Just wondering if I was to buy a car from BC and bring it here, are there any extra inspections or anything else that I have to do?
Basically what I am looking at is originally from the States but registered in BC and all that. Now what I am wondering is, if I were to bring it here would I have to do anything else with it (any other inspections or whatever) before I can register it here in Calgary

Ic and how are you able to drive it to the oop inspection place without having it registered first? Are you able to drive it a little bit temporarily or anything at all?

When I bought my car in Alberta and got it insured in BC, I spent the $150 on OOP inspection and got a one day temp tag from the Alberta DMV and ICBC (I spent time on the highway between Alberta and BC, and had my full registration done in BC after the inspection). I also needed my bill of sale to register it.

Beware of the costs of bringing in a OOP vehicle - the amount required to make a vehicle "legal" in AB can be surprising especially if the vehicle has been neglected, is older, or has been modified.

you get an in transit permit I believe from the registry or ICBC if you get a change in BC

The dealer said the car is in mint condition and has passed the 143 BCAA point inspection, among other mechanical inspections and everything. I am getting them to fax all the documentation to me today. I am guessing it won't be hard for it to pass the inspection here?

^ what year, make model and mileage?

If it passed the BCAA inspection (which I've used - very good techs), chances are good that it will get through an OOP with minimal headaches.

If it just went through the "dealer" inspection... not so much!

your insurance company or registry, whomever it may be, can provide you with a temperary 7-day "In Transit" permit, just stick it on your windshield and drive it back. Bring it to get the OOP done while you have your in-transit permit. that's what I did last year.

if you're getting the car shipped, get it when it arrives so you can at least drive it from point a to b for the OOP inspection.

if you're driving the car back, and will need to go pick it up, the registry can post-date your in-transit permit to start when you actually pick up the car, just give them a date so you don't get screwed.
