Looking at purchasing a subwoofer but don't know what Impedance is? Can someone explain what I should be looking for?

I see 2+2 ohms or 4+4 ohms.

I'm only looking at setting up a 12" Single Subwoofer in a ported box with 500 watt mono amplifier.

Your 500 watt amplifier will more than likely be 500 watts @ 2 ohms.
This means you`ll want a subwoofer that creates a 2 ohm load. This will be either a straight up 2 ohm subwoofer or a dual 4 ohm subwoofer.
I could get more into it, but its not needed for what you need to know.

Of course this means you`re getting all you can out of your amp. You dont NEED a subwoofer that handles 500 watts RMS that your amp is putting out. 500 watts is a fair amount and people dont realize that. It all depends on what you listen to.

If your amp is 500 watts @ 2 ohms its also probably rated somewhere around 350 or so @ 4 ohms. So if you`re looking at subwoofers that are around 300 rms, get dual 2 so it will create a 4 ohm load.

Wow is your question ever vague. Can you explain which amp you're running or any other info? Your post leaves so many varibles its quite hard to even try to properly answer it.
