What would be a reasonable cost to ship a car, by transport, from Ontario to Alberta? :dunno:

Please tell us you're not buying an Ontario/Quebec car because they're less expensive.

Nope you won't tell us? Ha. Try calling some trucking companies and see if you can get it brought on a backhaul and save some money. I'd imagine Hansens will run you aroun 800-1000.

I'll ask a co-worker at work, hes a salesguy as a Nissan dealer and bought a car and shipped it out to his sister in Quebec using McGill Transport, I'll ask him how much

Is driving back yourself an option? In a V8, 6.0L truck, it's about $600 gas, 2 nights hotel for a reasonable 3 day drive.

Used Hansens to ship from Toronto to Calgary. Was about $1000.

I used Hansen's Calgary - Toronto. Got a bit better deal on the price since I dropped it off and picked it up myself. Ended up being about $750. That was 3 years ago.

If you have someone over there helping you load the car, I'd say about $400-500 train freight, given you're using a 20ft container to transport the vehicle in.

Perhaps some car carrier (already on its way here) has an unused spot for you, and can take your vehicle over here, that too would cost you $300-600.

I'd check into both. Driving it back yourself as Tom mentioned may also be a wise idea. :dunno:

I just shipped a car with searail from Halifax to Calgary for $1300. I think its around $700-800 from Toronto with them.

If its older than 15 years get your own insurance because searail will only cover a total loss.

Step 1: Get off your ass and get the yellowpages
Step 2: Look under auto transport
Step 3: Call 2-3 of those shipping companies get quotes for each.

Had done that route by driving from BC to Alberta - cost was $150 gas and one way airfare going to BC to pick up the vechile for heading home. Cheaper that way.

Did a second time from Washington state the same thing - just that gas cost was about $250 plus 2 days time driving + overnight sleeping.

Why would I want to hire a transport when I can have more fun driving in a new car thru beautiful country roads all over? :D

Just sent off my mini to Toronto last week.
We dropped off at Hansens yard but they are taking the car to the dealer for us (lease-takeover), so all in all $1031 GST and Fuel surcharges incl.

After dealing with Hansens, I am very happy so far, especially after reading about Searail on this board.

I would imagine you'd be very close in that ball park.

I remember reading about searail - they tell you to remove everything from the car and leave it unlocked because it will get ransacked in their yards, but as long as there's nothing of value in it, your car will be okay. Yea, great business plan :o

I work @ CP Rail and we use Hansens (customer of ours) they are the only ones to deal with. They could truck it or rail it. (rail would be cheaper but slower) If Paul in Toronto still works there talk to him and mention my name (Joel) maybe he'll give you a deal. :dunno:

So much for Hansens - I called them but they won't take a car that has <4'' ground clearance.

At this rate i may end up having to rent a truck/hauler and go out east myself......that can't be cheap

Google search what people say about searail - lots are unmonitored and basically everything's in the open. Your car will be broken into, but as long as there's nothing in it, they leave it alone.
