Does anyone know of a good sticky substance to put on your shoes on a gym floor besides apple juice and alcohol for better traction?

Thanks!

Sweat from your palms. Just rub em down every few minutes.

How about semen instead?

I was being serious. You exercise, your palms get sweaty. Apparently, you'd rather get a gym floor nasty as fuck by using juice & alcohol. How considerate of you.

Dude, hair spray. That is what I used growing up playing lacrosse, works like a charm.

Not everyone sweats that much.

We would go through a can or two a game sometimes, so we just bought the cheapest ones possible.

How much was that typically?

Honestly if you have good indoor gym shoes, they'll stick to the floor really well if they and the floor are clean. Volleyball shoes are great for this. Some basketball shoes are good, some are terrible.

Sweep the floor and wash your shoes before every game and practice. It'll stick. I've used hairspray, and it does provide more traction, but it wears off pretty quick and I'm sure it leaves a mess on the floor.

^^ Sweeping the floor real quick helps a lot. Also keep a damp towel on the side and give your shoes a quick wipe if they get dirty. You can also moisten your laces a bit and wipe your soles on the spot. But the downside to that is that your shoes get dirty faster that way unless they are dark colored or you just don't care.

Yeah, good note about the damp towel. Just step on it a couple times during the game it it'll pull the lint and dust off your soles.

Every basketball player since the beginning of time has done this.:dunno:

Hairspray is a temporary fix, works great for about 10 minutes. The problem is everything on the floor (dust) sticks to the bottom of your shoes, eventually you are worse off then when you started.

It's not your sweat that's making a difference. You're rubbing off the dust that's transferring from the floor to the bottom of your shoe.

I'll just stick with the damp cloth but it's only temporary as it will get dirty again. Sweeping the gym floor is not an option.

Personally, I just spit on the floor and drag my feet on it a few times. Worked for me.

Yup. Its like a pair of really sticky tires. Drive around on them and they get covered in dust and pebbles, hurting the grip.

This is weird, I never heard of this before. So people wearing sneakers in a gym do things to make their sneakers stick better?

For indoor soccer, traction helps because it gets pretty slippery.

i used to just wipe off dust/debris on my palms of my hands. sometimes spitting on the floor or pouring a bit of water out of the bottle then stepping it works too haha.

I play team handball, and everyone who plays that pretty much:

1) Steps/Drags their shoes on a damp towel before heading onto the court

2) While on the court, wipe off the soles of your shoes on the inside of your calves. The sweat from your skin makes a big difference, and that way you don't have to get dusty hands. Obviously this is important for handball players, and I'm kind of surprised basketball players use their hands.

Anyways just my $0.02

spit works. WHen I played indoor soccer I used shoes with gum rubber and never had a problem with slipping.
