Feels like i'm underwater 24/7, n its a real bitch. Doctor recommended sinus surgery. Got it booked for Feb next year and is being performed by Dr. j. Bocsh. Just wanted to see if anyone has gotten it done and if it helps.

I was about to, with my recurring sinus infections (4-5 per year).

I went to see a nose-ear-throat specialist who recommended a nasal rinse procedure. If that didnt help, then try surgery.

A year and a half later, I still have yet to get an infection - it really works. (Neil Med - you can get it behind the counter at Super Store, etc.)

Otherwise, reparing my deviated septum wouldve been a short, somewhat uncomfortable recovery time.

yes it's the same thing I did to avoid surgery. Neil Med is great, they have both a neti pot and a large volume low positive pressure nasal wash, I have both and they are terrific.

I found the neti-pot gave me only partial relief, and that I needed to also use Omnaris daily. I'm hoping to get my septoplasty sometime this spring.

Yeah those rinse pots seem to only give relief for literally 10 minutes. I hate that it gives great relief then it all comes back and im back where i started
What about nasonex? Anyone have success with that?

In regards to the Nasonex comment, about a month ago i started a prescription of Nasonex, twice a day. I have chronic Sinusitis (I think thats right?, Inflammation of the sinus's etc, as it was explained to me)., and a deviated septum. This has lead to me having constant congestion in the past 8 years of my life? at least? Well, i started using the nasonex, and i blow my nose twice a day now, once before each dosage.. other then that i can finally breath through my nose, and i dont feel like its constricted.

For me it works, i dont know of any other solutions myself, as this is something i just decided to start treating, ideally i would rather not take anything, but at the same time i like breathing.

Ditto, once the winter months hits, it's runny nose constantly. Rinsing only helps 10-15 mins :(

I've got to book mine too, the only problem is you are useless for a week after and it takes two weeks to feel completley better. I've been using Otrivin and that's the only thing that allows me to breathe. Pretty nasty shit though.

Hopefully it works for you.

My cousin and her husband recently got it done and both said that the recovery was VERY painful and it didn't really work for her at all.

Wow I didn't know that many people had the same problem, I've had my nose congested for as long as I remember, I remember I used to be able to play 4-6hours of basketball as a kid but I can hardly manage half an hour nowadays, and it interrupts my workouts as well. Nasonex and all those nasal sprays do nothing for me it feels like some sticky goo is stuck inside my nose.

Question: Is it normal for the congestion to switch nostrils?

I notice that for a week my left side is congested then it switches to the right, and it just keeps doing that???

Not sure if this is related but, my dad always had troubles breathing and was always congested when sleeping so the doctor checks it out and he tells him that polyps were blocking his nasal cavity, so he recommended removal. After surgery he seems to be breathing a lot better now, no more snoring, but during recovery time, he had to breathe in salt water through his nose which often caused him to throw up. Short term seems brutal, but for long term it is worth it.

I suggest you look at this procedure before doing the surgery. I know a lot of people who have had that surgery and still suffer.

Have a look at this.

I also suggest taking an allergy/sinus pill every day for a month to see how it effects you.

A lot of people don't understand that allergy pills don't work immediately, it takes time for the medicine to work, you must take it everyday for at least a couple weeks.

haha shiet. don't use otrivin more than 72 hrs. causes rebound nasal congestion. makes it worse.

turbinate coblation is pretty gimmicky - only works if the turbs themselves are hypertrophied. doesnt do anything for polyposis etc. FESS (functional endoscopic sinus surgery) is often the definitive treatment.

steroids needs to be used for 6-8 weeks minimum to work.

unfortunately a difficult condition to treat.

Tell me about it. I don't find anything else works, I really need alternatives. I've stopped using it for days but my sinuses become SO inflamed my head hurts.

This surgery doesn't sound so great now

Crazy old thread bump, but I'm going for the septoplasty next week. Will report on results.
Been using the sinus rinse and Omnaris for the last couple months, with minor improvement.

i've just developed nasal problems in the last couple years. Get sinus infections that cause a sore throat and cough.

I will try some of that Neil Med, what is it like to use?

I wouldnt call it pleasant....but you get used to it.

Doing it someplace like in the shower allows you to try different head angles to get the water in all the "wrong" feeling places.... without fear of getting wet...haha

Another thing, I picked up a daily use nasal moisturizer for the office since the humidity is typically around 15% (which is retarded).....its helped as well.

I got the surgery done about 2 months ago, recovery was not bad at all except the wicked morphene hangover haha
2 days after the surgery I was feeling great with minimal bleeding, but I took a week and a half off from work because I do a lot of heavy lifting.

If you can take a week off you should definetly get it done, it feels amazing to be able to breathe out of my nose again lol

My left nostril is always plugged thanks to a deviated septum. I have considered straight up rhinoplasty to get my whole nose fixed to help this problem. I got a weird, burly hardly noticble crook in my nose.

Anyone had the rhinoplasty done before that has had similar nasal problems?

Its been almost 4 months since I've had the surgery and it did shit all. The first week i had spiderman hearing and nasty boogers, then it started to diminish to what it was before.
It turns out i have a patulous eustachian tube, a eustachian tube that wont close when your slightly dehydrated. The biggest bitch ever. When ever i talk, it feels like air rushes into my ears and its deafening.
The only remedy i find that works is to constantly drink water and keep "over hydrated". Anyone have this problem?

Oddly enough, I get that sometimes during interval workouts... and rarely otherwise.... good to know what it is!

Get a referral to an ENT. This isn't like a dentist where you can walk into any office you want.

I had "septoplasty and turbinate cautery" today. So far, pain is less than anticipated.

I've been having problems for the last 4 -5 years and its steadily been getting worse. I went to a ear nose and throat specialist a couple months ago and found I have a (really) deviated septum from getting punched at a concert just after high school. Apparently it blocks drainage in my nose, which causes pressure and infections.
I'm booked for surgery July 20th, I really hope it works. I'm ready to give up my sense of smell at this point if thats what it took haha.

In the meantime, I've had a lot of success using a combination of a sinus flush every second day (every day dried my nose out), and Avasys. Avasys is the only nasal spray that has worked for more than a couple weeks for me, and I've tried almost every one on the market. I highly recommend giving it a try if you haven't.

my gf has a dev. spetum and just saw a specialist, apparently she will be getting surgery in November. I was wondering what the recovery was like and the results.
Has anyone heard on Dr. Shandro?

I'll give you some info on my recovery experience as it happens. So far, the first 12 hours have been pretty good. Waiting to see if I can sleep.

A friend of mine just had a procedure done by Dr. Shandro.

My mother is a Dr. and she recommended my friend see Dr. Shandro. He is the preeminent ENT in Calgary.
