Is there any kind of filler that can be used on a metal exterior door to fill in dents. I want to fix my mom's main entry door but don't want to replace the door. I just want to ensure the material used for filling and sanding isn't going to crack in the winter months.

If it's a metal door, use autobody filler. Same principle as fixing a dent in a car... sand down to the metal, fill in thin layers, sand smooth, prime & paint.

Should hold up reasonably well.

Fiberglass Doors FTW!

I heard the suction-cup meathod works well too.

Exactly.
I'd recommend pulling off the door and doing this inside (in a ventilated space). It's getting a bit cold/damp for things to dry properly outside.

if its a dent why would you fill it? don't you pop it out? doesn't that make more sense?

pay Tomco to pull it out if it's not too thick of metal, i'm sure he can do something or suggest.
