I've been running Mobil 1 5W-30 myself, awesome oil

If it's good enough for factory fill for a Corvette, it's good enough for our cars :)

dont bother listing your Weights of oil, its different with every car, in the summer I run Mobil1 20W50 in my carand winter I run 5W30

It may not be such a good idea for him to switch to synthetic if the car's been using regular oil the whole time.
I say just use any regular oil will be just fine.

True any regular oil is fine, but synthetic will preserve the life of any engine since the synthetic additives in synthetic oil lowers the friction co-efficient.

yea on a random old engine just use cheap stuff like motomaster.

Yeah, if you have been running mineral base oil since 95, just stick with it.

I recommend Honda Genuine if you want the best mineral oil for your Integra, and Honda Genuine oil filter of course.

The synthetic molecules are also much finer and can get by rings and seals in the moter after being driven on petro-based oils. I think if the car has high milage, don't bother.

5W30 Mobil 1 year round for your engine

I always switch my cars to syn. whatever the milage.

can somebody explain differences of 10w30, 5w30, 20w30. sorry im not an oil king or anything, just need a lil enligtenment :D (and yes im smart enough to not mix it up every single oil change lol)

it's the api weight of the oil... the higher the # the "thicker" the oil...

first # is cold, second is hot. it is more complicated than that, but i am too lazy to type.

Don't they have "high mileage" formula synthetic as well? :dunno:

Here is my explaination... the "W" means it is good for winter use. The first #, take 10W30 for example means it will be 10 viscosity rating when cold. The second # means it will be 30 viscosity rating when hot. Of course, the lower the number, the thinner the oil (less resistance to flow).

does it matter what oil you use really? (as long as its consistent of course)

Yes some engines need much better oil than the bulk oil used at drive through lube shops and dealerships.

check this article from a automotive trade magazine, refers to a lawsuit by Benz owners because dealers used API approved oil which did not meet the higher euro spec oil required by Benz.
