off or because it doesn't extend all the way back and something behind it is bottoming out as well?

Why do they use wood instead of something lighter?

Does it have to be minimum height at the -end- of the race?

buh_buh
10-17-2009, 11:54 AM
the plank has to be a minimum height, or the car is DSQ'd. Its F1, I'm sure its some sort of lightweight composite material.

Acutally I dont think they're wood anymore... I believe its some kind of composite material they use.

Basically the plank is 10mm thick by the rules and if it wears down to less than 9 mm during the course of a race your DQ'd.

The Ferrari must be really hard to drive.

If Kamui Kobayashi can get reasonably close to Trulli, why cant Fisichella or Badoer touch Kimi ??

This has been one of the best year's for races being unpredictable, but today is going to top that. How many cars will even make it to the finish? Good thing that Benz safety car sounds so good, because I think we'll be hearing a lot of it!

They say Fisi accidentally hit the Engine Cutoff Button (red arrow). It's been a challenge getting used to the Ferrari steering wheel after moving from Force India.
