So I have a few questions, I just got rear ended tonight.

I already started the insurance claim process but i had some questions.

I'm praying my car will be a write-off but I won't know that till I go to a shop. It is a older car and im not sure if its worth fixing. Or will they just pay me out and how much the shop says it will cost to fix and than i decide not to fix the car at all?

do different shops really matter? ie price wise ?

the insurance agent that i started my claim with mentioned that i should go to one of their approved shops to get the appraisal done or i could bring it to my own shop and than they would have to send it to one of their own appraisers to the shop i took it too.

What should I do?

what would you do?

My neck and upper back is hurting right now....should i go to the doctor tonight? The insurance agent said he mentioned it in the claim already. He also mentioned its probably goin to get worse????

attached is some pics, I apologize in advance for the shitty blackberry pics and sorry for all the questions i just don't want to get jacked around since i know nothing about this process

fyi its a 97 Audi A4 quattro

typically you want to get to a doctor within 24 hours so they don't pull some crap on you at insurance, during my last accident I got hit at 4:30pm on the way home from school on a Friday and was at the doctors office before 6pm, then police report the next monring at 9am and it went quickly. As well the pain will typically get worse as your muscles tighten up, if doctor feel damage is there he will refer you to physio, then from there insurance claim adjustor (sp?) will contact you about which places to go to that they are active with

If you were hoping to have it written off I would suggest a hire end auto body for example contemporary coachworks (which does great work) as they seem to charge a premium over others for their good services. This happened to my brother 02 A4 and the repairs from that shop in terms of aesthetics was very large and in turn his car was written off.

hope that helps a bit

Soft tissue damage = hard to prove

Its not like the heydays when people would get thousands of dollars for whiplash, thing have changed thank god.

There is a possibility it could be a write off because the insurance company will give you near to nothing for it. Honestly if I was you I would hope against it being written off just for that reason. No matter what your insurance company will undervalue it and will have it inspected by their own people.

go to the doctor ASAP, so you have it on record

As for the car, it really dont look like to much damage. But i think a write off is when the damage exceeds the value of that car? that said the 97 A4 on Kijiji is going for around 5000-7000$$ so you would need to have that much in damage to call a write off..

It looks to me like a Trunk, bumper cover, and the under lid lip thingy.. i dunno, by pictures it dont look like to much but it depends on the bumper itself and so on..

Good luck with your claim n whatnot..

BTW Audi's Rock and better yet its got Quattro... sheesh i wouldent want to get rid of it before winter...

yeah damage doesnt look like much to me either.

the issue is that it has a lot of kms 283xxx km

blackbook is about 3.5 k

ill try and go see a doctor tomorrow during work.

its not that i want to sue him im just worried about the pain, my moms back and neck still hurts from her being rear ended over 7 years ago.

maybe just a respray won't be bad.

if they decide to write off my car does insurance just throw a value at me?

the trunk doesn't close and hopefully theres no frame damage

should i just call contemporary and ask to make an appointment and than my insurance will make sure one of their appraisers are there?

well go to contemporary, you have to pay $25 for them to quote your car, (insurance reimburses you) and then they will tell you what the damage is, maybe get another quote or two (See what others say), then show the ones you want to insurance company. It usually takes the appraiser a couple days to get to your car, he will then look at it, and assess its value, in my brothers case he had a quote for 14grand on his audi from contemp, value from appraiser was 17.8, in turn write off...

If you want to argue it you have to have proof that its worth more. Find comparable to your model in calgary on kijiji and autotrader. This is what the insurance company does too and then they take the average of say 5 they find like yours.

If you want to argue do the same and see what your average is. Their goal is to give you the same amount of money it would take for you to go and buy a same model same milage car.

Also if you have receits for recent maintanence they will also take that into account.

6 GRAND to fix that? Sheesh!

Any story of what/who/car hit you?

I had an accident once, my car had 240K on the clock, 2000 323i, (there is a thread and pics and stuff)... 13K damage and it was repaired for some stupid reason. (Worth only 16-20MAX) They valued it high. Knowing what I know now, I should have argued more for it being written off.

Fight man and DONT let them push you around. GL.

yeah 6 Grand...i couldn't believe it myself.

the story of the person that hit me.

older guy looked like a trades person driving a jeep liberty, rear ends me at when i was stopped at a light.

first i got out and he just sat in his car looking like he didn't know wtf was going on.

he came out and started mumbling at me stumbling everywhere.

i started to move his car and i moved my car, it took him 10 minutes just to park his damn car....

i asked him for his insurance and he just sat there honestly looked fucked outta his tree. A person walking buy informed me that i should call the police, so i did and it turns out the other drive was extremely diabetic. And when it get that bad it shows symptoms of being drunk and sometimes even smells like liqour.

honestly i thought he was drunk too, he was coherant at all.

like it was just weird to see i felt bad for the guy. (reason why i did not want to sue him) i feel fine now by the way.

I was in the same boat as OP, Rear ended by a truck. Contemporary quoted 6000 in damage, insurance sent them a quote back for 4000 and they decided to fix it  The guy at contemporary said it was most likely going to be written off, dont know why they didn't write it off  It's a 98 Accord with 195k. I opted to take the cash pay out for $4000 - 25% and get it fixed somewhere else.

I rear-ended a 1989 Audi '90 that had similar damage, if not less, but the problem was the rear had bent so that the trunk wouldn't close. I believe the persons quote was around $3000. Just my 2 cents on a rear end repair cost.
