hehe got rid of 'em. Better? Are you on dialup? Shaw cheap/slow service? What kinda CPU are you using? Curious how fast of a CPU and inet speed you need to get that to display fast.

I'm not noticing any sort of issue with the site at all.

Did you guys actually like that quick reply smiley feature? We used to have it and I removed it for some reason... can't remember.

Same here, I rarely go into "post reply" I generally always use the quick reply. I've had to learn the commands for the smiles and I have to type them in manually...having the menu right there would be nice though :)

Well let me enable it again, if someone complains, then I'll try to work with them individually.

sin didn't give me enough details as to what was actually causing him to lag.

Would it be possible to add attachments using quick reply?

rage2

Technically yes, but it won't be done because well, use the REPLY function for that. Attachments aren't used enough to require it in quick reply.

At work I just got a new Dell P4 with 512 ram. However, it's an onboard shitty video card. When GTSJeff had the 6 animated Star Wars kids in his sig, it was enough to almost freeze this computer. (I pm'ed him and he was nice enough to remove it).

So, I would venture to say that the only way to "lag" a pc reading a forum is with the really large animated gifs. And sorry rage, but yours is pretty big (but at least the actual graphics are not complex).

For what it's worth, I haven't noticed any lag with this comp since then.

Yeah but you can change your preferences to not see the sigs and avitars and stuff so it's an easily fixable problem :)

Sure - and not surfing forums is another solution. But really, how does having some 2 meg animated sig of your dog taking a shit really improve the forums? Especially when the other 95% of the people have reasonable usable sigs?

I do agree that if even the animated smileys are killing you, it's time for a new PC. :D

There is a 50k file size limit on sig images.. I do try to weed them out every chance I get. If you do notice any huge animated sig. PM one of us and we'll be happy to delete them.

Sounds reasonable to me. Funny how it bugs me, since I have corp dsl at home and 10 meg fiber at work. I think it's just the principle of wasting bandwidth. :D

Well most of the images (sigs, avatars) are cached, so it really doesn't waste bandwidth (other than the GET requests to check for updated images).
