Hello I am 16 years old and am looking at buying this car. I have test drove it. It work great. everything seemed to be working functionaly. Is there anything bad about buying a car that has a rebuilt title.

If i was going to buy this car I would defenalty take it for an inspection before i would make my final decision. any other tips.

Your resale value is completely shot because most people won't buy a salvage vehicle. Something to consider when/if you ever decide to sell it.

Why was it written off?

id say if the price is right, go for it

sure your resale will not be as great but if you are getting it for cheaper then normal already then that makes up for it when you go to sell it....also for a vehicle to get re-certified it must go trough a pretty tough inspection (depending on the inspection facility ofcoarse)...all in all i dont see anything wrong with re-certified cars if the price is right :dunno:

Depends on why it was salvaged. Sometimes it can be for something minor like theft recovery.

werd

but if you want it. Go for it its all your decision but keep in mind that a you'll never be able to sell for the same amount as other cars that aren't salvaged or rebuilt

It depends on the amount of damage the car had, most cars older than say 2001 dont need much damage to be written off,i have a car right now i bought through a insurance company(a 1999 i bought for a winter car) that needs one headlamp,a grill, and some paint on the front bumper,by the time you add that the shop is going to buy a NEW headlamp, grill, and bumper, than th labour on top of that it could cost 3-4,000 thousand, then add the cost of a rental car for the client while all this is getting fixed and you can see why it would be a esay choice for the insurance co to salvage the car.

After the car is repaired it must pass a thorough mechanical, frame, and body inspection. So if resale does not matter too much to you and the savings in buying that car over the same car with a clean title is significant then go for it.I would however ask the seller for the "before" pictures of the car,he must have them because its part of the inspection, that way you can see what was damaged before the repair.

Good luck

So what would be the right price for a 2004 nissan sentra 1.8s with 112 000km. does 4000 sound around right or would you ask for a lower price.

If the guy didnt mention that the car was salvaged would you be woried. He only told me that the car was in an accident after I asked for the vin number.

thanks for the very helpful post guys

He should have told you right away thet the car was salvage, sounds seedy that he only told you after you asked for the vin.Ask for the inspection papers.

The price sounds reasonable, you will try to get a better deal anyhow.;)

Price sounds good but ask yourself what your plans are with the car. If you drive it to the ground then who cares if it has a salvage title or not however if you plan to resell it in a few years then you'll be lucky to get 1/2 what you paid for it.

Maybe give the guys at Option Import a call.... pretty sure I've seen some cars getting inspected there.

Should be able to tell how extensive the damage was once its up on a lift.

PM the vin if you want and I'll run a carfax report for you.

wow, how funny is that. A few years back in high school this guy I knew bought a sentra that had just been written off, and fixed... err, 'fixed' it. Looked great from the curb but there was rippling and shit underneath in the body, the hood had been pushed into the windshield and cracked it.. so the guy stuck an AMA sticker over the crack to hide it for inspection.. just some super sketchy shit, I cant believe it passed its inspection. Then we took it for a drive and it was when he was doing 150 down elbow and almost clipped a cyclist that I decided I didnt want to have anything to do with the guy. :guns:

That sentra looked the same as that one there, actually. I wonder if it is.

That carfax is bad. Has 4 reported accidents with the final one having $7700 worth of damage.

Run.

Heed the above advice. There are lots of decent cars you can get for $4k that have not had a single accident.

just wondering why you felt the need to make 2 threads, asking for the same advice, on the same car?
